Let's hope Sano gets that same 'safe' call on a check swing that Judge just got. Ya know, just because you've had 2 calls overturned at first base, Mr. Umpire, doesn't mean you can continue making poor calls.
My petition to MLB for next year: Once the schedule comes out, determine how many times the Twins & Yankees are scheduled for Yankee Stadium and then delete them from the schedule and make the Twins 0-3 (or 4) and the Yankees 3-0 (or 4) and thus compress their schedules. No sense in wasting time with possible injuries or weather delays when we know already what's going to happen.
Why do we waste our time playing these games? Once the schedule comes out, the Twins should just petition the league to allow them to forfeit however many games are to be played at Yankee Stadium and save on travel costs.
That's what happens when you nibble nibble nibble instead of going right at guys. And you can't nibble against the Yankees because they are computer-programmed to not swing at anything outside the strike zone. He gets 2 quick strikes on Stanton and then it's try and get him to chase and he failed. With the exception of Berrios, this is a bad disease that is going through the pitching staff. Hitters are too good nowadays to swing at bad balls.
How about go with your best reliever? Why does a reliever have to have a certain role in a certain inning? Isn't the job to get guys out no matter the inning?
The lefty-lefty BS is so goshdarn overrated yet every manager subscribes to it and has subscribed to it for a generation. There's so much overmanaging involved in today's game thanks to numbers and stupid analytics rather than sticking to the 'feel' of the game. Reed's had a clean and easy 8th inning? Who cares, time to take him out because the book dictates that I have to put my closer in. Lefty pitcher to face a righty with a meaningless base open and a lefty on deck? Walk that batter to face the lefty. Nevermind that Span was loving every second of this opportunity and his speed won the game.
Why does Zach Duke continue to breathe our air with a Twins uniform on? How do you screw up that fundamental as a veteran? No way they have an angle to conclusively see this on replay.
I know it's probably the percentage play to set up a potential force at 2nd if you need it but do you really want to face the guy that's killed you for most of the game?
Those Twins who have been shifted against in this series should be laughed at for their arrogance and incompetence in not taking the easy base hit by bunting it down the 3B line. Bunts may not be sexy but they can get the job done if placed right and they're basically giving you the single.
Said the same thing when it skittered by Morrison. But the manager is so scared of putting the DH in the game no matter what it does to your defensive alignment. Hell, put Sano at first and get his bat in the game.
2 strikes...keep nibbling to a terrible batter. You get what you deserve on that one, Rodney. And if you're the relay man at 2B there, why in the world would you try to throw to Rodney covering first base and it has to be a PERFECT throw.
Gotta hand it to the home plate umpire today -- he's been on that outside corner spot the entire game. I praise his consistency. Too bad he's been consistently wrong every time.
Any time they want to DFA Duke would be fine with me. One thing I've noticed a lot in these first few games is that this pitching staff does a ton of nibbling.
