    When a pitcher opens a game on the mound, that pitcher is starting. If the pitcher takes the place of another pitcher in the middle of the game, that pitcher is said to have relieved the other pitcher, making him a reliever. Mr. Gant was doing the latter with the Cardinals, as well as his first few outings as a Twin. Now he is doing the former. Does that help?

    AL Wild Card elimination numbers are off as stated on MLB's standings, They are calculated based on Boston's win total because NY is half a game ahead of Boston. But NY has few wins, so they should be using NY's win total. It reassures me to know we have a slightly better chance than they say we do of earning a wild card spot.

    What was wrong with it? I got back to watching during the long discussion after run 3 came across on a balk. And i couldn't tell what had been called, and heard this was the second time that had happened.
