  1. I am not sure that you couldn't roll with Martin for a game or two if needed. If Lee goes down with an injury then you call up Fitzgerald. I would rather have 13 guys on the roster that are going to be used than 11.
  2. I have seen him behind the plate and he missed a pitch and almost broke the umpire's arm. I have seen this at the youth level but not in the major leagues. And it was not a mix up of the signs, he just missed catching the pitch.
  3. If they are not comfortable with a third string catcher then send him down. It only happens once or twice a year in all of baseball that you need a third catcher.
  4. But he does have options to play other than Gasper, so some of this is on him.
  5. What is this obsession with Gasper. In no world should he be playing all 3 games of a series much less catching. Why even call up Pereda if you aren't going to play him. This roster mismanagement is so frustrating, at least play guys who might be on the roster next year.
  6. Gasper utilized the one skill he possesses, good for him.
  7. Pereda is the 3rd catcher according to Rocco last night. Which I don't understand why he would be here then.
  8. I don't hate Gasper, it is more a reflection of Falvey that he is on the roster. According to the broadcast last night, Rocco said that Gasper is the backup catcher. So why call up Pereda if that is the case, that is roster mismanagement. Tonight you have 3 options to play 1B, Clemens is in the outfield, so it is either Julien or Gasper. Julien has a better chance to be on the team next year, that should be the criteria for playing time for this year. Gasper can not hit major league pitching.
  9. Neither of them can play first adequately, they both have gloves of stone. And Gasper can't play catcher either.
  10. Julien has a higher chance than Gasper of being on the team next year. It may be low but I would still rather see him than Gasper if that is the options. Gasper has no business being in the major leagues.
  11. Did I seriously hear Provus correctly and Gasper is the number 2 catcher. So then explain why is Pereda up here, why not call up another bat or Eeles. What is the plan for this team by the front office. Gasper shouldn't even be up here and he certainly shouldn't be catching. So now we have two catchers who can't hit.
  12. Remember it was the same reporting on Buxton before he went on the IL. I hope I am wrong but I just don't know what to believe when Rocco says anything.
  13. I hope so, but I have a feeling he will wind up on the IL after the Royals series. This is kind of how they operate.
  14. Rocco said pre game he still can't do all baseball activities. He needs to be 100%. Rocco did his usual word salad as to when to expect him. My guess would be it could be another week.
  15. At least Provus explained why Gasper is in the lineup. But it stills shows Rocco's overreliance on analytics. He wanted more lefties in against Lugo. That works as long as you have all quality LH hitters, Gasper is not it. And Martin is a better option despite the side of the plate he hits from. Kind of says all you need to know about where the team is right now but Gasper should only be in there when everyone is injured.
  16. I am not sure Roden is any better, he has only played a handful of games there in the minors. But I agree we need Buxton out there.
  17. Why is Gasper DH when you can put Martin in the outfield and DH Wallner.
  18. I am more curious why Roden is in CF.
  19. The Twins just told us what they think of Gasper, he is not a catcher. So he has no position and can't hit. What is he doing on the roster.
  20. We have seen what Gasper has and it is clear he doesn't belong up here. And remember the last time he caught he almost broke an umpire's arm when he missed a pitch.
  21. I appreciate the outside of the box thinking this article proposes, I suppose it is a good idea if only for this season. I am not sure they would stop there once they start. They are already doing this in the minors, I think more than we realize. Looking at the box scores daily, most pitchers are going 3 to 5 innings and throwing 60 to 70 pitches. Is it becoming a self fulfilling prophecy that they can't become starter because they are not being developed as starters. This concept may work in the minors where development is the priority. But what do you do when Judge comes up in the 7th with the bases loaded and up by 2 runs, are you going to leave your second piggyback pitcher in who has only thrown an inning plus or go to a high leverage reliever. My point is that in the final three innings it will be tough not to go more matchup based rather than leaving basically your 4th or 5th starter out there. The other point is casual fans don't necessarily like seeing 3 to 5 pitchers in a game, it slows the game down, they don't know the back end of the roster players and it is not always enjoyable experience for them. I realize this is a baseball issue and not just the Twins. But I don't believe in just developing throwers and I do hope it swings back to where pitchers are actually being developed to pitch.
  22. September call ups will have minimal impact for the Twins with the new rules. You can only add two players with no more than one being a pitcher. And I am sure they will continue to audition pitchers so one of the call ups will be a pitcher. So it will be difficult to bring anyone additional up to get a real look. Maybe a week or so for a couple of guys but that would be about all you can expect.
  23. That's his one pitch just like Tommy Kahnle. He needs to learn how to spot it or he will not be around. I am neutral on him but that is the reality of who he is.
  24. Davis is not a major league pitcher, get him off the roster.
  25. Fitzgerald is here to stay because there is no other backup SS.
