  1. Really like the rotation with Kluber,Salazar, Bauer, House & Carrasco. Shaw and Allen help make up a formidable bullpen. Brandon Moss has a chance to be THE key pickup in the Central this offseason if he can knock 25-30 HR's out. The key though, as Nick said, is whether Brantley can replicate, for the most part, his terrific '14 season. If so, they have enough other solid pieces like Santana, Chisenhall and Kipnis to have a good year. I think the Indians will give the Tigers a run for their money as AL Central champs in '15. I'll say the Indians fall just short of the Tigers in the end. 2nd place at 87-75, 2 GB.
  2. Jeremy is leaving slots 9-13 open because by mid-season his rankings will look something like this: 8. Lewis Thorpe 9. Max Murphy 10. Max Murphy 11. Max Murphy 12. Max Murphy 13. Max Murphy 14. Max Kepler 15. Taylor Rogers Obviously, Murphy will be so good he'll need multiple slots. Taking on kind of bonus pool money characteristic.
  3. In the Twinkie Town interview with Rob Antony the asst GM touched a bit on the subject of Taylor Rogers. The only real concern with him is his tall, slender frame and how that profiles long-term as a starter. Can he hold up over 180 or 190 innings a year. Antony reiterated that they definitely plan to keep using Rogers as a starter but could be a bullpen piece if it doesn't work out.
  4. Seth- I think youngpadawan was referring to the profile that Nick wrote on Gonsalves thinking you wrote it: "If he can put in a full season and maintain his performance in High-A, he'll surely vault into the Top 10 next year and maybe even the Top 5."
  5. I hope that if Pelf wins the job out of spring it is by a decisive margin. If it's razor thin, we'll be hearing one of two things (if not both) by fans in Twins Territory: 1. Pelfrey only won the job because of his big salary and the Twins want to recoup some of their investment. 2. The Twins should have gone with the younger options (May or Meyer) since they are the future.
  6. I almost hope big Pelf can win the 5th starter role out of spring training just to see Twins fans' heads explode.
  7. Yes, the Phillies would need either Buxton or Sano in a deal. I'm sure they would want at least 2 top-10 type prospects that are on the doorstep to the big leagues.
  8. The South Siders might have a few issues with their infield. Gillaspie and Sanchez don't inspire a lot of confidence. Perhaps Micah Johnson, one of their top prospects, can come in and shore things up at 2B. Not sold on their bullpen either; think Robertson could be one of the biggest FA busts from this off-season. That being said, hard not to like their rotation especially if Rodon comes up and pitches well. Let's go with a record of 84-78, 3rd place, 5 games back of the Tigers.
  9. I like Wheeler also. Probably more than most folks here at TD. The guy suffers from "Hey, he's 6-8 so how come he doesn't throw 96 mph" expectations. He lives in the 90-91 velo but the guy just knows how to pitch! Anyway, I digress since he's not in Seth's list here. POT- player off topic!
  10. It'll be interesting to see what the Twins decide to do long term with Tyler Duffey; keep him as a starter or convert to a reliever like he was at Rice. Don't know if the Twins take into consideration the organizational depth or long-term contracts in the major league rotation when making that decision. With the improved change-up he showed last year it would seem he has a good 3 pitch mix that would play well as a starter. Personally, I would hope he remains in that role to hold his value either in within the organization or externally in a trade.
  11. How do you count 12 pitching prospects higher than Reed or Duffey? I've got Meyer, Berrios, Stewart, Gonsalves, Burdi, Thorpe, Rogers & May. Am I missing someone?
  12. . I was just about to say the same thing, Jeremy. Think a team like the Tigers would love to have each of these guys in their system? Absolutely.
  13. I think the Tigers have one more year in them. Win the division with 89 wins. Also, agree with those who think the window is closing on the Tigers. With their farm system in shambles it won't be long before time catches up with them.
  14. Any team desperate enough to bring in Kendrys Morales to try and inject life into a moribund offense is in serious, serious trouble. 80-82 record, 4th place in the AL Central.
  15. Yes, I see no reason to bring in Hunter if not for the specific reason of mentoring Hicks-y (and also Buxton). I also read that Rod Carew has been working with Aaron in the last few days. That tells me the Twins have their mind made up.
  16. My thoughts exactly. SOMEBODY has to lose when the AL Central teams play each other. Should be a lot of parity. I've got the Twins at 78-84, in last place. BUT, only 11 games behind the Tigers who will win the Central with 89. Also, will predict the Royals to have the biggest slide....4th place at 80-82 (two games clear of the Twins).
  17. Starting pitching is the most important thing. Nolasco needs to rebound and Gibson needs to be more consistent. Also, we need to play better against the AL East & West. As Nick said, the Twins have often been competitive against the AL Central. Outside the division is another story.
  18. Cedar Rapids will be a really good test for young Nick. IMO, the jump from rookie ball to full-season low A ball is one of the toughest jumps to make within the minor league system. Really need to be in good condition, both physically and mentally, and it sounds like Nick Gordon is.
  19. Any particular reason Max dropped to the 9th round? Sounds like he is at least average to plus in all five tools. Maybe he didn't always flash them consistently enough at Bradley.
  20. I don't mind Meyer starting in the bullpen. However, I don't really want him throwing an inning here and an inning there. He needs to be stretched out so he can slip into the rotation when needed. If he can't get that with the big club I'd rather see him in the Rochester rotation.
  21. I echo the comments of most on here. May is the guy for me in the 5th slot. I'm trying to remember if May had a worse outing than in his prior appearance through last August/September. There may have have been one. Point is, he was continually improving. I expect one or two DFA's and/or deals toward the end of spring training to "thin the herd" as they say.
  22. 7. Lewis Thorpe: LHS, 11-23-95 2015 start: either TJ surgery or Cedar Rapids. Might be best to shut him down with surgery early in ST in order to save his 2016 season. He would still be on pace for an early-20s appearance in the big leagues. If he gets through the elbow injury fine without surgery this year . . . wow. Unfortunately, this guy is my #1 story line to watch once the minor league spring training camp opens up. Hate to be a "Debbie-downer" but I'll be cringing every day as reports come back from Florida...waiting for the inevitable bad news. Definitely hope I'm wrong though.
  23. Wonder if the number of possible 40-man protectibles from this '12 class (as well as other classes) will affect whether Berrios or Buxton is promoted to the big club this year. Neither Buck or J.O. needs to be added till 2016 but would take an additional two spots if promoted in, lets say, September. I would hope the Twins would not let that affect their thinking, but you never know. Also, can anybody remember in the last 10 years or so the most players the Twins added to their 40-man roster between the September 1st expanded rosters date and the end of November? This year would have to be close to the top, I would think.
  24. Not sure about Shibuya and Levi Michael. Harrison would also need to re-discover his power at Chattanooga to be added (15-20 dingers would be nice). ABW needs to fix the holes in his swing.
  25. Mostly true, based more on age. Could have an older H.S. kid that only gets four years, I guess. Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization's 40-man roster and: – were 18 or younger on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is the fifth Rule 5 draft upcoming; or – were 19 or older on the June 5 preceding their signing and this is fourth Rule 5 draft upcoming.
