  1. Dozier is on record as saying he likes to hit lead-off. In an American League scenario / Twins fantasy scenario, if the #8 and 9 hitters had good OBP's, I like Dozier in the lead-off spot. In the National League, there's that pesky Pitcher hitting 9th
  2. If things pan out with Berrios and De Leon, and the group of Buxton, Kepler, Polanco and Sano progress as expected/hope, I think having Alvarez ready by 2019 would be perfect timing. If Falvey can squeak out another promising SP from LA with the same debut time, this would be a fantastic trade!
  3. Overall, I'd say any weakness on the part of this bullpen was due to overuse. A starting staff that doesn't explode before the 5th inning would be very helpful.
  4. What happened to De Leon + Alvarez and the hangup was the Twins wanted a 3rd player?
  5. A Season of Change: On the business side. From the ownership to the front office. Change in philosophy. On the player side. Adding some mediocre veteran's [Exception: Nunez] to keep some talented MiLBer's in the MiLB for a little more seasoning. On the field: Some of that MiLB talent has worked it's way into the lineup. Out with the old, in with the new. For all the negatives, I'm really excited to see the developments this new year.
  6. I would say, nothing is impossible. Different people recover differently from concussions. It would be exciting to see the ol' Joe back!
  7. Wasn't there a movie about a weekend in Seattle?
  8. At what point did the narrative change from De Leon + Alvarez to just De Leon? As of yesterday, DaveW is still reporting the deal on the table is De Leon + Alvarez. Other than the initial timing of the trade, he seems to be pretty spot on. Any trade of Dozier should include at least a MLB pitching candidate and a couple more for the MiLB pot.
  9. So, your source is saying both De Leon and Alvarez. I think some people here have already quoted Heyman ( http://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/heyman-strange-market-encarnacion-dozen-sluggers-remain/ ) that the Dodgers "are not willing to include top first base prospect Cody Bellinger or top young pitchers Walker Buehler or Yadier Alvarez along with De Leon." Your sources are still firm on both De Leon and Alvarez? I'd take that without much argument and run!
  10. sigh....... One more time. Maybe http://www.startribune.com/phil-miller-s-sunday-insider-red-sox-show-how-patience-with-prospects-can-be-rewarded/383534181/

  12. Hey Dave, when you say "DeLeon and Alvarez are on the table" is that individually [either, or] or both for Dozier? Just want to clarify....
  13. Development/progress will the be key this year. Buxton [working Tom Brunansky] started to turn the corner. I'm very disappointed that he didn't followup the year by playing in Winter Ball. Grossman: a slow-footed OF with a weak arm playing in LF. A position where he has to turn a 180 to reach a ball into the corner an heave the ball to 2nd. How could that possibly work out? Yes, the Twins need much more OBP. Just don't believe that makes up for his defense. There must be better alternatives... No? Kepler: Not worried. MLB pitching caught up with him. Adjust. Rosario: Sophomore slump much? Same as Kepler. D. Santana: He played 6 different positions. That's all I got. Despite his speed, his base running was awful. No doubt here that Falvey and Levine will be making a change.
  14. From Cover Girl to Estée Lauder? Not following. Catcher's masks for Everyone!!
  15. From MLBTR: TODAY: St. Louis is not “actively” working to acquire Dozier, per ESPN.com’s Mark Saxon (via Twitter). http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/cardinals-brian-dozier-trade-rumors-nationals-twins.html So, it appears DaveW was right. Again.
  16. Per article: There’s something of a catch, though: per the report, “he wants it to be at a higher value than the qualifying offer.” "It seems, then, that Bautista would need to see something greater than $17.2MM on an offer sheet for the 2017 season before he’s willing to give up his pursuit of a lengthier pact — at least at this stage." And, apparently Toronto isn't pursuing him. All this says is, pass, to me...
  17. taking a nap until January.......
  18. I wonder what it would take to pry JD Martinez away from Detroit. I think he'd be a great addition to a young, building team. Unless, of course, he's a total jerk.....
  19. Firstly, I think it important to note that the Twins were late to the game because Falvey & Co. were still still in the process of building the business and baseball related orgs. Discussions were most certainly going on, but focus seemed to be on the organization first. Secondly, I don't remember reading that the Twins actually requested Bellinger. I think that was part of a TD fantasy discussion. And I'm betting the Falvey was also talking to many other teams. But none of them have the luster of the LA Dodgers. Thirdly, a prospect is a prospect until they're not. It's a crap shoot. Dodgers have a pretty good record of developing players; the Twins do not. Finally: Tom Petty's "The Waiting" is one of the whiniest songs I've ever heard. Hurts my ears. American Girl! One of the Best Ever!!!
  20. Wrong direction, wrong player, wrong time....
  21. Seems very similar to Berrios's MLB start with the Twins. With the exception of a great 1st game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't give much credence to 1st year pitching stats. Far different class of hitters. Now, if same pitchers are really really good, I credence ALL DAY LONG!!
  22. No truer words have been said. Or typed. So many things have been said about DeLeon and Alvarez, it's really hard for me to tell what their prospects really are. Same things were said about the upside for Berrios: major-league ready. And at the end of the season, Twins started changing his windup. So: NOT major-league ready. Not yet, anyway. And there's the thing where, the Dodgers' have already agreed to include them in the package for Dozier: as you have quoted from your sources. I am firmly on the side that says: Trade Dozier. While I think it's highly possible his HR total will drop with the Dodgers [new League, new pitchers and all] Dozier has consistently raised his HR and RBI totals over the last 4 years. With a highly desirable contract, I would be inclined to ask for more than DeLeon and Alvarez, too. It's OK if DeLeon and Alvarez aren't 100% MLB ready. Promising is what I'd be looking for. There's enough of a starting staff right now to get the Twins through 2017 season. With Berrios getting a 2nd year of experience, I'd at least expect [want, maybe....] DeLeon and Alvarez to be ready by 2018. By that time, Buxton, Kepler and Sano should prove whether, or not, they are upside-headed MLB hitters and [2/3rd's of them] MLB on defense.
  23. Grab a scout from an organization that knows how to build a MiLB system. Seems odd to see a move like that from the Twins
  24. DaveW has posted on Twitter that De Leon and Alvarez are the 2 main pieces, with possibility of 1-2 more players/prospects. I think we need to look at this as a, at a minimum, 2 year rebuild. There are a few young pitchers currently in the Twins organization that can fill that roll, develop, and may give Twins [if De Leon and Alvarez as expected/hope] a trade surplus they've never had: Pitchers that other teams desire. IMHO, I would say the best course is to keep building the legion vast and grab a couple lower-level pitching prospects from LA and keep back-feeding the system. Or I could be fill with crap.....
