  1. At least the Twins' veterans are loyal. Instead of trying to impress and win a trade to a contender, they seem to be content to go down with the ship.
  2. Oh good, Pressley. We have so many wonderful bullpen choices.
  3. These clowns in the funny yellow suits make the Twins look competent!
  4. I went to a few A's/Twins games in the 1970s when I was in grad school. Even when Charlie Finley's A's were winning three straight World Series they didn't have any fans. Then free-agency hit and they essentially had a AAA team for a couple of years. Still didn't have any fans, but at least then there was a reason (and the Twins won a few times).
  5. "Kernels starter Evan Sanders struggled through 4.0 innings" I didn't realize we had a Kernel Sanders in the system.
  6. My tuppence worth: I'd look for offers on Grossman. He has strengths that can add something useful to a good lineup in the American League. He helps the Twins, but we have a better 4th OF in Granite and should be able to replace his bat. Polanco has never recovered from the death in his family earlier this year. It's been a downward spiral ever since, with poor performances draining his confidence, leading to more poor performances, both at the plate and in the field. Don't give up on him yet. Give him a chance to clear his head and come back in the spring with confidence renewed and see how he can grow. Think about what kind of nurturing (from teammates, coaches, or even outside counselors) would help him, and follow through with it. Rogers is part of my bullpen for the next few years. Necessity has pushed him into a more prominent role this year than any of us expected, and he did extremely well until the last couple of weeks. Likely overused. If even some of the AAA/AA/DL bullpen studs for whom we have high hopes work out, he can be a more-than-useful piece as LOOGY or LH setup man. Santana, Kintzler, and Dozier are useful pieces for next year, but I'd make them "available" if the right offer comes along. It would have to be pitching and would have to have high probability of making the team better by 2019.
  7. Well, I'd say more like "insignificant." We very likely gave up almost nothing, and got something that's not as useful as it seemed last week.
  8. Do any other old-timers remember Chris Taylor, the Iowa State and Olympic heavyweight wrestler who was about 7-0 tall and 400 pounds? I can't help thinking of him when they talk about the Dodgers' Chris Taylor. It would have been interesting to see him play baseball.
  9. Looks like no one is sitting in the Twins Daily seats behind home plate tonight.
  10. Is there any news about the injuries to Buxton and Sano?
  11. We can hope that this is just youth. Young players on the big stage in front of tens of thousands will naturally get a little amped up in those situations. For some, that might bring out their best; for others (especially Berrios, I think) it causes them to move away from the things that make them successful. If this is still happening in a couple of years, we can call them chokers. For now, I'd rather just think of them as young and learning.
  12. "Chattanooga is a train that just keeps on rolling as they improved to a remarkable 24-7 in the second half of the season." That, presumably, is the proverbial Chattanooga Choo-Choo?
  13. Is that a final-score prediction?
  14. Wow, Turner gives new meaning to "ugly-hair guy." They should trade him to the Ateletics!
  15. Or maybe Whine Sox, in honor of everyone's favorite broadcaster?
  16. Ha! It wasn't relevant in 1987, but that's one that spell-check would miss. I've lost count of how many student papers have discussed market failures due to pubic goods or recommendations for pubic policy.
  17. Not in the lineup. And I've seen nothing of any roster moves. Anyone else?
  18. And the aforementioned lineups: Twins 1. Brian Dozier [R] 2B (.249 .336 .442 .778) 2. Zack Granite [L] CF (.256 .341 .282 .623) 3. Joe Mauer [L] 1B (.283 .364 .393 .757) 4. Miguel Sano [R] 3B (.271 .366 .525 .891) 5. Eddie Rosario [L] LF (.296 .333 .484 .817) 6. Eduardo Escobar SS (.270 .327 .435 .761) 7. Max Kepler [L] RF (.257 .326 .423 .749) 8. Jason Castro [L] C (.223 .312 .370 .682) 9. Jose Berrios [R] P (.500 .500 .500 1.000) The old "best hitter at the bottom of the lineup" tactic! Dodgers 1. Chris Taylor [R] LF (.318 .387 .538 .925) 2. Corey Seager [L] SS (.293 .388 .506 .894) 3. Justin Turner [R] 3B (.369 .463 .569 1.032) 4. Cody Bellinger [L] 1B (.269 .350 .622 .973) 5. Yasmani Grandal C (.272 .320 .491 .812) 6. Joc Pederson [L] CF (.238 .349 .455 .804) 7. Chase Utley [L] 2B (.224 .321 .395 .716) 8. Yasiel Puig [R] RF (.250 .325 .462 .787) 9. Kenta Maeda [R] P (.154 .154 .192 .346) Go, Twines!
