  1. Then why did the Twins organization say over and over and over again that Miguel Sano would stick at 3b? I'm not making this up, they said this as recently as last summer/fall. Do they need to re-evaluate and make changes to their minor league scounting and coaching staffs? They changed their tune the moment they won the bidding for Park. At the end of the day, this is all about not being able to move Plouffe for what they thought they would be able too.
  2. Keith Law, for one, graded his CF defense as a 55 (above avg) 2 weeks ago. Ok, so we're back to using Hicks as a barometer for any prospect. That will be fun. Why can't we assume an above avg minor league CFer would be a better RFer than a 6'4 270lb 3b? Not sure I can wrap my head around that
  3. Teams would find themselves in quite the pickle if the only way they were able to promote players were once they had outperformed the player they would be replacing. What comes first, the chicken or the egg?
  4. Plouffe is basically the definition of an average defensive 3b, I'm not sure where you get "plus" from. 12th of 20 qualified 3b in Defensive runs above avg. 12th of 20 in UZR/150. From scouting reports I have read, Kepler is more than capable of playing CF in the majors. It's a fair assumption to say he would be a giant improvement in RF over the 6'4" 270lb guy who has never played OF before. Rosario - Buxton - Kepler would potentially be the best defensive OF in baseball, on a team with guys like Phil Hughes who give up an absurd amount of fly balls. I don't play video games, so I'm not sure what you mean by that comment. It is fantasy land to want to improve the OF defense? It is fantasy land to think Max Kepler will be a much better hitter than .308 obp Trevor Plouffe, in a lineup that needs LH bats much more than RH ones?
  5. He was married at the time to a famous Japanese model, I remember reading stories about that at the time, I assume that had a lot to do with it
  6. And the team defense would be much better with a Rosario-Buxton-Kepler OF, Sano 3B then Rosario - Buxton - Sano OF and Plouffe at 3b *For a team that has a few extreme Flyball pitchers
  7. Unless of course Max Kepler is better than Plouffe (which he already is, or will be very soon)
  8. You've gone around in so many circles I have completely lost track of your argument. The Pohlads should save their money for another 2 years. At that time they should invest in the FA market**.. but only if all the prospects develop***. If those prospects don't develop, the Pohlad's should continue to save their money, because we would be beginning year 8 of the rebuild. ** Those FA signings should be for a max of 3 years, as Buxton and Sano will be starting to get expensive after that. *** No Top of the line Free Agent pitchers. There's a good chance that if you give an Ace 6 years, in year 5 and/or 6 the Pohlad's might be paying a pitcher who is no longer an Ace, $20 million Is that the gist of it?
  9. Right, because signing 30 year old #4/5 starters and hoping they become #3 starters is a strategy that has worked so well for them.
  10. Moving the goalposts, once again. You said the Twins were 2-3 years away from being a serious contender so they should do nothing. The Cubs have slightly more young talent than the Twins, but they don't seem to have an issue "going for it" when their guys are 2nd year players? Why is Koskie, Hunter, Jones etc. example relevant, but the Cubs are being dismissed because they lost in the NLCS when Bryant, Schwarber, Russell were rookies?
  11. Ahhh gotcha. So our top 2 guys in the lineup need to be fast, sacrifice bunters.
  12. Take a look at the Cubs roster and get back to me. Loaded with young talent, supplemented the major holes w/ FA signings.
  13. If all it takes to be your perfect 2 hitter is not hitting into DP's and laying down Sac bunts, maybe we should look for a National League pitcher who we could slot into that spot in the lineup?
  14. Jorge Polanco? Isn't it more likely that he could cut it at a position he has been playing for 4 years, than one he has never played? What is the backup plan if he can't handle OF this Spring, send Park to AAA and forget about the "big" FA signing?
  15. Count me in the camp that has completely written off Vargas. So many holes in that swing, reminds me of pitching to a toddler in the backyard, you have to try and throw it at their bat in order for them to make contact.
  16. While I do agree that getting to the playoffs and giving yourself a chance is very important... I don't think you can easily discount the fact that they were getting to the playoffs by winning the worst division in baseball. The starting pitching behind Santana was never "World Series contender" level. Didn't Brian Duensing start Game 1 of one of those playoff series?
  17. This and any move is to win baseball games at the major league level. Not to appease South Korea.
  18. And if Fletcher doesn't get to the playoffs this season, he's probably going to be out of work. If Spielman hadn't found a competent QB 2 years ago, he would've been out work. Terry Ryan has been given a lifetime contract.
  19. You are correct. They went from 5th to 15th in the American League in OBP from 2014 to 2015. .324 to .305
  20. In the 24 seasons since, they have won 1 single 5 game playoff series. In the past 11 seasons they have won 0 playoff GAMES. Forget winning the WS, does that sound better? The only teams to have not won a playoff game in last 11 years; Minnesota Atlanta Seattle Cincinnati San Diego
  21. Yes, I do realize that. His obp skyrocketed to all of .309 last year. I'm sorry, he's not a leadoff hitter. Again, look at his bb%. He's a good SS, he doesn't walk enough to be my leadoff hitter. Hence, why I put Mauer there. I wouldn't bat Rosario or Plouffe leadoff either, I'm not sure why their numbers are relevant to this? Is this the Gardy crowd thinking middle infielders need to be top of the order? I really don't get where the "Escobar should leadoff" crowd is coming from. Him hitting 7th isn't a slight at all
  22. Ha... you are comparing Bautista's breakout in 2010 to Escobar's August/September 2015 where he walked 15 times instead of his normal 7 times over 2 months?
  23. Fair enough. I'm much more concerned about who is hitting 1, than who is hitting 5 would be my counter.
  24. Because a sample of 1,000 is more indicative of future results than a sample of the most recent 50?
  25. Escobar has 6 career stolen bases. I would agree he is faster than Mauer, but is he a better base runner?
