  1. To your point Jaleel, if the coaching is to blame for Buxton and Sano, then how do you explain the successes of Rosario, Kepler (hitting lefties well), Escobar? I'm not at all convinced that this is a coaching issue. At some point, the players have to put on their man pants and play like men and own up to the fact that professional athletes need to take care of their bodies and perform in order to remain professional athletes. If I'm a carpenter and I keep hitting my hand with a hammer, I either need to change professions or get better with a hammer. If you're a professional baseball player and you are doing things off the field that affect your play on the field, you need to either find another profession, or stop doing the things that are affecting your play on the field.
  2. Why do people keep saying the Polanco will hit when he gets back or even be an upgrade? Polanco's numbers may be entirely linked to PED's! We don't know. So, making an assumption that he will hit or play well is a really bold assumption.
  3. My guess is that the pitchers prefer Wilson...but that's just a guess.
  4. It really was a joy to watch him pitch in his one untouchable season. Good luck you you Phil!
  5. "The ball is really coming out of his hand nice."....I believe he said that after watching 50 cent throw out the first pitch.
  6. I don't know that anyone could get tossed like Lou P. When he got tossed, he did it with style.
  7. I ended up watching the game while I was working. Had it on first in the background and then got hooked. I'll say this. Molly gets criticized a lot for his lineups and decisions, but he coached a great game last night.
  8. I watched the first part of the game and I was very confused by the strike zone. Berrios went 3-0 on Trout and put one right down the heart of the plate at the knees that was called a ball. To his credit, he smiled. There were a number of calls (against both teams) where it was obvious that it was a strike, but were called balls...then Morrison gets a fastball 6 inches outside that was called a strike. It was crazy. I think Esco went up to the plate and just hacked at everything because you couldn't take a 0-2 pitch with any confidence that it would be called correctly.
  9. It's my fault...I'd just like to get that out of the way. Early on, in spring training, I said that the Angels were a train wreck. I based that on two things - Albert Pujols (if you pay him that much, you gotta play him) and Ohtani (who was struggling and looked overmatched in spring training). Now, I'm afraid, that this declaration of ineptitude will come back to bite me and my Minnesota Twins right in the buttocks. I'd just like to say that I am still not sold on the Angels as they have benefited from a weak schedule, but they have done what they were supposed to do with weaker opponents in contrast to our Twins (remember Tampa Bay?...Cincinatti?...yeah, I know). So, if our Twins do not have a favorable outcome in this series, it is my fault for bad mouthing the Angels early on.
  10. Great question. I think it will depend on the division actually. For example, if you were the GM of a team in the AL East, what kind of a pitching staff would you assemble to win the division? If you need to beat the Yankees and the Red Sox, you need sinker ballers with great infielders to keep the ball in the park and off the wall. Divisions with bigger ball parks would be able to have more fly ball pitchers with a speedy outfield. The smaller the ball park, the less important speed in the outfield is and sacrificing speed for a little more pop becomes an option...aka Willinghammer outfield. Just my 2 pennies.
  11. I'm cautiously optimistic. The league will adapt to him and analyze him and the big league hitters will start looking for certain pitches in certain situations. I like him a lot, but I'll temper my enthusiasm for now.
  12. Even if I were a Yankees fan, I'm not sure I could stomach hearing that voice every day.
  13. So I thought I would dip my toe back into baseball by watching some MLB network. High Heat was on. I have to ask the question why Chris Russo isn't on the YES network? Kind of obvious that he really only wants to talk about the Yankees. I just found him annoying. I can't be the only one.
  14. I'll be watching from afar...kind of like being on the rooftops watching the Cubs with a cold beer. After all, we are playing like the Cubs of old. Gladden sounds more like Harry Caray every day!
  15. I tuned in when it was 5-1. Saw Palka hit the dinger and knew we were in trouble. Looked at the score this morning and realized that I am a better and much happier man when I don't watch the Twins. They say ignorance is bliss and I'm pretty blissful when I don't watch the Twins lately. I know it's only the beginning of May, but this is really starting to feel like a lost season. If the Twins scratch their way back up to .500, I'll start tuning in again. Before the season, I questioned why Grossman would be kept on the team. We have a DH, we have guys that can run, there were other options for the OF that were much better. When they kept him, I scratched my head and figured he wouldn't see much time on the field, but might take some quality AB's. Those quality AB's have added up to a .185 average with a .554 OPS. Numbers don't lie and when you aren't adding value to the team either offensively or defensively....just sayin'.
  16. What I'm trying to figure out is if we've hit the perfect storm (no pun intended given the spring weather) or whether there is one thing that needs to be addressed. We've had to deal with injuries (Buxton is a key piece of the puzzle), weather (no denying that it was disruptive to practice), poor pitching (either from the starter, the bullpen, or both), bad defense (errors and lack of execution of the basics), bad luck (right now, the borderline calls aren't going our way). Is it just a combination of all of the above? or is it something much bigger? Teamwork is a funny thing. I've watched basketball teams swap out one player for another and you would swear the entire team was swapped out. Teamwork went out the window and the "me first" attitude took over the team. Are the Twins in a similar situation? I'd be curious what the clubhouse chemistry is.
  17. 9-15 is bad, but what compounded it was that we went 4-6 against teams with losing records. Not just losing records but horrible records. Some of the worst records in baseball. That's alarming to me. When you have a losing record against a number of teams with losing records, you're not good. Period. Numbers don't lie. Records don't lie. If we had gone 7-3 against those teams, we'd be 12-12...but we didn't and those games count in September. The reality is that this is a talented but bad baseball team and our record shows that. Can we turn it around? I believe the month of May will be the key month in this season.
  18. Whooo baby! We've lost 10 of our last 12. To put it in perspective, how often do the Twins sweep another team? Not often. Just to offset this swoon, we would have to win 10 of 12. In order to do that, we would have to sweep two series (3 games), and win 2 of 3 of two more series. During the course of a baseball season, we can do that. We don't have to go on a streak right now. What we need to do right now, is start playing .500 baseball. Stabilize the rocking ship, then put it into gear. All is not lost...yet.
  19. Did I say 71? Make that 73. More that 9 per game. Ugh! Unwatchable at this point.
  20. Trevor Hangingcurver for what I hope will be his last appearance of the year.
  21. Every team with a bad record is hoping to play the Twins soon.
  22. During this 8 game losing streak, the Twins have given up 71 runs. 71! That's almost 9 a game. Go ahead and score 8 boys. We are still gonna lose more than we win giving up that many runs. Plus, when you lose 8 in a row, to make that up, you either have to win 8 in a row or win 28 of your next 40 or something like that.
  23. Castro vs. sinker baller had DP written all over it.
  24. As expected, Hughes was not good? Any chance we see Romero any time soon?
