  1. Pretty disappointing game all around ... Slegers earned another look, IMO, and I've been rooting for him. His stuff has little margin for error, so when a team knows his turn is coming up, this is the result. That relief showing and the Baltimore game kind of gave him a chance to catch teams by surprise. It's too bad, because I was hoping he could figure it out. He's been in the org for a long time and had success all the way up, but I guess that's where the AAAA reference comes into play.
  2. That's certainly the most efficient approach, but I can't ever get on board with it. I'd rather watch two more months of Dozier than two months of Gordon making mistakes in the field and playing 56 wRC+ ball just to get his feet wet. Unless, of course, I'm getting a return with a better than average chance of impacting the big club.
  3. Unless that best offer is organizational filler that won't even be in the system in a year ... In that case, pass. I'd rather watch him play for two more months.
  4. The buyer is the one trying to add pieces for a deep playoff run, so that automatically puts the seller on the higher ground. The Twins don't have a need to trade Dozier. They are the ones that have to evaluate if the the returned player is worth parting with a fan favorite (down year or not) to improve the system long term. If teams aren't lining up for Dozier, it doesn't hurt them to just let him play out the year.
  5. If the Dodgers offer Will Smith, then the Twins should start to listen. I saw some comments about Yadier Alvarez on MBLTradeRumors, but he looks like a project at 22 and hasn't pitched many innings this season.
  6. The Twins definitely shouldn't mail it in and "take what they can get" for their pending FA's and desirable controllable vets at this point, but I think they should be in sell mode as far as fielding offers and working deals that will improve the system long term. Win now type deals should go by the wayside, IMO, but I'd rather watch a few extra weeks of Dozier, Escobar or Rodney types than let them go for organizational filler that is unlikely to make an impact, just to say they got something (e.g. Pat Light, Alex Presley). With many winnable games on paper left to play, I'd rather watch them win, even though I know it isn't going to result in a playoff berth. Competitive baseball is always more fun than a 5-23 September, unless you went into it expecting a full rebuild year. However, if let's say - hypothetically - a player like Will Smith, C, Dodgers (#9) could be aquired in a deadline deal and added to the lacking depth at catcher this organization has, than I think those types of deals need to be made.
  7. I like Realmuto and have a Marlins-fan brother who hopes he's the one guy that Jeter holds on to as the veteran leader of that club long term. With that said, I wouldn't sell the farm for him, and I certainly wouldn't dangle Romero, Graterol and, to a slightly lesser degree, Thorpe to land him. Lewis appears to be a face-of-the-franchise-type talent, but I loathe the day that the Twins have to deal with Boras to keep him around. I still probably wouldn't trade him. If I wanted to make an attempt at Realmuto, knowing I may have to walk away, I'd start with (#2) Gordon, (#3) Kirilloff and (#4) Gonsalves, then I'd be willing to part with one of Diaz, Wade, Blankenhorn or Baddoo to bring it together or possibly bring back a useful bullpen arm. If that didn't do it, and it very well may not, I walk away. "Berrios/Romero/Gibson/Thorpe/Slegers 2020" w/ Littell providing rotation depth, LeBlanc getting those cup-of-coffee spot starts and Graterol/Wells knocking at the door for their shot at the show.
  8. A little off-topic, but, I noticed that CR now has 7 active starters and just 6 active relievers. I wonder who gets moved to the pen. Will they actually rotate 7 starters?
  9. Great article, thanks! I'll be to my second round of Kernel games this weekend. Luckily, I saw Kirilloff, Graterol, Rortvedt and now Gore the first time down. Dobnak came in and did a fine job relieving a short start by Enlow when I was there, and now he's in the rotation and seems to go deep every time (which he just did again today). It's great to read about these young players and the path they have taken.
  10. If he loves the game and his family is cool with it, why? He's already made enough money (about $20M per Baseball Reference) to live comfortably for the rest of his life (unless he's been dumb with money, which he doesn't strike me as that type).
  11. Good to see Ober dominate and have good luck ... His peripherals are lights out, but that 351 BABIP against has his ERA almost 2 points higher than xFIP ... If that BABIP normalizes and he continues with numbers like a 9/1 K/BB Rate, he'll be climbing the prospect list by season's end.
  12. G-Cinco should change to 0-Cinco, since that's a common box score for Gordon. 586 OPS at AAA. Twins should have traded him during that 906 abberation at AA.
  13. With Nick Gordon petering out at AAA, Fernando Romero likely soon to lose his prospect status and Gonsalves still dealing with command issues, Kirilloff has to be the #2 prospect pretty soon.
  14. @ launching threes ... What I'm saying is that getting rid of your best pitchers and being satisfied with the performance Lynn is delivering so far is not going to lead to having a good staff.
  15. The Twins have $0 in payroll for 2020. Now that locking up Buxton and Sano won't be necessary that soon, if at all, Gibby should be one that sticks around.
  16. So Lance Lynn was worth the wait and the Twins should trade their most consistent pitcher ... This sounds like the preface to a book called "How Not to Build a Pitching Staff."
  17. Good to see Garver break out a bit. He had a terrible May while initially adjusting to being "the guy", even though it's been more of a split. The Twins have issues behind the plate, so it would be good to see Garver get a larger workload in the second half and get a larger sample-size evaluation. Wilson isn't a long term option. Astudillo has a very intriguing bat, but seeing him behind the plate much will surprise me. Rupp is striking out 40% at AAA. I'd give Garver anywhere from 55-60 of the remaining starts at catcher, and go from there. Considering the current state of affairs, I was hopeful that the Twins could land a top 10 organization prospect who is also a catcher from one of the contending teams. However, I'm not sure if anyone other than Escobar (who I don't think should be moved) will net something like that.
  18. It's amazing what some people allow to pass as "artistic creativity" these days. My guess is that the early unreleased work of Mary Barnes is Gordon's biggest influence.
  19. Tell him to flush the lame rap gig as a condition for promotion ... That video is pretty bad.
  20. Rupp is striking out about 50% of the time in AAA. That's worse than Sano who is now in A.
  21. Wow ... Lot's of overreaction (except the Belisle parts) after a loss to a top team after winning two and being down the two hottest players in the lineup for most of the game. For those wanting to dump the catchers, be careful what you wish for. I know they aren't hitting, but that isn't a bat first position. They've been handling a staff that has been doing well and putting the team in a position to win games. I wouldn't be surprised if Astudillo came up and hit more than either Garver or Wilson, but I would venture to guess there is a reason he is being moved around the field at Rochester. My guess would be that he doesn't play any position particularly well, but his bat is desirable. The Twins don't need to mess up a good thing by throwing a catcher in there that can't handle the staff. Does anyone have some actual info on the defense, framing, blocking and game-calling abilities of Sawyer or Astudillo? I think that would be much more useful for forming an opinion on whether they should be given a shot than forming that opinion off batting average.
  22. Lynn gave them a chance. It was ugly and not very fun to watch, but he worked out of many jams. I'm still not in the "worth the wait" camp, but he did beat a very good team with the help of four lock-down relief outings.
