  1. It's more like 1/3 of his MiLB games at C. 114 of 324. I left out 3 pitcher appearances. You might have included his time in college, when he.was primarily a C. He actually hasn't been a regular at pretty much ANY position in MiLB. Mostly a 1st baseman, but not an every day player. Something of a spare part. I'd be surprised if he gets any regular time at C for the Twins in 2025. I'd be surprised if he gets any extended time at all with the Twins.
  2. Ty France is on first And as spring turns to summer It will then be Who
  3. I don't understand the hype here. I guess if the staff feels there's hidden potential here, ok. Try to work out a trade. But this seems to me much ado about nothing, and they sure as heck shouldn't try to carry him on the roster all season unless he's somehow ready to assume that the role of contributing member. And that seems to me pretty optimistic.
  4. And this is why I'd be surprised if Castellano makes the team, and why he shouldn't. Can't carry someone not ready to contribute.
  5. Lavagetto Gilchrist? Never heard of him.
  6. Concur. Berenguer
  7. Interesting piece of trivia: Genesis is actually about baseball. "In the big inning..." Which, of course, brings us full circle back to Randy Dobnak.
  8. This thread isn't just "strange." I think it's the strangest in TD history. And I've been here since the beginning.
  9. That's not a braided necklace. Braided mustache.
  10. No. All trading Vazquez to the Mets will accomplish is changing the title of the thread to "The Twins Need A Catcher."
  11. I think there might be a misunderstanding here. I think maybe you're speaking of the Twins trading Castellano to another organization. In which case, see your post. Working out a trade with the Phillies (the losing org) doesn't require waivers.
  12. If anyone wants a good guess, Joe Nathan is available. Wrong, I believe, but a good guess. Proper uniform. Black glove. RH pitcher.
  13. With all due respect, doc, Nonconcur. Teams have always carried a utility guy or two. Sure. But... Teams have never featured multiple position-less players. Before this regime, the Twins have never sent prospect after prospect through the minors without them learning a position. Such that a couple years after arriving in the show, they have an entire infield, with 6 or .so guys, and exactly ONE set position...SS. One guy who knows what the heck he's doing, and that guy didn't come through the Twins system. We don't even know who's going to play 2nd, or 1st, and we're a couple weeks from opening day. We know who's at 3rd...maybe. For a month at least. And that's not because he's a trained 3rd baseman, but because he's gotta play SOMEwhere and he apparently balked at playing 2nd. All of this is new. Part of it i write off to 13 man pitching staffs, but largely it's a decision. They don't decide "Joe's a 3rd baseman, let's make sure he can play that position when he gets to Minnesota, and then let's PLAY HIM THERE when he does." No, it's "hey, why not 2nd base? No, ok 3rd base. No...center field." And then wonder why the defense is poor.
  14. Castellano first needs to clear waivers before being returned to Philly. Any claiming team would need to put him on the 40 man and meet the season long rule 5 requirements to keep him, same as the Twins would. If he clears waivers, Philly can get him back for $50k. He does not need to be placed on the 40 man. Hes then in the same position as other minor leaguers not on a 40 man.
  15. "Anybody can play anywhere." It's a Twins core value.
  16. I SO want to like Julien. But he makes it SO hard.
  17. I hope Brock Stewart isn't the key to anything. He's reached 30 IP once in his career. Once, 8 years ago. And outside of a short stretch in 2023, has been thoroughly unremarkable. Below average, even.
  18. To repeat: there is no such thing as a low leverage reliever. If the Twins braintrust thinks Castellano can be an effective MLB reliever, great. Keep him. But they can't (and I doubt will) keep him if he's not effective, pretending it won't affect the W/L record. They can't (and I doubt will) go into three season thinking "his spot's not important." Fortunately, I doubt they believe he can spend even 2 weeks on the roster without being needed for important innings, much less a season. Because they understand there's no way a 7 man bullpen isn't worse than an 8 man.
