  1. He only needs to be in the minors for something like 2 weeks for the Twins to gain an extra year of control, with 2 off days in the 1st 2 weeks, they really wouldn't even necessarily need a 5th starter more than once before promoting Berrios. But, with all the options available that's unlikely to happen until sometime in May, when someone is injured or ineffective
  2. Right or wrong, in that scenario I think its more likely to be Rosario/Santana/Sano.
  3. I have to be honest. I did not expect to come across anyone in 2016 banging the drum for Ryan Sweeney to be the CFer over the #1 prospect in baseball. Any relation to the Sweeney's?
  4. I think we just have a different definition of "floor". You certainly could be right about the projections being off, and 78-80 wins may be a good guess going into the year. The floor is that they don't stay as healthy as last year, Perkins, Doziers 2nd half struggles carry over, instead of being #2 in baseball in "cluster luck" they fall to #29, etc. There are enough question marks on this team, the division could potentially be the best in baseball, I would say the floor is somewhere around 68-70 wins.
  5. Calling Duffey a high upside young arm is a pretty loose usage of that term. And while I'd like to see May in the rotation, it sounds like that really is not even a possibility at this point.
  6. A Win total in the upper 70's is a pessimistic floor??!? On paper, this team is the 4th or 5th best one in their own division. That doesn't mean they can't surpass any projections, but a pessimistic floor might be 68-70 wins. How many innings can possibly go to high-upside young arms, considering in terms of rotation they only have 1 of those who will likely reach the majors this year in Berrios?
  7. He's almost 30 and signed to a fairly low deal - its not like some uber prosect we're talking about. Obviously if Park mashes from Day 1 you aren't putting him in a true platoon - I'm more talking about as he adjusts to Major League pitching.
  8. Sano and Arcia aren't going to be in the same outfield. If Arcia is getting major OF time, its going to be because Sano is DH'ing or playing 3B. Austin Jackson is not a 4th Outfielder, and if he does take a 1 year prove it deal it isn't going to be with the Twins as a backup
  9. Arcia's platoon should be with Park as he adjusts to the Majors. With Gardenhire I would have no faith in this happening, with Molitor I'm at least semi optimistic.
  10. Scouting the Stat line accomplishes very little. I read prospect rankings written by real scouts to form my general opinion on players. ABW has never been thought of as much of a prospect, and with his K-rate I think its very unlikely he'll be able to hit Major League pitching.
  11. Suzuki's biggest problem is he's just not very good.
  12. Holy cow I hope you are wrong. Sano-Rosario-Quentin/Arcia would be a disaster of the highest order. Buxton will make the team, and be the team's best player by WAR this year. It is absurd the people on this board discounting his ability because of some sporadic at bats last season.
  13. You conveniently mentioned Sano's "struggles" at 3b in the minors, mentioned an "injury history", and yet Ignored the fact that he's now being thrown to the wolves as an OUTFIELDER. Something he has never done before. I've never seen anyone on this site say Arcia is a good OFer, he would certainly have been a viable DH candidate if Park wasn't around.
  14. At least there is evidence to show Sano's ability at 3rd. What happens if Sano is a complete disaster in RF? This seems to be the more likely of the two. Do you then try to trade Plouffe in say June, and move Sano back to 3rd, where he likely hasn't taken grounders in months? Do you just let him DH the rest of the year, making him another year removed from the field, and also rendering either Mauer or Park useless?
  15. Guessing you also never planned on Jason Bartlett making the 2014 team as an outfielder?
  16. Another RH bat! March 2016 - Quentin makes team, Arcia released Mid April 2016 - Quentin goes on DL, retires September 2016 - Arcia hits 25th HR for someone
  17. Not only starts, he was pinch hitting at times down the stretch. 1-11 w/ a single and a walk as a pinch hitter.
  18. You are correct that he was never considered a top prospect. The reason people are "fixated" is because the Twins trotted him out there for 277 plate appearances last year, and he was the worst hitter in baseball (and his defense wasn't any better). The difference between what they did and going to Escobar as the SS a few weeks earlier, may have been a playoff spot. My "fixation" with Santana is finding out where they are going to give away at bats this season.
  19. I think the 1st 3 bullets are at fairly likely to happen. I think the concluding sentence will never happen with this Org. They have not won a single playoff game in 11 seasons and there hasn't been even a whiff of change, other than when TR retired on his own.
  20. That's a neat theory. Here's a more likely scenario. Danny Santana can't hit when he doesn't have off the charts BABIP luck. The Twins are going to force him into starts all over the outfield where he'll continue to be one of the worst hitters in the league, and a bad outfielder.
  21. I'm not accusing you of doing this (you may be), but its funny to me the people (Terry Ryan?) who honestly believe Santana is going to be able to hit as an OFer, but can't as a SS.,,, Yet from the other side of their mouth tell us Sano's move to OF won't effect his bat at all. Frankly I don't think it really matters - but you can't have it both ways
  22. Park was signed with the idea that Plouffe would be traded, I refuse to believe whatever the Twins say to the contrary.
  23. Yeah that's what I meant in my reply - was speaking to original poster who made that preposterous statement.
  24. Huh. The Twins are projected to finish last in the AL Central, and any glimmer of hope they have centers around guys like Sano, Kepler, Gibson, Dozier etc... I assumed on a board like this most people would know Bill Smith signed/drafted them. But TR did do a great job drafting the top ranked player in the 2012 draft at #2.
