  1. Career is a more meaningful sample size than August and September of 2015. Escobar never walked in the minors either for what its worth. I'm an Escobar fan, I don't mean this to come off as bashing him, he's turned into a good player. I just don't think someone who takes so few walks qualifies as a leadoff hitter Doziers BB% the last 3 years; 8.2%, 12.6%, 8.7%
  2. People who look for reasons to defend the Pohlad's for not spending money. A fairly common refrain you will read here, and other places is that they cannot spend more money because they do not have a TV deal like many other teams. While they will never have a deal like the LA teams, etc... it does appear the one they signed was pretty terrible for the team. My point is, if that is St. Peter's job, why doesn't he get more blame for that?
  3. http://www.raysindex.com/2014/10/rays-next-tv-deal-could-be-worth-80-100-million-per-year.html It's also been a pretty common refrain from the Pohlad Pocket Protectors.
  4. With Mauer, Dozier, eventually Buxton as available options... I'm not seeing the need to try and force Escobar and his 6% BB rate into the leadoff spot.
  5. He certainly could prove me wrong in Spring, but until I see him, I think Arcia will be a better option vs RH pitchers.
  6. Eduardo Escobar has a career obp of .303. Opening day vs Gallardo or Tillman, I would go; Mauer Dozier Sano Arcia (DH) Plouffe Rosario Escobar Murphy (I know this will be Suzuki, but its my lineup!) Buxton
  7. Andrew Friedman, Theo Epstein, Mark Shapiro, etc. Aren't they getting like $15 million this year only? That's not a market deal. It may have been the day it was signed, but its bad business to put yourself in a non-negotiable long term deal like it sounds like they have. Rob Antony was just piggybacking on the front office/ broken system talk. I would compare him to Bill Smith, but I don't think that would be fair to Bill.
  8. I don't have a list in front of me, but don't most teams now have a president of baseball operations, or a President that does have baseball experience? Why does St. Peter get a pass for the TV deal that we keep hearing is way under market value, I assume he was the one who negotiated it? The sooner they replace Rob Antony, the better
  9. The biggest issue with this front office's free agent "strategy" is the middle tier market, or washed up veterans seem to be the only place they shop. There is absolutely no value in signing a Santana, Nolasco, Pelfrey, Correia, etc. Santana and Nolasco were #4 starters, paid to be #2/3 starters. At best, they eat innings on a bad team. At worst, their contracts are unmovable, and they take rotation spots from younger, more deserving guys. You either take a flyer on diamonds in the rough like Hughes (young, upside), or overpay for stars. They've obviously never done the latter, and other than Hughes (which they screwed up 1 winter later) I can't think of an example where they took a shot on someone looking to rebuild their value.
  10. Well, I wish you were in charge.... (Though I'm totally fine with starting Berrios in the minors for 2-3 weeks, skipping the 5th starters spot a couple of times for service time reasons)
  11. Success? If that is the tried and true method, maybe it is time to change things up. Seeing as they have not won a playoff game in 11 years, and have won 1 playoff series in 25 years.
  12. He definitely talked retirement at end of 2016, but I don't recall if it was from the Strib, 1500am, or both
  13. Reusse is retiring after this year, correct? Can't come soon enough... now if we can just find out a way to get him to bring Souhan with him.
  14. Tim Stauffer was topping out at 84 throughout Spring Training last year. Even the 6-7 weeks he spent on the active roster were too many.
  15. At the risk of making an assumption about Terry Ryan's feelings... Casey Fien had a 3.55 ERA last season. He sees this as being a good pitcher, I don't think he looks much beyond that. In the interview with Reusse he basically lumped Fien in with Perkins, Jepsen and May as being the rocks of the bullpen.
  16. Ha - you "assumed" I was talking about you, and not in general. But way to kill a reasonable discussion with this post.
  17. He started to see results based some on luck, and some on good seasons from Rosario (Smith), Sano (Smith), Dozier (Smith), Plouffe (TR Round 1). Getting Escobar was nice, he also gave up a pretty damn good pitcher to get him. What happens when nearly the same team as last year wins 76 games this season? Bill Smith's fault I would assume?
  18. Buxton was rated the top player in the draft by nearly every scout. The Astros saved money by drafting Correa, that they used to take McCullers I believe. Definitely worked out well for them. As for the top paragraph, I'm sorry if I'm not inclined to pat Ryan on the back for these perceived changes. Much of the front office staff remains the same as it has been 10+ years. He gets credit for changing the MLB staff? It only took 4 years of 90+ losses to do that.
  19. I'm just not sure I understand what TR has actually done? Filled the pitching staff w/ #4 starters making good money. His best signing was Hughes, which he completely screwed up by extending after 1 season. Traded Span + Revere for Meyer + May... meh (I liked both trades at the time) Drafted the best player in the 2012 draft #2 overall. How exactly did he rebuild the team other than getting some high draft picks? The core of last years roster were Bill Smith guys, or TR guys from his 1st go around
  20. 3. Sano, Gibson, Dozier, Kepler, etc. etc. were Bill Smith guys. The Cubs went to the NLCS, the Twins haven't won a post season game in 11 years, or been to the postseason in 5 seasons... but yes, TR's job here is done, rebuild complete
  21. Trevor May and JO Berrios disagree with you.
  22. Lots of talk about Suzuki being able to handle the Twins pitchers better, I would say Murphy has that down alright.... http://m.yesnetwork.com/video/294971183
  23. To be fair, they had an ownership change only a few years ago... but I'll go as far as to say it's one of the worst 3 jobs in baseball (except of course you get to live in San Diego..)
  24. They have a pretty poor major league roster, with some bad contracts on the books, and a bottom tier farm system. I guess if that is the definition "the right job", 28 other teams fit as well. This is their opening day payroll ranks; 2012- 30th 2013- 25th 2014- 21st 2015- 22nd
  25. He interviewed with San Diego twice... isn't that kind of the definition of a dump franchise with no hope?
