  1. Reading the ESPN article, what Boras wants is Union Shop rules. Decisions are not left up to the owners or management of the shop. The Union does. I'm NOT bashing Unions. They have had a very important role in our country's history. I just think they've taken it too far. Example, Kris Bryant. What if the Cubs still insist that Bryant needs the extra couple weeks to "work on some stuff"? What happens? Would this panel have the authority to force the Cubs to trade Bryant? Yeah, not happening. Scott Boras is a brilliant man and a top notch player agent. And he's playing the MLBPA like a bass fiddle.
  2. With what sounds like an effectively wild start and then gaining control of his game, Pelfrey actually deserves another start, maybe 2. Can anyone remember the last time Nolasco had a quality start?
  3. I see a sinker [splitter, according to Pelfry] at a speed over 91 as a future elbow injury. It's early, he's getting a 2nd chance on a 2nd start, so he's probably a little excited. I just hope Coach Allen convinces him to through the changeup more and reduce arm stress.
  4. Not if any of the hot, young MiLB INF prospects in come to fruition... Well, at least not a full decade
  5. Better year hitting, but still the primary CF. So, IMHO, the better choice would have been for Santana to continue learning CF than to send him back to SS without additional SS prep time. As far as the rest of the OF: They knew what Arcia was and added a 39yr old who is WELL past his time defensively [some say the worst defensive OF in baseball last year]. I don't think I'd halt any young OF's progress because of those 2, especially when Hunter should be gone next year. Hopefully sooner.
  6. The Twins have inexplicably set this path: Santana at SS, Escobar at UTL, a soon to be retiree in RF and a sack of donuts in CF. Santana spent 62 games in CF, 31 at SS. How did management think naming Santana as starting SS? Especially when Escobar had a very good year at SS [upside be damned] ? And still no MLB quality OF's in sight ready to take over? I get what management is saying: Keep Santana where he is to get experience at SS. I highly disagree with the way they are managing the team this year. IMHO: Spring Training should have started with Santana in CF, Escobar at SS. Then you've got the extra year to figure out where you can find OF'ers and a another year of working with the young INF' s in the MiLB to replace Escobar, IF he doesn't work out or has better trade value.
  7. Well, the whole handling of Santana has been bizarre, at best. The "good" reason for Santana playing CF last year was the Twins, inexplicably didn't seem to have any outfielders to play, ya know, outfield. How the heck can a professional organization pull off something like that?? Ahhhhhhhhh... I feel better now So Santana is still re-adjusting to SS and his backup, Escobar, adjusting to being a bench player. Santana was developing as a CF last year, so I think the whole poor defense thing is overblown. Escobar had an excellent year at SS, with good defense. So I ask the same question, again: why the NEED to move Santana back to SS when you had a good thing going with Santana in CF and Escobar at SS last year?
  8. Don't know about anyone else, but I'd like to hear a lot more from Brunansky.
  9. Jon Rauch. 6' 11" Age 24 debuted with White Sox. Oops, starting pitchers, only
  10. Look at his record starting with his 1st season as a full time started. Every year after his career record high in innings, he's had a bad year. W L ERA, Games Starts Innings 18 8 4.19 31 29 176.1 <------- @ NY 2010 5 5 5.79 17 14 74.2 16 13 4.19 32 32 191.1 4 14 5.19 30 29 145.2 16 10 3.52 32 32 209.2 <--------@ MN 2014 As I said in the original post, in reference to the new contract for Hughs, Twins management should have known this and not run him out there last year just to get his 16th win.
  11. Recently [ last week, the week before?? ] Hughes said what I've always said about his record, good year, bad year. And it was always good year [ highest innings to date [cough, cough. overused. ] followed by bad year. Someone in the front office should have notice this.
  12. My last word on Torii Hunter: an article by Aaron Gleeman on the day after the Twins sign Hunter. It starts getting interesting in the 3rd paragraph. http://aarongleeman.com/2014/12/03/twins-sign-torii-hunter-for-10-5-million/
  13. With each passing game, the signing of Torii Hunter only looks worse.
  14. Like Molitor was saying today, it's not just the poor fielding, but those were plays the were making during Spring Training. At this point, I think Molitor is being too lenient with these guys. Time to kick some butts. One more week, start demoting people.
  15. For watching Twins games, what do you recommend? I can add FS North HD for $11 or MLB Extra for $$$. I think there's blackouts back and forth...
  16. Twins look competitive. Trevor May looks like he belongs.
  17. Arcia is still young, and it's really on the coaching staff to keep challenging him. Classic example: I believe it was the 2nd game, but there were runners on base and at a bare minimum, Arcia needed to pull the ball, and advance the runners. After hacking off a bunch of pitches, he did that! ONE BIG PROBLEM: he go pissed because it was a weak slow-roller and didn't start running hard to 1st. By the time he got to 1st, he still almost beat out the throw. That's one of those teaching moments Arcia REALLY needs!
  18. Buxton, Sano & Walker are now seeing a better quality of breaking balls. It's early, but if they don't turn it around in AA, none of them will make it to MLB.
  19. Looks like Trevor May is starting on Monday... http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/Twins_Insider.html
  20. If you want to ruin any hope of Buxton or Sano being legit MLB players, go ahead. Bring them up now.
  21. The thing that bugs me the most about the Ervin Santana suspension is why did this come out a heartbeat before the season starts? Frustrating.....
  22. I think it'll all depend on how he handles breaking balls, because he's gonna see a lot this year. I'll say .260 BA, 25+ HR's, and a butt-load of K's.
  23. "and, of course, nobody would be at all surprised to see Aaron Hicks rejoin the big league club." I would be stunned to see Hicks with the Twins this year. I predict his hitting at AAA this year will match closely with his MLB stats to date and may get cut at the end of the year. I just don't see the fire in Hicks to succeed. And I really hope I'm wrong.
