  1. And 2019 Odo is a prime example that 93 is enough if you can.
  2. Given how often he gets in these situations, Sano needs to learn to hit better on three-strike counts.
  3. That depends entirely on how long Odo can go. If he can make it through 7 without giving up another run, then I think there's a good chance that the bullpen can hold the lead.
  4. Minnesota alchemy: Jake Odorizzi + Wes Johnson ---> Greg Maddux. I'm so impressed with how he hits his spots this year.
  5. They could resurrect the Weather Ball, but in black. (Not sure what that would mean about the day's weather, though.)
  6. Not sure how to feel about that. It's my 30th favorite MLB team against the closest challengers to my 1st favorite. One of those that you regret that both teams cannot lose.
  7. A fifth of a third is one fifteenth, no? Are they still the Mudhens? One of may favorite all-time minor-league names! I tried very hard to convince my daughter and her teammates to name their softball team the Mudhens, but they refused. It just seemed to fit perfectly in the wet Portland spring where half the games are canceled because the infield is too muddy.
  8. The Twins today really remind me of the toothless Twins of 2018 or 2016. Every guy who comes up you just know it's going to be an out.
  9. Two run lead. Two innings to play. If the bullpen's ERA is 9.00 we are set up for a tie. If less, we should win. I'm holding my breath...
  10. Apologies. That was a 7-inning final in the first of two. Ahead 2-0 after two in the second ... and of course one was a homerun.
  11. Yes. I know this will probably get me my first warning points, but I'm tired of the Astudillo thing. No competent pitcher will ever again throw him a strike and his average is headed down toward .200. He is not very good at any of the positions he plays, is very slow on the bases. Time for Cave, Arraez, or even Gordon to come up and get some ABs.
  12. And on the Red Wing front, they are up 19-4 in the 8th ... without a single homerun!
  13. Are we sure that the name isn't pronounced Pin - nada, as in nada? I'm disenchanted with our s-l-o-w and ineffective #5 starter. Much more fun to watch Smeltzer.
  14. Was just watching Rochester against Pawtucket. (Wings lead 10-0 with one out in the top of 3rd!). Nick Gordon is now up to .297 with two hits today. But he's so skinny! Somewhere between 2 and 3 of him would fit into the portly Sox's pitcher's uniform!
  15. Didn't we have a 4-run lead in the middle innings about 24 hours ago?
  16. And it gives the guys waiting to hit something to see to prepare for their own at bats.
  17. "In the fourth round they targeted Write State third baseman Seth Gray. Gray was teammates at Write State with Twins 2018 pick, and 2019 Midwest League All-Star, Gabe Snyder." Wright State? Orville and Wilbur would not be happy.
  18. I was poking around the MiLB site to see how the Twins kids were doing (the Wed Rings won with Arraez being held to 3-for-5 with a double). The Fresno pitcher has a perfect game through 5 against New Orleans. Two questions come to mind about New Orleans: 1. How in the world are they in the Pacific Coast League? 2. Who in the world would name a team the "Baby Cakes"? I think I know the answer to the first one (merger of old American Association), but #2?
  19. Three hours of rain would be a more effective way to finish this one off than the Twins bullpen is likely to muster...
  20. Twins are really looking a lot like pretenders about now.
  21. I don't think this rotation can win the division... It reminds me a little of the Reds' pitching staffs that complemented the Big Red Machine, but our hitting isn't that good.
  22. And part of that may have been the instability of the zone itself. I don't remember a game in which there have been more pitches on which the umpire disagreed with the TV tracker.
  23. I watched Smeltzer a few times on MiLB-TV with Pensacola and was impressed with the inability of the AA hitters to make contact, but I always figured it was smoke and mirrors and that good hitters would kill him. Not so, so far. Let's hope he can keep it going.
