  1. This is under the assumption that no more prospects are going to be added to the system before the beginning of the 2013 season. So here are the top 60 prospects in the Twins organization: 1. Miguel Sano 2. Aaron Hicks 3. Oswaldo Arcia 4. Byron Buxton 5. Alex Meyer 6. Eddie Rosario 7. Jose Berrios 8. Kyle Gibson 9. Max Kepler 10. Trevor May 11. Joe Benson 12. Travis Harrison 13. Chris Herrmann 14. Nate Roberts 15. Adam Walker 16. Kennys Vargas 17. Niko Goodrum 18. Adrian Salcedo 19. Hudson Boyd 20. Matt Hauser 21. Josh Burris 22. Danny Santana 23. BJ Hermsen 24. Alex Wimmers 25. Levi Michael 26. Dereck Rodriguez 27. Jason Wheeler 28. Jorge Polanco 29. Tom Stuifbergen 30. Mason Melotakis 31. Luke Bard 32. Danny Ortiz 33. Michael Tonkin 34. Angel Mata 35. J.T. Chargois 36. Madison Boer 37. Matthew Summers 38. D.J. Baxendale 39. Manuel Soliman 40. Angel Morales 41. A.J. Achter 42. Corey Williams 43. J.D. Williams 44. Lester Oliveros 45. Josmil Pinto 46. Bruce Pugh 47. Chris Colabello 48. Dakota Watts 49. Tyler Duffey 50. James Beresford 51. Tim Shibuya 52. Deolis Guerra 53. Pat Dean 54. Taylor Rogers 55. Pedro Hernandez 56. Romy Jimenez 57. Tyler Jones 58. Logan Darnell 59. Matt Koch 60. Bobby Lanigan Once I got to 35 it became a mess of pitchers. There are about 10-12 pitchers who should differentiate themselves in 2013.
  2. Florimon will be better in 2013 than Nick Punto in 2013.
  3. Let's hope not.
  4. Then I would change the initial idea in order to please the union. What about offering the baseline but then including the harder and harder incentives for more money. As the team, who cares about paying the extra money given that the player must have done very well to earn it. Let me give an example. Let's say that Shaun Marcum is looking at 2 year/18 dollar deals right now. Why not offer him that with one level of incentives (say 160 innings and sub 4.00 ERA) making it 2/21 and another level (200 innings, sub 4.00 ERA) making it 2/24?
  5. I would honestly offer an either/or. Either a one year, 14 million deal (with an option and 2 million buyout) or a three year 33 million deal (if the sense is that it is going to require that kind of money). He might like the guaranteed 16 million.
  6. I don't trust LaVelle to know what is going on, honestly, but I don't see what else the Twins could actually be planning. I wish I knew whether or not the Twins were simply not going to get Marcum or Jackson based on the fact that the team has sucked the past two years and those pitchers want to go to a contender. If that is the case, oh well. If not, and if the Twins chose to pay Correia and some other joke like Lannan money instead of further pursuing quality pitching, then something is dramatically wrong with the front office. I have to wonder if the excuse is going to be like last year: "well one good pitcher wasn't going to make us a contender, so we decided not to spend that money" blah blah blah blah. I say no to Saunders. I would have taken him over nothing before they went out and threw money in the garbage for Correia. Now, they really had better just hold on instead of adding more jokers. I would rather let Hendriks have at it then replace him with Saunders.
  7. You know how George W. Bush talked to Americans like they were stupid, but he wasn't actually stupid at all? Is that how Gardy is as well, because he certainly talks to Twins fans like they are stupid.
  8. Good analysis. He is a bit lower on my list of prospects, but is still just behind Gibson and Berrios. If the nay-sayers are right and he is a 4-5 starter, then jump up and down for that because it is a MAJOR improvement over the garbage recently trotted out there and what is going to be trotted out there in 2013 with Correia.
  9. There are some strange comments. Barring another concussion, Morneau could really be a massive difference-maker in this lineup. If that guy is back to 80+ normal then it will mean good things. This coupled with a full season of Plouffe and Parmelee will be interesting. And then there is Aaron Hicks who has a chance to step in for Denard Span. Let's see where that goes. I want a lineup of Hicks-Mauer-Willingham-Morneau-Doumit-Plouffe-Parmelee-Dozier-Florimon/Carroll. I think that lineup may be able to be very productive. The key really is just moving everyone up a spot. Gardenhire is not intelligent, so this may not happen. The CF doesn't really matter in my view--if it's Mastro, let him try batting leadoff, but CLEARLY he cannot be followed by anyone not named Mauer. If Gardenhire simply fixed is diseased oldster thinking about baseball he can immediately limit the loss of Span by properly fixing the lineup. I think that Hicks will be the best leadoff option that the Twins have. But Mauer must bat second.
  10. I would like to see him with Ortiz and Morales in New Britain. Those three are legitimate prospects and they should be there to compete and be close to knocking on the door. NO more fill in players taking up space, please.
  11. First, the article by Wojnarowski makes me cry. The disrespect given to the guy who MIGHT BE THE BEST OVERALL PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE after LeBron's numbers decline is a disgrace. That he wants a team around him reminds me so much of KG that it is gross. Can you imagine K-Love going to the Clippers or to Brooklyn next year and immediately winning a championship? Anyway, the T-Wolves were great last year with Rubio and Ridnour as the two. I like that. Shved then subs in for both of them and Malcolm Lee can just stop trying to be an NBA player (seriously, what is with this team continuing trying out JOKES at the two-guard?????). Ridnour was great as the two guard last year with Rubio. Pekovic is getting better and Kirilenko is that Marion-like player that really can stabilize the team. NOW . . . Derrick Williams? He is not getting appropriate playing time AT ALL because of some strange love for unskilled Dante Cunningham. So either play him or trade him. Full stop. Williams, next year's second round pick and 2014's first-round pick for Gasol?
  12. Yeah it's a dice throw, but Cleveland has likely done well.
  13. I disagree, but that is fine. Correia isn't even going to be in the rotation in 2014. If he is, the Twins have much larger problems with Gibson, Meyer, May, and Hendriks. Dempster is at least a capable 2-3 and not a 5-6.
  14. "This is one of the most outrageous contracts in an offseason that's been full of them. It's too bad the Twins had to be the ones to sign it. They'd have been better off adding that $10 million on top of an offer to a pitcher who could actually make a difference." That's the crucial thing right there. And I have a hard time believing that the extra money thrown at Shaun Marcum wouldn't have been enticing enough.
  15. How many false things can one say in a post? Durable? How? Check how many seasons he's thrown 200 innings? 0. How about 175? 1. Etc. And he isn't all that better than at least 5 other pitchers at AAAA right now, including Blackburn.
  16. Yes you can complain. The Twins already have pitchers who could equal what Correia is going to do. One is a guy they are paying $5.5 million to and the others are league minimum guys.
  17. He also actually isn't that durable. He has one season over 172 innings pitched. They should have, honestly, just saved that damn money and tried to someone turn the $5.5 million being spent on Blackburn into a viable 5th starter. They now are spending $10.5 million for both of them.
  18. One should "overpay" for above-average to great pitching and never "overpay" for mediocre pitching. Correia is one of a dozen or more similar pitchers, some of which will be getting minor league deals. It is much better to spend 10-15 million on a good pitcher and then two minor league deals or very small contracts then to pay this kind of money on bad pitching. He is a fifth starter and can only get worse. $10.5 million spend on Correia and Blackburn next year. Think about that.
  19. 1. Scott Diamond 2. Vance Worley 3. Kevin Correia 4. and 5. Liam Hendriks, Sam Deduno, Cole DeVries, etc. Two 3 pitchers, three 5 pitchers, and Hendriks as wildcard. Let's just hope that there is a better signing coming.
  20. DeVries' ERA was lower than that. Deduno's was close enough. And Hendriks will improve to be around that mark. Each one costs 1/10 of Correia.
  21. Haha. Agree on everything.
  22. One thing to remember. The Twins are not merely missing a CF. They are missing a leadoff hitter. Hicks is the only one of the three to properly be called a potential quality leadoff hitter.
  23. The Twins better hope for a mega-breakout from Liam Hendriks this year or else the entire rotation is composed of 3s and 5s until Gibson's limited innings.
  24. We're punting 2013. We're simply taking a knee in 2014. Here we come 2015! Yeah, pendulum shifting back. Span trade moved it toward punting. Revere trade back toward not punting. This ridiculous signing definitely moves is back toward punting 2013.
  25. It is VERY Jason Marquis all over again. I don't understand the 2-year part of this the most. Consider this: the Twins are FORTUNATE to be getting rid of Blackburn's salary after 2013. And . . .WHAT DO THEY DO . . . they sign Blackburn 2 to a two-year deal so that B2 makes almost the same amount in 2014 as B1 is going to make in 2013. Think about this lunacy for a second. That is just a dumb use of money. If Terry Ryan was told that there was simply no way that Jackson, Marcum, or Dempster would sign with the Twins, then fine . . . but in that case don't then spend like this, but find 2-3 guys to sign on minor league deals. Go big (for the Twins, the above three would be big) or go home.
