  1. At this point I would be willing to sign players based on interesting names. What else is there to be excited about?
  2. Weird deal, though strictly out of any context of what this might mean for the rotation, a Johnson for Welker swap is a win for the Twins. Hoping Johnson is the not the second best addition to this rotation, though. Or third best.
  3. Won't be trading Rosario now. And it would be stupid to make such a trade anyway. Not when you can just buy them.
  4. I take it that you must be using Fangraphs WAR and not BR's. It's almost exactly the other way around on BR!!! Thanks WAR! What the hell? BR has Arroyo's 2012 WAR at 3.6, and 2013 WAR at 2.5. Nolasco? 1.8 and 1.4, respectively.
  5. If it is medication for rehab, who the hell is letting him take it?
  6. Nolasco could cost twice as much for twice the number of years and is not a better pitcher than Arroyo.
  7. I bet Arroyo gets basically the same years and money as Hudson. I would have thought 2/20 max, but not anymore.
  8. The pitchers should generally be kept (remove Hermsen first). The reason Kepler and Polanco are not going to be selected isn't just because of having to have them on the bench. It is that you then have a player with basically a wasted year with little development. I doubt any team, even the Astros, are willing to use a roster spot on someone who isn't ready before 2016 (and maybe 2017, given the year wasted).
  9. I am so baffled by the existence of Eric Fryer and BJ Hermsen on the 40-man, that I don't know how to think about limiting this to four guys. I wouldn't even consider Welker, and either Presley or Mastroianni has to go, so there could be up to 8 more guys added for me.
  10. It would be cool (or hot if I were Paris Hilton) if there were September 2014 lineups of: 1. Buxton, CF 2. Mauer, 1B 3. Sano, 3B 4. Arcia, DH 5, Dozier, 2B 6. Rosario, LF 7. Pinto, C 8. Hicks, RF 9. Florimon, SS
  11. Rosario will start in AA. He showed promise there, but it wasn't overwhelming. If he starts out well, a quick move to AAA will happen. I always, basically, like the idea of in-season promotions for a taste of the next level with these kinds of players. Rosario got it and was solid, but still a definite work in progress. The Polanco question is a little odd because I don't see anything there to indicate he arrives with the Twins until 2016. That said, I wouldn't mind him back at SS in the minors in 2014.
  12. Gonsalves is easily moving in the top 10 next year and maybe top 7 given "graduation" time. I would not be surprised if Trevor May was in AAA all the way until September. Meyer falling to a reliever is something I have heard twice now. I don't get it.
  13. Sano, Polanco, Kepler, and Thorpe are fantastic international signings.
  14. Well I would prefer to get two Correia+ pitchers for the same price, and likely each for one or two fewer years. And Correia+ doesn't just mean better than Correia, it means like Correia but somewhat better (strikeouts do that). Correia at 2/10 vs. Nolasco at 4/52? Hell one can get more value from two more Correias! A Correia+ seems to be more in line with 2/20 or 3/30, maybe.
  15. 1. Matt Garza is getting 5 years and $70+ million. 2. I would offer Johan Santana a one-year deal for $2.5 million with huge incentives up to $10 million and an option for 2015 that is also large, and $2 million buyout) 3. Nolasco is grotesquely overvalued by the league and is vomit-worthy to consider paying him anything beyond 3 years and $30 million. 4. A.J. is a much better idea than involving Fryer. The only point, though, is to see what the Twins could get from him at the trade deadline.
  16. I would say get the talent up to AA ASAP, not MLB. Otherwise I agree. For the Twins in 2014 this would mean Berrios and Sulbaran getting some time at New Britain. Certainly all of the younger pitching prospects who are legit (Stewart, Gonsalves, Thorpe, Landa, Rosario, and Romero) should see CR time eventually.
  17. These are pretty good predictions of the coming debacle. There is just no way that Hicks and Arcia shouldn't be starting immediately in 2014. Dozier still might surprise. He can generate some surprising power from his swing. I would really like to bet on the greater homer total between Mauer and Dozier.
  18. Another reason not to sign a slightly above average (in his good years!) pitcher to a 4 or 5 (!) year deal: NO ONE trading for him until year 3, 4, or 5. Nolasco wouldn't be traded in 2014 or 2015. No team is dumb enough to do that.
  19. Some interesting things being said. I agree with those who question the wisdom of signing Nolasco to a 4-year deal and over $40 million. It is *clearly* absurd to do that. The consideration of doing this blows my mind more than the Eric Fryer love and that is bizarre. Those two things, together, however, with this team run by these people . . . perfect sense. Nolasco is Correia+. Do people deny this? I am asking. Christ, ARROYO is Correia+. And Arroyo is a 50/50 chance to actually be better over the next two years. Seriously. Let me frame this another way: I also think that Trevor May is a 50/50 chance at being better than Nolasco over the next four years. And at a very low fraction of the cost. Think about that. Signing 4th starters for tens of millions of bucks over several years is going to damage FA signings by this team in the next 3 years.
  20. I would not make the trade if I were the Twins. Acquiring minor league prospects is not always about filling needs. But Harrison is not going to be a third baseman anyway. I imagine he might have to be a 1B/RF. And did you see the season that Castro had last year?
  21. The Revere thing was more about the Phillies adding a legit CF and relegating Revere to his rightful spot as a 4th OF.
  22. I got that you weren't making an argument, though I didn't catch the reference to Correia. It makes me a little sick!
  23. Yeah, over 1300 innings with a career ERA+ of 94. At some point we have to say, with established pitchers, that the numbers don't lie.
  24. It would take Dozier, Berrios, and Harrison.
  25. Precisely this. I am very confused by the Nolasco situation. Anyway, it would seem like the Twins could get any two of Kazmir, Hughes, Haren, Arroyo, Johnson, and the like for roughly $50 million over less than 4 years.
