    Gutsy outing by Ober, still gave us 6 innings and saved the bullpen. If the offense had done it's job you could say he actually kept us in the game after the 2nd inning.

    I am sorry Kreidler is not a starting shortstop in the major leagues, a utility guy yes. Even the Twins wouldn't start him there until Gray became unplayable. Edit: Added Kreidler

    This is why I do believe that the analytics staff does have input into the lineups, too many similarities in lineup construction between Rocco and Shelty. And actually I think Shelty was a little less rigid early in the season and then it seemed to change. I have not studied it, but it felt that way.

    Appreciate the comments and I agree the coaching has improved. But I still think there is an organizational culture that Falvey set that I don't think will change unless someone else is in charge other than Zoll. I know there are some positives that he has done, but reality says they have basically been a .500 team over the last 10 years. Shelty can only do so much if the player development is lacking or if the players he is given are not quality players. I still think they are too analytic driven, rather than using it as a tool. And maybe someone comes in and nothing changes as well, but it just feels the organization is a little stale. And I would like to see Shelty get more help from the front office.

    If he is up here, he should not be platooned. Maybe a tougher pitcher like Skubal you sit for but I would absolutely play him against Cameron.

    We aren't going agree on this, I remember his comments. But I think there is more going than we are aware and that is why I pointed to other examples. He actually went to his leg kick after talking to his dad and agent, to me that is what he was comfortable but I am assuming the Twins were trying something different. Again both you and I don't know what is going on in the clubhouse and the field before games but if I was Tom P. I would want to know if there is a disconnect somewhere. Because it is not just about Lewis.

    I wouldn't minded seeing Martin in there again tonight. He hasn't been hitting righties well but it would be nice to see if there is some momentum from last night. They get too stuck on the lefty righty matchups. There is a time and place but it doesn't have to be so rigid.

    I think there is a fine line between tweaking someone's batting approach vs. completely changing it. And we have heard Martin and Lee voice the same concerns that they went back to what worked for them. This actually goes all the way back to Buxton, his first few years, he was constantly changing his stance and he was not always on board with what the Twins wanted him to do. Now I don't have the technical expertise or enough information to know how much of this is a player not wanting to change or is the team not always doing the best for the player and more worried about the system or process. This is one reason though I think they need new leadership at least above Zoll in the baseball operations and do a critical evaluation of how they are developing their players, training and everything in between. I do have concerns there may be group think going on with basically the same group in place for the last 10 years. It never hurts to have a critical evaluation and improve if needed.

    You are absolutely correct about being a high pick and the scrutiny that comes with it. But it feels different to me with Lewis, but I will admit I am a believer in him so I do pick up on it. It is more the doomsday comments after one at bat that probably frustrate me the most. I don't see that as much with Lee and Buxton.

    I agree with everything you said. My negativity is when people fall in love with the 13th man on the roster. Yes they have a role and there are going to be times they will contribute to a win. But you are going to win consistently with players like Keaschall and Lewis. The other comment about Lewis, they gave a fun fact at a game I was at earlier in the year, he played in two showcase all star games before he was drafted and was named MVP of both games. It's not that he was named MVP, but he showed up big in that environment, he has an it factor about him. That is why I want him to be successful because other than Buxton no one else has that on this team.

    He needs to be given one position and right now it should be 1B or else move him back to third. He is not a utility player.

    I am not sure if anyone gets as much scrutiny from at bat to at bat as Royce. I get that he has struggled and made comments that I wish he would have kept to himself. And I am still a believer in him, and as the article states he is one of the few players on this team that can take a game over by himself. I would hope we would want somebody like that on our team. If he can put some consistency together, he will be a contributor and maybe more on a winning team. But it feels almost like people are waiting for him to fail. On the game thread on Sunday, one at bat, he actually had timed up a couple of fastballs from Mis, so Mis threw his first slider and it was a filthy pitch to strike him out. I am not sure many hitters could have laid off that pitch. The comments that Mis broke him or that he was back to his old habits were not reasonable in my opinion. Even last night his first two at bat's he didn't look good, and the comments came again the Mis has broken him. The last two at bats he looked better.. I know everyone has their opinion and it is not wrong. But I would urge to give him some credit. he has been one of our best hitters the last two months and has had a key at bat in many of our recent wins.

    His plate discipline has looked better since coming back. June and July was just over 2 to 1 K/BB. The last 4 games he has struggled, of course one was against the Mis who makes many struggle. I was encouraged last night, his first two at bats did not look good, but his last two, he looked like he was tracking the ball better and taking better swings. It seemed like he was making some in game adjustments which he hasn't always done.

    If we had a major league caliber both offensively and defensively shortstop it would be easier and he wouldn't have been called up. But we don't have that, so he is here.

    I do have a feeling that they will be DH'ing Buxton at least once a week when he comes back. I suspect they will do some sort of load management with him, so that could open up a couple of days in the OF. I am ready to move on from Roden but that is me, I think Jenkins could equal his production and probably be better on defense. But your points are all fair. I just want to improve the roster, raise the floor would be nice for a change.

    An additional point, in late May there were only 5 teams that carried 3 catchers, it is hard to do with only 13 position players. And the chances that you need an emergency catcher are very small, that is why most teams take the risk and do not carry three catchers.

    They have used Jeffers as a pinch hitter twice since he came off the IL in early July. And both times they moved Caratini to 1B, negating the need for a third catcher.

    I think there is value for him to be here this year, I think he can contribute at some level and starting the learning curve is never a bad thing. But I understand others want to wait.

    Then I still am in favor of Jackson, I would take the risk of not having a third catcher for the rest of the season. And reset the position in the offseason. They are not using him, it is not a good situation to only use a player twice in 10 days as a pinch runner.
