  1. Other than in 2009, Bartlett has never been good. Kubel is in freefall. These are bad roster decisions.
  2. Especially given the inappropriate comments from Antony last week! Not only inappropriate, but BS, given Kubel and Bartlett have been bad and terrible, respectively.
  3. Can you, like, put this post on the homepage here? It's precisely accurate and important given the issue at hand (Mike Pelfrey!).
  4. Watts was peaking last year and now something is totally different. Bad to see him go (and Hauser, who I really liked).
  5. It's pretty embarrassing to have Jason Kubel on this team given Antony's comments about no one taking the job. Kubel is potentially done as anything other than a middling-DH hitter at best. You better believe that this means about a 50/50 split at C with Pinto basically never being the DH because of irrational fears. Herrmann might be more useful than Kubel anyway!
  6. I would hope that Colabello beats out Kubel. And the bullpen could be bad. We have no idea how Deduno and Diamond would actually do there. Thielbar and Tonkin are obviously better options, but they have options.
  7. We know that batting Suzuki second is indefensible. Honestly, I probably would go Mauer-Dozier-Arcia-Willingham to start the season. Obviously that isn't going to happen though. Maybe the best we can hope for is Dozier-Mauer-Willingham-Arcia.
  8. Very smart decision. It will be interesting to see how they use Deduno in the bullpen and who is going to be the odd man out down there. Diamond needs to get an injury.
  9. I am not as concerned as some, though with Mauer moving to first Kurt Suzuki behind the plate is just nowhere near a good idea. I think Pinto is going to be mightily important this year. I am not concerned about Dozier, Arcia, and even Hicks. Willingham and Plouffe? Yes.
  10. If that whole flightpath-changed-earlier thing is true, this doesn't make sense, but I saw some article from a pilot who thought that it would most likely have been a fire on board and the pilot turned to try to get to the nearest or best airport. Then maybe the fire got out of control and it all hit the fan, er, ocean.
  11. Yet another reason why losing Sano for the year hurts. He could be that kind of guy (though not annoying like O-Hud).
  12. Has Parmelee gotten any time in LF? I haven't really paid attention to that.
  13. This is a good post! Thanks for articulating it well. Sometimes my flabbergastedness gets in the way of even a shred of eloquence!
  14. Ok, I will say that if he is aware of the things we don't know about in practice and whatnot and isn't referring to game statistics, then that would be nice. I don't get that impression. And *this* place is full of super-attachment to spring training stats as though they mean anything. Judging the offense as a whole because of spring training games is comical. We jabber about SSS meaning little but then we resort to it every spring. Good lord, Wilkin Ramirez homered in one of his first 10 at bats and people were calling for his "bench power bat."
  15. WAR stands for Wins Above Replacement. That figure starts in the mid 50s in terms of wins. Spend from there.
  16. You are right to be angry. I cannot believe Antony statement. Other than showing complete ignorance about certain players' performances, it also is very inappropriate.
  17. Exactly. These comments are inexcusable.
  18. Is this "tough talk" or simple irresponsible talk? I laugh at the notion that Hicks hasn't separated himself from Presley. Just because neither has been outstanding doesn't mean that there isn't a difference. Good lord. I can't believe an assistant GM talks like this and still has his job.
  19. The Hughes signing made the Nolasco signing look better (in terms of overall spending). I am excited to see him pitch for the Twins.
  20. In Shane's fantasy land, the Twins trade Correia and Pelfrey for mid-tier prospects and roll out with a rotation of Nolasco-Hughes-Deduno-Diamond-Gibson.
  21. Hopefully there aren't o-o-o swaps!
  22. Obviously I have always liked Herrmann. If he can get back to what he showed in most of his time in the minors--good plate discipline--he should be able to put up a decent OBP. I never would have signed Suzuki in the first place, but whatever. I have to wonder if Herrmann would even be beating out Parmelee, if it came to that (regardless of options).
  23. I would pass him through waivers right now. I don't think that a team is going to claim him. Perhaps it was best to be terrible out of the gates so that he could make it to Rochester and get his act together (hopefully). Still WEIRD that he has been so bad.
  24. Again . . . another year . . . and a lot of attention given to spring training stats. It's a short sample and it is worse than any same short sample from actual true MLB time in the actual season. Good lord.
  25. It was on mlbtraderumors hours before I posted. I am surprised that no one here paid attention to/saw that from Gardy. Weird.
