  1. On August 2, I wrote these guys off after that pathetic West Coast trip. I figured that it was a nice 4-month run but the bad road trip and then Sano's injury would finally bring them back to Earth. I've never been happier to be that wrong. They dug deep, made up the WC deficit within a week, and then rode the rollercoaster of wins and losses before breaking out the 5-game win streak at the perfect time. Kudos to the players for thumbing their nose at the disappointment from the Trade Deadline and continuing to battle throughout the last 2 months of the season. Soooo...wildcard game. 1 game to move on. Guess what, kids? There's ZERO pressure on these guys. No one expected them here and certainly no one thinks they're gonna walk into the Bronx and win given the franchise history there (especially a number of posters here). So they can let it all hang out, go for broke, play loose. If they are leading or have it close in the late innings, the sphincters will tighten all over NYC. We'll have our best guy on the mound and it'll be all hands on deck with the exception of probably Berrios and Gibby. Take a shot and see what happens. But let's enjoy this ride because I have a feeling we're going to be experiencing more of it, if not more this season, then likely next season.
  2. Thanks, Chisux!!! First and only time I'll cheer your walkoff winner.
  3. Loving the negativity in here tonite. Can't give credit to the other team's ridiculously good pitching.
  4. That should have been a routine throw by Esco. Instead, he threw him a damn sinker. Mauer has saved plenty of bases with that scoop all year, it's really not hard to make a routine throw and hit a guy in the chest.
  5. 3 man rotations worked well in 87 and 91. Not quite sure what changed over the years that everyone decided they had to go to 4-man rotations and the series schedules were in the same amount of days. I'd be fine with a rotation of Berrios-Gibby-Erv (since Erv will start the WC game). Have Gee as a long man and maybe even have Mejia as a situational lefty. I just wonder what the impetus was to insert Mejia back into the rotation and not at least give Slegers another shot.
  6. Your son is wise beyond his years. I've always thought Buxton would be a great leadoff guy but right now, don't mess with anything!! Hard to believe after last year's disaster and then the sputtering through late June and July that we would be at this point where we can watch these guys get the champagne out. Call me crazy (you're crazy) but I'm having a good feeling about next Tuesday, wherever they play the game (let's go to Fenway!).
  7. Win tonite or lose and still clinch the wildcard -- go nuts like you just won the division. It's a giant accomplishment anytime but especially for a team that is so young and had the sting of 103 losses the previous season following it. I'll never blame a team for a full-on celebration for clinching a playoff spot. It's AFTER that spot is clinched that I take issue with. Win the WC game or the ALDS and we're popping tops? I don't see NBA or NHL teams going to the goggles for winning a first or second round series. If you win the pennant, I get it...that's a league championship there, no issues at all. But a WC and ALDS win doesn't need to be raising the stock of Moet.
  8. This is the type of character builder that they couldn't squeeze out in NY last week.
  9. What are we thinking as far as Trevor May is concerned if he can come back at full strength? Starter or Pen? I think he's better off in the pen. I advocated a couple of years ago that he could be the middle guy in a 3-man rotation similar to what the Royals did in 2014 and 15 with their pen. As it is now, the Twins are going to need to find a closer unless they think that's Belisle's job long-term. I think you and I both know that's not terribly appetizing, even though Belisle has been decent since inheriting the role. Perhaps May could someday be a closer? Could Gee be a closer? Now, I'm saying this not knowing any contract situations and I'm not looking while the game is going on. But of the arms that we've seen throughout the season, this is who I would like to see in the pen next year: Belisle (if he's signed thru 18) Hildenberger (potential 7th inning guy in a 7-8-9 Royalsesque rotation) Rogers (I'm hot and cold with him but I think he'll get better) Busenitz (maybe he could be a closer sometime down the line with his heat?) May (depending on injury status) I'm not terribly interested in Pressly or Duffey coming back and there's not enough data on Curtiss or Moya as of yet.
  10. Nice job, rally killer. Sheesh. Rally killer? Rally STARTER!!
  11. Anyone wanna trade Dozier while his value his high??
  12. And now we can get into the best part of OUR bullpent. Come on Hildy!!
  13. Tonight has also served as a good exhibit of those pitchers who hopefully won't be on the roster next year -- Colon, Pressly, Duffey....I'm looking at you.
  14. Difference in the game so far is the Indians got the big hit when necessary and the Twins have continued their frustrating habit of leaving guys in scoring position in big spots. The first 2 games against the Yankees and tonite's game have been good training tools for the playoff crucible. They're not exactly brimming with confidence at the plate when the chips are at their highest.
  15. Looks like we have an All-Star game on our hands tonite -- everyone gets to pitch!
  16. Probably a good thing Tonkin won't be on the playoff roster.
  17. He doesn't want to start with a leadoff homer either, Dick.
  18. After he got done reading the ticket promo, they then went into the scenarios for Game 163 (oh God, not THAT again!). But in the middle of that promo was talk about tickets on sale for 'a potential Game 163, the wildcard game, and the ALDS'. I had to do a double-take when I heard him say it.
  19. I'm wondering what knucklehead wrote the copy to think that the Twins would host the WC game. And then, also wondering why Dick would read it.
  20. I thought Herr Deutsch was no good vs leftys?
  21. OKTOBERFEST!! http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/10/06/article-2446917-1890E06A00000578-192_634x403.jpg
