  1. Just about Torii robbing the guy from San Francisco.
  2. Best I can tell, this is the first time the Twins have had two starting pitchers make the team, but no hitters. Long careers from Harmon, Tony O, Carew, Puckett and Mauer will do that.
  3. Dislike the idea of generic “American” and “National” uniforms. Much prefer the multicolor pageantry of seeing everyone in their own duds. Saw a picture of a mid-1970s National League All-Star team a few days ago and it was awesome. Also think it helps kids learning the game to see the unis from all the different teams.
  4. Don’t know if anyone’s interested in an All-Star Game Thread, but here goes. Not bothering with lineups — just offering a place for discussion if anyone’s watching and feels like chiming in.
  5. The thread also popped a new question into my head, namely... I wonder if Tony O ever reads TD and says to himself, "I'm sure glad I didn't have to deal with the Internet in the early 1970s."
  6. And I'll add to this that when they do make statements, folks start to read things into it. But stuff changes and then we get honked off that they seemingly didn't carry through. "They said that Buxton was going to start playing CF every day in May,* but now he isn't. They haven't been honest," etc. I'm with you, 9/12. Disappointed? Sure. But also willing to trust that people a lot smarter than me are doing their best to maximize the team's performance, which includes figuring out to best handle Buxton's health. *They didn't actually say this, but that's how "we're going to start him at DH for a month or so, with the hopes that he's able to play some CF later" gets interpreted.
  7. Do we actually know Keuchel's opt-out date? That's an honest question that I'm curious about. My rhetorical response is that if it's more than a week or so out, it feels like a pretty pointless conversation at this time. These things often resolve themselves and many of our opinions will change by then, whether from his continued or loss of effectiveness, his health, the health of others in the rotation and the results of games between now and then.
  8. Agreed. And based on how he’s done, he shouldn’t. He’s setting himself up well for a multi year deal.
  9. I hear where you’re going, but I suspect they will keep him and make the Qualifying Offer.
  10. I'll tell you, though. If you spot Gibson 14 runs, he's tough to beat.
  11. In case it's been missed elsewhere, the hope is for Polanco to start a rehab assignment next weekend.
  12. Not sure he deserves it over Gray, but him vs. Lopez is probably 50/50. It may have been a factor that Ryan is pitching today. That would have effectively left them a player short, since starters who pitch on Sunday generally aren't allowed to actually pitch in the game.
  13. Sandburg? I suppose that’s okay, since he’s 63.
  14. I’ll stand by the comment I’ve made several times. The Twins may not have what some would call an “ace,” but they have multiple guys who can pitch like an ace for an extended period of time. Several have been doing so.
  15. So what you’re saying is that Kepler is probably our best defensive right fielder? 😄
  16. Larnach either, I presume? (I was on radio.)
  17. And I was mistaken — Gustavus Adolphus.
  18. Now more than 25 years — wow.
  19. If I’m not mistaken, he met Annie after playing a show at Mankato State. I know it was on a Minnesota college campus.
  20. Regretfully, on the last part. I remember the night. If I may, this was way cool…
  21. Other way around — he is named for the Colorado city! His given name is “Duetschendorf,” but someone pointed out that wouldn’t fit well on a marquee. He spent a lot of time in the state as an Air Force kid, so went with that. “Rocky Mountain High” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
  22. My brother’s too. And mine. Only guy to have written two state songs.
  23. Glad to hear they still play John Denver during the stretch!
  24. I sure hope Kyle has a lot of those BOGO coupons.
  25. Does that count? @stringer bell was asking for right field.
