  1. I like all 3 the same. Is that an ok opinion?
  2. Say what you will about Knobby. I have good memories about his compete level and intensity during his time with the Twins. Sure the kid has had his issues during and after is Twins days. But, I find it hard to forget the good memories he gave me. We all have our problems. Myself included. I wish him the best.
  3. I struggle with this too.
  4. When I look at Alex Meyer I see a guy who is much taller than the guys that are shorter than him. I also see a guy that throws faster than the guys who don't throw as fast as him. When he reaches the majors, and I hope it's sooner than later, I hope he wins more games than the guys that don't win as much as him. I predict there will be a lot of them.
  5. I would also be there regularly to watch this team!
  6. I get what you're trying to say here. Walks are just one factor. If he gets through the first 5 innings of the game and each inning strikes out 2, walks 1 and gets a guy to ground out, he would have a good performance in spite of a high walk rate per 9 innings. Randy Johnson I believe had a fairly high walk rate at times but few would argue that he was an effective pitcher. At the end of the day it comes down to how well he manages those base runners and if they score or get stranded or get erased in a double play. At any rate, I'm of the opinion that calling him up sooner than later is better. It sounds like that is your opinion as well. I have said in the past that I wish the Twins were maybe 10-15% more aggressive in bumping players up a level and challenging them rather than requiring a perfect storm of statistics to do so. Not saying they don't factor other things in. It's just the general impression I have gotten over the years. Having said that, there are people who are a lot smarter than me making these decisions and they see these guys on a daily basis.
  7. I think Burdi will breeze through AA and a month in to the season get called up. By midseason fans will be wanting him to close and Perkins to set up. It wouldn't be the first time I have been wrong though.
  8. I would like to see Meyer work those control issues out as the Twins 5th starter. In the beginning I'm sure he will struggle to keep his pitch count down. If he gets us through 5 innings or so and walks a few along the way, I still think he can keep the runs allowed number low. Getting 5-6 innings from a 5th starter while limiting runs against would put him miles ahead of Nolasco. Also, I would start Nolasco in AAA and make May the 3rd starter and put Gibson 4th so that the first time through the rotation May gets the 3rd game of the first series and Gibson gets the first game of the second series. I'm not a believer in the Nolaco/Milone resurrection and I don't feel like waiting for the perfect storm to get May and Meyer in there.
  9. A lot of this stuff seems to work itself out in spring training. Somebody is going to tweak a hammy and go on the DL for a week or two. Somebody is going to be just horrible. Somebody will be the real deal etc....etc.... Personally, I think they will go with Milone as the 5th starter in the beginning. Pelfrey has too much to prove to start off at anything other than AAA IMO. I would like to see him convert to reliever in AAA considering his durability issues. Perhaps he could emerge as a decent reliever in time. I suspect either Milone or Nolasco will flop and May will replace one of them 1 month in to the season. May and Meyer will likely begin at AAA and remain in a starting role as opposed to moving to the pen in the majors. Not saying this is what I want to happen. Just sayin I think it's a reasonable prediction of what might happen.
  10. That was my understanding too.
  11. Maybe part of the issue could be that pitchers have been able to nibble away at the strike zone a little more because he hasn't had a big bopper behind him that they don't want to pitch to. aka: a guy to protect him in the order. The concussion's effect to his central nervous system is likely an issue too. The one thing I notice - he always seems to contribute even when he is not hitting well because he seems to make the other team's pitcher throw a lot of pitches to get through his at bat. Perhaps this is one factor as to why they do better with him in the lineup. Even if he isn't driving in runs himself, he is driving the pitch count up. I look for him to add 10-15 points to his batting average this year due to being another year removed from concussion. Add more points to his batting average as those surrounding him in the batting order become more menacing to opposing pitchers and maybe he gets back to the .300 - .315 range. Same goes for the "team effect." The team has been pretty down these past few years and that no doubt has pulled him down a bit too. If the team does a little better then I think that also helps his average.
  12. I pick Vargas as my hitter and Gibson as my pitcher. Vargas rocks 28 bombs and 85 rbi. Gibson goes 15-7 with better consistency.
  13. There is no such thing as this official baseball term that you use, "blocked." Every time you use it I burst out laughing.
  14. Agreed. Bring on Buxton. Pretty sure he is better in center defensively than Hicks or Santana. I bet he can bat .215 or better to!! LOL......kidding.
  15. You have me curious. Hit me with the comparison between Hicks and Escobar in this scenario. Even if it makes me look stupid
  16. I don't view Santana as a long term solution in CF. I'm just saying to start the season there with Escobar at short. That changes based on performance and who evolves and who regresses etc. I get it, Santana "might" regress. Escobar "may have" played beyond the level that he will play at long term. Also, Hicks "might" evolve in to a solid major league outfielder. To me, Escobar "did" produce more in 2014. So, if only for the first month or so of the season, it makes sense to put the two best performers out there and go with your best 9 players. It also sends a positive message in the clubhouse.
  17. What ever happens, it's going to be an interesting season. It will be fun to see it all play out. I would rather see Escobar step to the plate with runners on first and second and no outs. I feel more confident in his ability to at the very least advance the runners and have a productive at bat at this moment in time. Hopefully, if Hicks gets the nod and Santana plays short, Hicks will surprise me.
  18. The "will" and the "should" to me are two separate things. Escobar is 26 and batted 60 points higher than Hicks who is 25. Both of them are prospects and similar in age But, not similar in intangibles or results. So, I would have to disagree with the "should" part of it and perhaps replace that word with "might." Hicks is far from a sure fire prospect and certainly not worthy of taking 50 batting average points out of the lineup. He might end up being a good player. But, I say let him get there in AAA first while putting your best 9 on the field every day on the big club. Just one man's opinion though.
  19. I predict Vargas will be really good this year and amazing in years to follow. I'm very high on him.
  20. Not just chemistry. Also, a balanced breakfast including juice, toast, milk and delicious Trix cereal!!
  21. I like this post. My favorite part is "Take the best 25 north out of spring training and play the best 9 most of the time." Consistency with the starting lineup IMHO is a good thing. In recent years I could hear circus music playing in my head as the announcers rolled out today's lineup and batting order. I also do not agree that in the last game of a series the manager is doing a good thing by "emptying the bench" and "getting them all in there" as has been the case under recent management. I also very much agree with your comments about a winning attitude and chemistry.
  22. Escobar .275 + Santana .319 = 594 Santana .319 + Hicks .215 = 534 Santana + Escobar = good hustle, work ethic, defense, base running My vote is Escobar SS, Santana CF, Hicks AAA = best starting point to the season and then go from there based on Hicks being Hicks or Hicks developing.
  23. The offense was decent and should be the same or even a little better this year. I could see the defense being slightly better, but not vastly better. I am optimistic that the pitching rotation can be a bit more stable this year and thus keep the heat off of the bullpen. This should yield dividends for the offense as well because they won't have to come from behind as much. The pen appears to be a bit up in the air with quite a few good options competing for spots. The new coaching staff seems like they could be good. We have some good prospects nearing or at being ready. My guess is that they pick up 8 more wins based on these things and finish 78-84 and avoid another 90 loss season.
  24. Maybe they are thinking that Escobar at short and Santana in center is a decent starting point for the season and then go from there when Buxton or Rosario is ready. Both Escobar and Santana seem to be in our top 9 players from last year. If Escobar continues to impress as he did last year, by the time the trade deadline came he could be considered another teams starting shortstop in a trade. We slide Buxton/Rosario to center and Santana to SS and away we go. If Escobar is in a utility role to start the season, maybe he doesn't get the chance to appear to be the real deal for other teams. Just a thought.
