  1. Pagan threw 23 pitches. I don't think he'll be back out. Lopez was warming up in case they got another hit or two and it got close. Now that they are up six, and given that Moran and Sands threw yesterday, I'm guessing it's Alcala. Hopefully Alcala gets both innings, but I could also see a Jax confidence inning.
  2. Who is warming up in the pen? I have a feeling we could soon know which reliever won't be traveling to L.A.
  3. Whoever is hurt or nursing something by then. Few teams make it more than two weeks without an injury.
  4. Cubs TV guys have now entered the Mary Tyler Moore Discussion part of the show.
  5. In the case of LAD, I'm fine if we lose this series, but win the second one against them.
  6. I do think he'll get a Pineda-type contract (his first one with us) from someone. Just not sure it should be us. As you say, that's a a November decision.
  7. We'd better be careful -- another four runs and this inning's number won't be crooked anymore!
  8. Gotta love how Farmer plows into second with the hustle double.
  9. Larnach: "Runs? We don't need to carry over no steenkin' runs."
  10. "Nasal" is a good word on both. In addition to the word pictures that I referenced with Hughes on the radio side, he's a really good "teacher" of different aspects of baseball, explaining things well to people who aren't diehards, but not insulting the intelligence of those who know the game well. He and Ron Santo had an incredible rapport, back in the day. The same magic isn't there with Ron Coomer, at least yet.
  11. TV or radio? Pat Hughes is doing TV play-by-play. He's normally their radio guy and is quite good there. He paints a wonderful visual picture of what's happening, and I think he's more comfortable on the radio side. The regular TV guy is Jon Sciambi, but I'm guessing he has ESPN duties today. Jim Deshaies, doing color on TV, has a very dry sense of humor and will have some good puns over the course of the game.
  12. I was working on a remodeling project yesterday. Knocked a hole in the wall and discovered that there was a secret room, fully furnished and everything. Then Mrs. IT reminded me we live in a duplex.
  13. Let's hope he doesn't leave his curveball flat.
  14. I'll start. They stink. End of post.
  15. I doubt the Nationals are interested in trading for Alcala. I could see him being in St. Paul, however.
  16. Looking at the bullpen availability, it was going to be tough to win if the offense doesn’t score a bunch, Gray doesn’t goes deep, or both. Stewart and Lopez threw both Wednesday, Pagan threw Tuesday and Thursday and Jax threw Tuesday and Wednesday. Aside from Rodriguez and Moran, Duran was the only one truly fresh. Said another way, Nos 7 and 8 were fully rested, No. 6 was pretty rested, Nos. 4 and 5 threw two of the last three days. Nos. 2 and 3 threw the last two days, and No. 1 was pretty rested. I’m not suggesting Rocco tanked this game, but he was smart enough to know that this was likely going to be the toughest of the three to win. When Gray got to 94 pitches, you roll the dice with Moran to get out of the inning. Then you roll the dice with Jax and Pagan for the 7th and 8th. Then you bring in Duran. Unfortunately, the offense only scored two, Gray only went 5.1. Moran did his job, but Jax rolled snake-eyes, so then it’s time to finish off with Alcala and Rodriguez and rest up for Saturday. Now Duran has had two days off and Lopez, Stewart and Pagan have each had a day off. It would still help if Ryan could go seven tomorrow.
  17. Rocco said last night that Kepler would have most of tonight off against a lefty after having cramped last night.
  18. Apparently Morel is too much of a toadstool…
  19. Wasn’t too smart of Wisdom to get in the way of that one.
