  1. Are we playing the Royals? Or the White Sox?
  2. If I get a medal, I’d run over to pick it up, but that would take a really long time.
  3. The actual report on me was, “Runs too long in one place.”
  4. Concur. Rested bullpen. Time to leave with some really good feelings.
  5. Scouting report on me was that I was a slow starter, but also slow after starting to run.
  6. I wore similar glasses as a kid, so he was one of my favorites.
  7. I wonder if they aren't figuring that with 44 games remaining, there's a reasonable likelihood they are going to need him at some point this season anyway. If Paddack is still out for a little while, the odds of making it through the rest of the season on just Lopez, Ober, SWR, Festa and Varland are pretty slim. Even if Paddack is back soon, there's still a pretty good likelihood they will need someone else. If there's a good chance they'll need him later, it makes sense to go ahead and bite the bullet now.
  8. Peak vs. longevity is often the discussion. I'm thinking both would have pretty good JAWS scores. My favorite (folkie) writer is actually a guy named John McCutcheon, who wrote this:
  9. Might as well say it -- let's hope Blewett doesn't blowitt.
  10. What do you expect in this thread?
  11. "Lately" is my distinguisher. He's definitely got some good ones, but my taste leans toward the '90s and earlier. I'd vote for Kristofferson off of "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "Why Me", but I think "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" is one of the greatest songs ever written.
  12. Flo and Jamie are warming up to cover the eighth and ninth.
  13. Correct. I tell my son that if you don't know who wrote a great country song, the appropriate first guess is Kris Kristofferson. If it tilts toward folk, a good second guess would be John Prine.
  14. Radio folks speculating Buxton is out because of the ball he fouled off his shin.
  15. Dirt Band, Circle Vol. Two, Track 2. Was just listening to it yesterday.
  16. Cleveland up 9-8 going to the ninth. Clase in for the third straight day, after going 13 pitches Saturday and 20 on Sunday.
  17. After his second inning, getting through six is pretty significant.
  18. Can't even classify it as sew-sew for Singer.
  19. For more on the subject, this is outstanding. Best baseball book I've read in several years. Brown interviews a dozen or so backup catchers, with the story framed around Kratz's career.
  20. They will also have guys that need to be added to the 40-man, either from coming off the 60-day IL or to avoid getting lost in the Rule 5 draft.
  21. They've gone through previous offseasons with only two catchers on the 40-man, signing a veteran backup or two on minor league deals. He seems like a non-tender guy to me -- his roster spot will be more valuable than he is.
  22. Baseball-reference.com only updates once per day, so this is his third.
  23. He obviously has not been able to thread the needle on his pitches.
