  1. the 2005 championship series where he reaches on a "dropped" third strike comes to mind. ol' aj kinda nonchalants it a couple steps toward the dugout until the catcher rolls the ball to the mound and the players are mostly off the field. then he hightails it to first.
  2. ever read any dirk hayhurst books? worthwhile.
  3. well, your post claimed that bryant's war shows him to be the 20th best player. if you don't want "every thread" to turn into a war debate i've got a simple solution: don't use war!
  4. my question was sincere. one magic formula says Bryant is the 20th best player and another magic formula says Bryant is the 55th best. that's a pretty big difference. if the discrepancy can't be explained beyond saying "they're different magic formulas," well, as the song goes: war -- what is it good for? and i think i know the answer. apparently, there is no explanation. war is a magic formula that we're just supposed to take at face value. and if one says what we want to hear, we should use that one and ignore the other one. pay no attention to the man behind the curtain ...
  5. looks to me like bryant is 20th in WAR at fangraphs and 55th at espn. if so, can someone please explain how WAR is meaningful in any way? or am i missing something?
  6. this year's twins could use the 22-year-old tommy "the blade" hall, a seriously lanky lefty listed as 6 feet, 150 pounds. check out the 1970 digits: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hallto01.shtml
  7. from earlier this month: Hunter is worthless, time to put his old ass on waivers and call up arcia or buxton
  8. i'm pretty sure somebody put the fork back in over the weekend. smart move.
  9. at least the game won't end with joe mauer hitting into a dp ...
  10. but six hits in 17-2/3 innings will work!
  11. five hits in 17 innings don't cut it.
  12. i wonder if trevor plouffe has heard of wally pipp.
  13. ya know, even amid this rough patch, there have been some impressive comebacks. these twins still have pluck.
  14. maybe the twins can swing a trade for florimon and guerra before the pirates leave town.
  15. yikes -- last time i looked, which wasn't that long ago, twins were up 3-1. well, at least they might get a chance to see deolis ...
  16. interesting but i'm curious: did you miss the spicy twins daily debate on this exact topic?
  17. it'll be amusing if reyes outperforms tulo for the rest of 2015.
  18. by the way, and although i'm well aware that mine is pretty much a losing argument, it's worth noting that tovar finished in the top 25 mvp vote five times (including a #7); knoblauch did so three times (never better than #16).
  19. i'd put tovar ahead of knoblauch just because. and, if pressed, i'd say his defensive versatility more than compensates for his notch-lower hitting numbers.
  20. twins better start working some counts or they're gonna see a lot more of mr. eovaldi today.
  21. from the pitch tracker i'm watching, looks like sano never saw a fastball.
