  1. Well perhaps that goes back to developing too slowly . . . The Twins approach with Parmelee and Benson was fine up until 2011 when they both should have gotten a taste of Rochester. Hicks' movement through has been good. Arcia's movement is much better. They could have kept him in Fort Myers for the whole year in the name of proper development and "seasoning" but they rightly didn't. Joe Benson's cumulative at New Britain in 2011 was not so great as to say he was overqualified to be there. His 28 games at Rochester this year showed he did not belong there this year. Prior to 2011 he moved through a couple of levels every year. Developed too slowly? Don't think so. In 472 plate appearances in 2011 at New Britain: .285/.388/.495, 28 doubles, 3 triples, 16 homers. Not sure what on earth you are talking about. Between 2010 and 2011 he had 900 damn plate appearances at New Britain with 39 homers and an OPS around .874. So, again, I don't know what you are talking about. With regard to Rochester in 2012, first he was injured, second he has 108 plate appearances. The appropriate decision was to let him overcome struggles in AAA. AAA still is the closest to the majors. He's a top prospect . . . demoting back to a level where he was great at for 900 plate appearances prior to 2012 is terribly stupid.
  2. Did you have a straight face when you wrote this? Andy Leer is not a good baseball player. I would be completely shocked if he isn't released.
  3. Yay! Twins Twerp, why do you feel the need to exaggerate? I said that 1000 plate appearances at AA seemed like overkill there and that he should have spent time at AAA THIS YEAR before likely starting there next year. What's wrong with that? How is that anything remotely akin to "spending a month" at every level?
  4. Adam Walker being excluded was a mistake, but I kept Rosario off because of my deep hope that he sticks at 2B.
  5. Great analysis. He is clearly also aiming instead of throwing. I have been surprised by him this year because he seems like a very smart pitcher who takes getting better seriously.
  6. I would be excited to see it.
  7. I was wondering about it given Mauer and Doumit situations and the fact that Butera is terrible.
  8. It's the Church. A guess, but I'm sure Latino's overwhelmingly disfavor gay marriage as well. I think it's pretty tried-and-true result of oppression--the best way to stop being the Other is to identify and rally against another Other. Spot on, unfortunately. Great assessment. Anti-gay attitudes are almost exclusively the result of Christian nonsense about sin. It's Christian, but it isn't Christ-ian (love thy neighbor). It's damn weird.
  9. Part of my problem with how we run the minor leagues. We NEVER have a young player that succeeds in the majors .....EVER. Justin was 26, Hunter 26, Span 25, etc. Players are not given the propere instuction to be up at a young age & MN is NOT goin to give them that time during the majors. How many teams go with young players, but not MN. We love the 25yr old Pedro Florimon/Brian Dozier, 31yr old Matt Carson type of rookies cause they DONT push their younger guys (who KNOW they have no shot of reaching the majors till 24/25) Yep. Repeat seasons at Beloit and New Britain are the big killers besides being slow as hell to promote to Beloit in the first place. Arcia's trajectory is great, though. Benson and Parmelee were ok, Hicks is good, and Revere's was a forced move (and a mistake in 2011, certainly). Again, as I have said a bunch of times, there was a study of minor league PAs and IPs and through 2010 the Twins were the slowest promoters in baseball for position players and top 3-4 in slowness for pitchers. This has changed somewhat thanks to Revere and even Parmelee, but it remains true that something is just off. Getting legitimate prospects up at 25 or higher for the first time is a WASTE of time, namely the 23-25 years.
  10. People cannot suggest Capps with a straight face. Even at $2.5 million that is $2 million over replacement for the same performance. Come on.
  11. Yes, I would lock in: Perkins Burton Duensing Fien Robertson DeVries (after trading Swarzak ias and add-in in a Morneau trade) Alex Burnett has an option and it needs to be used immediately. He got hella lucky this year. He should work in a setup role in Rochester to figure out how to strike more people out. Anthony Slama is the obvious choice, but we know that the Twins are embarrassed by his success in the minors. He is likely gone, which is totally stupid. Kyle Waldrop might join him, so: Deolis Guerra is the last guy to fill out the bullpen. It's a good thing he was called up in September to get some big league innings. Oh, wait. That stupidly didn't happen. Outside that, Dakota Watts and Bruce Pugh could provide some relief to relief. Andrew Albers would be another LR option.
  12. DeVries and Deduno deserve consideration for the 5th spot, but I would like to see Anthony Swarzak go away as a filler/add-in in some trade involving Morneau, so DeVries would be the natural choice to take over as LR/spot starter.
  13. I think you know where I'm coming from. I don't expect you to agree with it. But there are a lot of sin tendancies about people that are very much who they are yet still morally wrong. As an example, I'm on the other side of the spectrum. I like women... way too much. And my struggles are no more or less a sin than the homosexuals. Each of us struggles with something that is integral to our very nature, yet our nature is sinful at its core. I can cop out and simply say "this is the way God made me," but that is an excuse that ignores the fundamental nature of mankind. That said, as I said earlier, despite my opinion on homosexuality, I don't see why homosexuals cannot live freely in this country just as I can. Fair enough. Usually if I am morally opposed to something (say like torture, for instance) I want an end to it! Haha. Thanks for the reasonable reply.
  14. Well the MSM spends way more time on national polls as though a national poll really says anything. You may be right, but have you watched Fox News the past two days. It's masochistic, I know, but it is also eye-opening. I have been flabbergasted by how they have spun this and also just blatantly lied. They are doing a masterful job of turning this around for Romney. Those moderates in the middle who are somehow undecided often seem to decide on foreign policy and the wimp narrative is HEAVY along with the apology narrative. It's a spectacle of spin, to be sure, but it might be effective somehow (I spent half an hour going back and forth on Facebook today with someone I didn't even know and he was given three chances to take back his endorsement of "Obama sympathizes with those who waged the attacks" and he wouldn't do it. There might be a lot of people out there like that).
  15. You can view the page at http://www.twinsdaily.com/content.php?1036-Yes-the-Twins-have-outfield-depth
  16. In the early-to-mid part of the season, legitimate question marks about the outfield depth were raised. Joe Benson (24, AA/AAA), and Rene Tosoni (26, AA/AAA), the two outfield prospects who spent time with the Twins in 2011, were struggling with injuries. The only prospect having a good year was Oswaldo Arcia. Now at the beginning of September, things have changed dramatically, though it isn't because of Benson or Tosoni. Instead, Oswaldo Arcia (21, AA) and Aaron Hicks (22, AA) have turned in good-to-great seasons at AA. Arcia has not missed a step in his promotion to AA. He posted a .328/.398/.557 line with 10 homers in 299 plate appearances. Hicks emerged with a 286/.384/.460 line that amounted to the highest OPS of his career since the GCL in 2008. He also increased his power (13 homers) and stole 32 bases in 43 attempts. The AAA/AAAA contingent of outfielders (Darin Mastroianni, Matt Carson, Evan Bigley and Wilkin Ramirez) provide good 4th and 5th OF options. Chris Herrmann (24, AA), while mainly a catcher this year, still would provide 5th OF status for the Twins and could be a solid bench player for the Twins in the near future. Further down in the organization, Lance Ray (23, A) and Danny Ortiz (22, A) each produced OK seasons, but still show promise and, most importantly, improved overall from 2011. Ray's .234/.327/.403 slash with 13 homers and and improved BB/K rate signals good progress in his development. Ortiz's .269/.313/.424 line with 8 homers is also a step in the right direction, and he was promoted early in the season from low-A. While Angel Morales (22, A) and JD Williams (21, low-A) are now big question marks, Nate Roberts (23, A) has been excellent once again. He posted a .299/.433/.427 slash in his repeat Beloit season and walked more than he struck out (44/37). If healthy in 2013, he could end the season in New Britain. Romy Jimenez (21, Rookie) turned in a great year for E-Town and Candido Pimentel (22, Rookie) had a small breakthrough there while also playing some second base. Most importantly, Max Kepler (19, Rookie) had a huge breakout season and may move on to Beloit next year with increased power and plate discipline. His statistics were a sight for sore eyes: .297/.387/.539 with 16 doubles, 5 triples, and 10 homers in 269 plate appearances. He is emerging as a top 10 prospect for the Twins. Finally, Byron Buxton (18, Rookie) was promoted from the GCL and actually improved a bit after the promotion. Dereck Rodriguez (20, Rookie) was very good (.783 OPS) for the GCL Twins and the Danny Valencia trade brought in another quality player in Jeremias Pineda (21, Rookie). While Rodriguez will likely start for E-Town next year, Pineda might move up to Beloit as a 4th OF. I have not discussed Rory Rhodes (21 A/Rookie)--who was a 3B, then a 1B, and is now a potential corner OF--nor did I mention Zach Larson (18, Rookie) or Kelvin Ortiz (20, Rookie) from the GCL. With Benson and Tosoni included, I have mentioned 23 outfield candidates from Mastroianni and Carson currently on the Twins 25 man roster to players drafted in 2012. These players range from potential stars to never-will-make-it-to-The-Show-players, but they are all valuable contributors and demonstrate, as a whole, that there is significant OF depth in the system, especially up through Beloit. Only time will tell with these players, but I think it is now safe to say that there really is OF depth in the Twins' system.
  17. Haha. Precisely! Great article.
  18. Yeah, if that is the trajectory of things, I would want nothing to do with trading Morneau. My god, they can't actually RUN A BUSINESS like that, right?
  19. This is for the next 7 weeks and for those with an interest in politics. Not in the arguing part in terms of policy, but in the predictive part in terms of electoral votes. I told my class today first, but you second, the result is going to be 319-219 for Obama. Swing states for Obama: Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire Swing states for Romney: North Carolina, Virginia
  20. But look, small government libertarians who actually are conscientious . . . there is no hope AT ALL in that while voting for this war machine and this create-dependency machine. There will be no such thing as small government in America until it hits the fan hard. And both parties know this and one party lies blatantly about it. The other just rolls with the bunches and rarely stands up for anything progressive.
  21. Glunn is spot on here. Voter fraud is a LAUGHABLE joke. It is so so rare. Purging voter registration is a much bigger problem (see Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004). The war on drugs, like the war on crime, and certainly the war on terrorism are all complete shams. They aren't wars to end those problems, they are wars to exacerbate those problems. There is too much money in "corrections" and the military-industrial complex and drug trafficking. The electoral college situation is merely another reason for Americans to demand powerful and broad electoral reform from limited financing to instant run-off voting to proportional electoral vote counts. And yes the poor and middle class will be screwed and they WILL NOT KNOW it. They do not vote in their self-interest, which amazes me. This is not to say that I am a big government fan. If you ever search my name you will find out why. The point is that there is so much manipulation while there is a squashing of real education in this country that effective democracy is completely obsolete. Evidence? That the people still vote for these assclowns again and again and again.
  22. There is no reason to play Doumit in LF. None. This manager just takes the damn cake. Going through MUCH of this season I was not into the "fire 'em" idea, but now I am. From TR to Gardy and Jim Rantz. They are all showing their true (dumb) colors. My god. Doumit in LF? And the Twins also managed to use SEVEN pitchers tonight in another feat of absurdity. Really . . . from Slama to Parmelee to Dozier to Jeff Gray to playing Doumit in LF to using the bullpen BIZARRELY in sept. of a lost season to the terrible use of the DL vs. "day-to-day" situations . . . it is completely beyond comprehension. ONLY with new ownership would the necessary corrections be made, however.
  23. Both should have been moved to Fort Myers in early August. And they should both be there for most of the 2013 season until an August promotion (assuming all goes as expected) to New Britain. But alas . . . the Twins think that the low A-to-high A promotion isn't worth it for even the BEST prospects. They were wise with Arcia, but not with Sano and Rosario.
  24. Morneau is very enticing for the Red Sox, obviously. Two top 10 BoSox prospects and taking on all or the good majority of Morneau's $14 million salary.
  25. I am for trading Morneau and playing Parmelee at first base. It's not even close. Parmelee in RF does not make the OF good at all and Morneau's $14 million is useful elsewhere. Span or Revere become tradeable with the rise of Hicks. Arcia would add depth.
