  1. Again, neither Hicks or Gomez were ever on the level of Buxton as a prospect. These comparisons really need to stop this year. They all spent their age 19 seasons in A Ball (buxton a + high a) Buxton: .334/.424/.520 Hicks: .251/.353/.382 Gomez: .275/.331/.376 Buxton's 2014 was a wash due to injury, but he dominated AA/AAA in his 72 games last season. The success he had last year in the minors at 21, was never even close to being matched by Gomez in his MILB career, and Hicks only matched as a 22 year old in AA. Was Hicks really "stunted" by starting 2013 in MN, or was he just not ready AND not that good/ can't hit Left handed? Gomez really took 4 full seasons to recover from being put in Majors at 22, or was Gardenhire not always the best with young guys, and his power didn't develop till he matured?
  2. Here's my issue: Danny Santana does not look ready to face MLB pitching, and isn't a Center Fielder. Always bet on Talent. Buxton is far more talented than Hicks, I've seen no evidence to suggest he can't improve at the Major League level and would need to be in AAA to do so. Would you rather have him working with Molitor and Brunansky every day, or the AAA staff? He very well may not hit from Day 1. But his glove and speed is more important than anything Danny Santana can provide. These should be the Twins 2 questions: Will Buxton be a better player for 10 years if he spends April and May in Rochester? I highly highly doubt it Are the Twins in 2016 more likely to win games with Danny Santana playing CF in April and May? NOO
  3. If Santana opens the season as the starting CFer they should just board up Target Field and shut it down.
  4. The Kubel / Bartlett comparisons are far more valid IMO for Abad... He could get shelled all Spring and still have the upper hand on making the roster.
  5. I will blame him for having Antony as his #2, but that discussion is for another time. I agree with you that at some point the Bartlett/ Kubel 2014 talk needs to end. I also agree with you that Ryan didn't see Bartlett shag fly balls that Spring (though I'm sure he saw that he had 2 hits in 30+ at bats or whatever it ended up being). I just find it highly unlikely he gave Antony complete control to do with the roster as he pleased. TR signed Bartlett and Kubel, and certainly signed off on their making the team. I believe they were his only bats signed that offseason.
  6. You are pushing the same personal agenda that you are accusing others of. You believe Terry Ryan had 0 involvement in roster decisions March of 2014. Others believe he had to have been involved. To say with such certainty that he spent 0 time thinking about Bartlett is an opinion, just like its my opinion that if he talked to Antony, it was about the roster. He talked with Antony (who still reports to him) often, that is a fact.
  7. Terry Ryan was away from the team, but absolutely involved with baseball decisions that March. It was frequently written that he checked in with Antony often.
  8. They have 2 days off in the 1st 2 weeks. The 1st time they would need a 5th starter is Monday April 18th. Last year Kris Bryant for Service time issues was promoted on April 17th (I don't know the date it would be this year for the extra year of control). Of course they are going to break camp with 5 starters. My point is, they would be foolish to put Berrios on the Opening Day roster when at this point they can so easily gain the extra year.
  9. We haven't, but that's fair enough. I don't expect you to be critical of your employer. My mind has been made up over 19 years of results, I'm not making some snap judgement on someone who is new to the job. As for my signature, he said it, not me.
  10. I think it is certainly a possibility that he doesn't hit from Opening day on... I think his defense + base running alone make him by far the best option of any potential CFer on the roster. I don't believe he has anything more to gain in the Minor Leagues, so I personally would not option him again. I don't believe that he is so delicate that hitting .200 for the 1st couple months is going to ruin him as a prospect. He can take his lumps at the ML level while helping the team win in other ways.
  11. Maybe its not fair to point where he started, but its fair to say he does not complement TR well... Ie; his lack of knowledge or understanding of advanced metrics. From the outside, I see him as more of a TR clone, minus the years of scouting experience.
  12. A Yale alum in Theo Epstein is a tad different than someone who evaluates pitchers by W-L and couldn't tell you what BABIP stood for. Ignoring all of that, handing a GM job to the 2nd in command of an unsuccessful operation wouldn't seem to be progress at all.
  13. Mike Trout and Byron Buxton were both the top prospect in baseball, who struggled in their 1st 200 mlb at bats. That is a farrrr more valid comp then Aaron Hicks, who was never near that level of prospect (bounced around in top 100 lists, don't think he was ever in a top 30). Mike Trout was not on pace to be one of the greatest players of all time after his 1st taste of the majors, which was kind of my point. PS: I don't think Buxton is going to be as good as Mike Trout, no one does.
  14. The good old, Aaron Hicks struggled so Buxton will as well argument. Can't wait for these to go away. Psst: Mike Trout didn't hit in his first 200 mlb at bats either, why is that not brought up but Hicks is? Trout and Buxton are more similar prospects, no?
  15. Where are you getting this from? Neither the eye test, nor any stat backs this up? He has turned himself from a way below avg fielder, into a competent one, even an "average" 3B. I have no idea where people are getting that he's one of better guys in league from.
  16. Handing him a 1B mitt, and having him play 25 games there, 25 games at 3b, and 100 at DH and watching him hit 40 home runs sounds like a tad bit better fate than watching him butcher RF and potentially get hurt... but maybe thats just me.
  17. I'm all for getting Berrios in the rotation quickly, but I don't really see the point (and I don't think there's any chance it happens) of putting him on the Opening Day roster. You don't even need a 5th starter more than once or twice in the first few weeks of the season. I would wait until late April or early May to promote him.
  18. The risk is the trickle down effect on the roster. See the 9 page Sano to RF thread. If Sano gets hurt in April while trying to learn RF....
  19. http://espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/insider/post?id=5068 2. Byron Buxton - might not hit immediately, but baserunning + defense will provide tons of value 4. Jose Berrios - Right now, better than Milone, perhaps better than Duffey as well 12. Max Kepler - Thinks Rosario is more of an extra OFer in the long run w/ obps in the .280s. Could have 400+ at bats in ML this year Others to Watch: Jorge Polanco
  20. Maybe I misunderstood. *drops mic* led me to believe you thought you had it solved. And that Park was clearly going to be good.
  21. I'm not really sure how any of this is relevant. You ignored position and age. Park is going to be able to catch up to a major league fastball, or he isn't. Nishioka has nothing to do with it.
  22. I think this is a make or break year for Rosario in MN
  23. Like playing OF for the 1st time in his baseball life?
  24. Ha I posted nearly the same thing. Twins win bidding for Park. Twins realize they have a logjam. Twins gauge the market for Plouffe, and realize no one wants an avg, getting expensive 3b. Twins panic and move Sano to RF. This has nothing to do with Miguel Sano's ability to play 3b. This has everything to do with short sightedness when it comes to the Park bidding, and what to do from there.
