  1. Rosario should stay at 2B for a few reasons: 1. He is already a true outfielder, so more time at second fills out his potential. 2. There are other middle infielders like Santana and Polanco who are still working through SS possibilities. 3. If the Twins are interested in trading away any prospects and Rosario is one, his bat is very good as a second baseman and only above-average to good as a corner OF.
  2. Trevor May should be the guy. Absolutely. It might be Darnell though.
  3. A question: How transferrable is discipline really from the minors to the majors? I know that the claim is that it is pretty transferrable, but when the difference is, for instance, pitchers who *can* get the breaking pitches over for strikes vs. those who cannot, then it would seem that adjustments need to be made to maintain that walk rate. Now Hicks has done that, finally (?), in MLB (evidence is his walk rate). He has always been slowish to adjust and actually hit the ball, so I am still not totally worried. I just wish there was an alternative reality where he could spend time righty-only to see how that works for him.
  4. Feeling and thinking. I get mad at my students when they say "I feel that" instead of what they should say which is "I think that." Baseball is the thinking game and video analysis like this can enhance the thinking approach and preparation to the game. Eeesh!
  5. Great analysis. This is a very timely article. 1. We have to hope that this is a Dozier-esque kind of adjustment. 2. I agree mightily with Levi's comment about Antony. 3. How on earth did he go SO LONG with the toe tap????????????? Is there no Parker equivalent in the Twins organization??
  6. Yikes. Only 59 or so minor leaguers accounted for and really only half of those updated on a 15-day or so basis? This is not good. Whip cracking probably necessary . . .
  7. I am relenting on my meh-ness to this idea. I do think he should probably try to give it up.
  8. .857 OPS back in Fort Myers (61 plate appearances). Dman's concern is relevant here as Mejia has a .440 SLG there now, with 3 doubles and a homer! He has maintained that great BB/K ratio, but his isolated discipline has jumped to .97 from a career .66. Mejia is a very interesting player to watch this year since he came out of nowhere a year ago. A belated 22nd birthday to him!
  9. Back in AAA, Herrmann has produced. In 32 plate appearances he has a .400/.438/.667 (1.104) slash, 3 doubles, a triple, and a homer. It would be nice to see him get some of his punch back from 2012. He put up nice numbers in AA then and has yet to show it at AAA (and beyond, obviously).
  10. I think it might be wise to promote him to AAA in the near future and take over the CF duties from Eric Farris. Ortiz is not ideal there, but unlike Farris, he might still amount to some kind of MLB contributor. The Twins like Ortiz and he certainly provides more hope as a replacement OF than Farris and Wilkin Ramirez.
  11. Again Antony does this kind of nonsense. Gardenhire's comments are fine. Antony is another issue.
  12. It's probably both, and perhaps the teaching in tandem has a lot to do with it.
  13. It seems clear that a 2015-at-some-point player roster could be: 1B Mauer 2B Polanco/Dozier 3B Sano SS Dozier/Polanco C Pinto DH Vargas LF Rosario CF Buxton RF Hicks Let's say Santana, Plouffe, Ortiz/maybe JD Williams, X catcher on the bench Vargas fits in nicely as a switch-hitter in this scenario. He can get in minimal time at 1st base for spelling Mauer and DHing Pinto as well. Imagine those positions working and a lineup of: Buxton Mauer Sano Vargas Pinto Rosario Dozier Polanco Hicks Note: this is leaving Arcia out at the moment for no good reason.
  14. If I owned the team, I would throw in nice little performance bonuses in these "cheap" years. I know that isn't realistic in this scenario. Anyway, he isn't even in his arb years yet. One way to deal with this might be to see what he wants in his first year of arbitration and instead of coming up with their own amount and then bargaining or going to arbitration, just giving him that amount.
  15. He is a free agent a long time from now. I don't understand the rush.
  16. This shouldn't be surprising. He was a good hitter for two seasons, an average to above average hitter for about 3 or 4 years, and is now declining very, very quickly.
  17. There are some encouraging signs of late from Ortiz. In the last week, Ortiz has an OPS of 1.091, smacking his first homer along the way. The BB/K (2/20) ratio is still just absolutely terrible. He needs to get that corrected.
  18. One would have hoped that Willingham had been traded and Kubel never signed. Now they are stuck with these roster cloggers. Colabello-Parmelee isn't a terrible platoon situation.
  19. Williams is back in Cedar Rapids to start the year. While the Twins have many OF above him, only a few of them are actually good, so it is a little odd that Williams is down again at a level he excelled at in 2013. In 28 plate appearances this year he has a slash line of .364/.464/.455 (.919), with a couple doubles and 4 walks. He has played 4 games in LF and one in CF so far. At some point, the logjam in Fort Myers needs to be cleared. There are spots available for promoting to New Britain (and the good NB OFs to Rochester as well).
  20. The only person worth mentioning who might ever have such a chance would be Danny Ortiz. His ceiling is very likely 4th OF, with only spot relief in CF.
  21. Nice job, Nick. This sums up things precisely and concisely. I do not get the attitude about 24th and 25th roster spots being meaningless. The Twins treated them that way, and look what happened. Guerrier and Bartlett never had any business being signed by this team. Some dispute this, apparently. To lose anyone from the roster because of an aging, potentially merely average middle reliever is beyond my comprehension. Meanwhile, Darnell goes back down, Guerra, Oliveros, and Achter sit in the minors while oldsters with no future get promoted, and the Twins just look silly with 13 pitchers and gaping roster holes . . . holes being made bigger by the fall of Jason Kubel, Chris Colabello, and Trevor Plouffe.
  22. No Bernier and no Guerrier. I don't understand why either one is being considered.
  23. I knew who you were talking about from the title. It's an impressive streak. I think the 2015 roster is going to look a lot different, and he might be part of that.
  24. Well he isn't ready for MLB. He's about the only healthy good player near the MLB, however, who is worth bothering with for emergency CF, though.
