  1. If the Twins bring up Murphy from Rochester, I'm outta here!
  2. When your favorite team has a slow start, everyone has suggestions. Everyone is an expert. Fire Molly, bring up Berrios, bench (take your pick!). It's a long season, and we all need to be patient, right? So it's time for an old fart from SW Minnesota to weigh in. How about giving Mr. Dozier a couple days off, and see what Polanco can do. I know Brian is a fan favorite and one of the team's leaders (?). But his last AB tonight (line out to LF) was, IMO, his best AB in a week. Yes, I know he hit a HR yesterday, but his production- and most of his recent AB's-have been abysmal. For a lead off or number 2 hitter, he doesn't make enough contact to warrant his placement there. It is very discouraging that he refuses to use the whole field, especially in RBI situations. Most of his outs are in the air-infield pop outs or short fly balls, which is what you'd expect for someone trying to hit home runs. Since he is a relatively experienced veteran, I would imagine he is not interested in changing that approach. OK- I get that. But I don't think it would hurt him to sit for a couple days, to try to get his head straight. I would also like to have Molly try him in a different spot in the order, but I have no idea where. Home runs are great, but not so much when you are ahead or behind by 5 runs. Great is hitting a deep fly to the outfield with less than 2 outs! Great is moving runners over in a close game. I think Dozier can be an integral part of the team, but in the end, it is a TEAM game, and eventually everyone needs to be on the same page if you want any success. IMHO!
  3. Seriously, when I saw this, I had to check the date to see if it was April 1. I'd much rather have the Twins finish 0-162 than have something like this happen. It sends a terrible message to the fan base, who right now are more than a little frustrated!
  4. Great reports as usual, Seth! Something wrong with Berrios? When is he pitching?
  5. Buxton looks lost. I know, it's only the first game. I hope I'm wrong. All of Fiens pitches were up-just not a good day for him. May did look good, but the difference in good/ not so good is Chris Davis' rocket that was caught at the fence, with the wind blowing in. Is it just me, but when we really need a professional AB, you can usually trust Suzuki. Jepson was just unlucky- not worried. The Twins might break the Astros record for K's in a season!
  6. I've been a Santana fan for years, and have taken tons of grief from posters on this site. I just could never discount his awesome 2014 season. What happens if he continues to play well? You can't have too many good players! (He had 3 more hits today!) His base running gives the Twins a new dimension. It changed the outcome of today's game!
  7. I guess it doesn't make any difference, but it seems to me that Nolasco appears to be arrogant, not a team oriented guy. In post games interviews, he has seemed disinterested and put off. Anybody heard on what type of team mate he is? He seems out of place in Minnesota.
  8. I'll take the field for $1,000,00 please, Alex!
  9. I wonder what will happen if he starts to miss multiple games because of "nagging" injuries. Peer pressure might be the only thing to get his attention if his absence from the lineup really starts hurting the team.
  10. I can't believe the number of posters that want to throw Santana under the bus. The history of baseball is littered with successful players who struggled early in their careers. Santana's success in 2014 didn't happen in a vacuum. You aren't lucky to hit .319 for the year, despite what naysayers want to say about is inflated BABIP. I'm not saying he will turn out like Big Papi, but give the kid a chance. I'd hate to see him be the starting SS for 10 years with another team!
  11. Thank you! It was a simple hypothetical to get the opinions of the readers of TD.
  12. Great, great recap, Seth. I was recording the game, and my watching is only in the 5th inning. Too much pressure for an old guy!!
  13. That just sucks! I'm going to do the smart thing-do myself a favor- and not say anything more.
  14. I don't believe Danny Santana's chance is gone. He'd have to take it away from Escobar, but he's way to young and athletic to right him off.
  15. The Twins face 3 tough lefties in the upcoming Chicago series. I would guess that means Robinson gets another start in LF for Rosario. I wouldn't mind Joe sitting against Sale (at least), and having Vargus DH with Sano at 3rd and Plouffe at 1B. Too bad we don't have a power hitting right handed hitter on the bench the next 3 days (Pinto). Don't know if the Twins are being frugal on just plain stupid!
  16. Danny Santana deserves to come up. He lost a year of development when he played CF and did very well (.319) last year. He had a disappointing early season, but he still has a chance to be in the picture in 2016. Not calling him up now would send a bad message to Santana and the Twins faithful who still believe in him.
  17. Fabulous article, Seth. My two cents worth is that if Berrios really pitches tomorrow, the Twins will not call him up. They are concerned about his innings, and if he is used tomorrow, I think they will let him have one more start at Rochester, then rest him the remainder of the year. Really love that kid, though. He, Sano, Buxton, Rosario, and Kepler are the faces of the future.
  18. Please don't misquote me. I didn't say the Twins had the worst roster in the history of baseball. I said "roster construction." There is a LITTLE difference! Having 4- left handed relievers on your staff in this crucial part of the season (well actually anytime!) doesn't make a whole lot of sense.I kinda like their roster, actually. But it's safe to assume our boys lost the last game to the Yanks and ARod because we had to use Graham and O'Rourke in that 9th inning. Do you think Mr. Molitor has any confidence in O'Rourke? That Yankee game was the last time Molly used him. I don't mind when you disagree with me, but please don't change my words around to make me look stupid. I can do that by myself!
  19. I really can't figure out TR and our front office personal. Are they trying to set the Twins up to "go for it (wildcard)",or don't they really care one way or another. For example, their 3 game series with the formidable Astro might determine which direction the Twins take for the rest of the year, My guesses to what TR is thinking tonight before the huge Astro series this weekend. 1. The series will be sold out-more money for the Pohlads, 2. We always lose these defining games because the astro players have more big time expirience, they don't.get rattled if they get down early, cause their studs always come through in the clutch. For example, when one of their better player comes up in the later innings, the Twins will go at him with a group of secondary relievers. Each of the 25 men on the Astro roster excels at something that can turn a close game around, the Twins just the opposite.. 3. The Twins roster construction. Is the worst in the history of baseball!. 4 left handed relievers? You must be sh^*ing me! 4. The Twins have several players in Triple AAA who could contribute in the hitting and pitching area if they were with the club. But I am assuming Terry and the boys are waiting for September 1 to arrive, so they can expand the rosters. It would make sense to most of us that those crucial moves should be made before the first game of this huge series. Any thoughts?
  20. The Twins need to decide if they are going to "go for it (wildcard)", or not. Their roster construction is crazy bad. 4 left handed relievers? Come on! I can hear it now: they are going to wait til the rosters expand. Meanwhile, what about the 3 games against the Astros? The FO 's message to the fans in certainly confusing, to say it nicely. (This gives me an idea for a new thread!)
  21. Hey, I love ya Dave, but I thought it was a correct move. I actually thought Molitor had a lot of guts to try that, knowing he would be second guessed. It didn't work. Next.....I agree that Buxton has a ways to go to be considered a major league hitter. He will get there, but he isn't close right now. Several posters have commented he looked lost on a 90 mph fastball, down the middle with no movement. Anybody who has played the game will tell you some days the ball looks like a pea, and some days like a basketball. It happens. Byron needs lots of AB's at the major league level to learn to be the player everyone of us wishes for. IMHO he just hasn't seen enough quality pitching to be successful right now.
  22. Yes, and then what happens to the two teams that lose those playoffs games? Would they then be eliminated since they would have one more loss than the other five teams? That doesn't sound fair, IMHO.It seems to me that you would now need a six team playoff to produce the wild card and the second wild card. Team A would play Team B, Team C would play Team D, and Team E would play Team F. With 3 winners, I don't know where to go from this. Any ideas? Sounds like a job for Parker.
