  1. The key piece of the puzzle is the Twins budget, which we don't know. If we knew their budget we could make guesses and make smart (maybe) suggestions. Their expenditures are an incomplete piece of the puzzle and are nearly useless without knowing the budget. I suspect the Pohlad who runs the team now is using the Twins as his only source of personal income, but I could be wrong. So ... just as the elder Pohlad was starting to open up the coffers, the team may have been crippled by a younger Pohlad needing to maintain a lifestyle. As I said, I could be wrong, this year will be a good indicator of what is to come. Bear in mind that the Twins have a pretty good team even if on the cheap, so I wouldn't take this as a big tragedy.
  2. He has blown out his arm and now his leg, both times requiring major surgery. This leg issue might be one that bothers him for the rest of his life. He was signed for his bat. His bat has a nearly limitless ceiling. The Twins can get his defense anywhere and his defense is an afterthought. DH him. Forget about convention, forget about his age. This is a case where what is best for HIM is to DH, AND what is best for the TEAM is for him to DH. If he manages to still be injury prone after a year of DH, package him in a blockbuster trade and let him be someone else's problem.
  3. I have been in enough board room meetings to recognize something that would come up and be heavily discussed/scrutinized. Buying and then selling within a few days of one another would be one of those things. But it's a learning process. They will learn to not have these knee jerk reactions in the future. If they are truly not sure if they are ready to buy, they won't. And they certainly won't sell after a bad road series against the best team in the NL a few days later. Would Ryan buy/sell so quickly? No, he would just sell or do nothing. But is "different" necessarily better? Of course not. Buying followed by selling is the same as doing nothing!
  4. Rosario could work out for the Cubs if they have the patience. He is still another year out at best, in my opinion.
  5. I think it's a given that the Trumps have some ivory and the like in a closet somewhere that they would like to show it off.
  6. 50,000 watts, suckas! http://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/theloudhouse/images/d/d2/50%2C000_Instagram_followers.gif
  7. Radio.com ... but I would imagine the Twins games would be inaccessible on the stream.
  8. I have a suspicion that the VIkings are about to begin a 1970s-like dynasty. Mind you, they didn't win a championship back then.....
  9. The team bought a pitcher before the deadline and then sold him a few days later. This shows a lack of sound decision making ability.
  10. The Calvin Griffith teams were known for having outstanding infield defenses. I'm not sure how accurate we can be when we only look back 15 years. The underrated 70s teams were playing very good defense.
  11. To quote Foge Fazio when he was the defensive coordinator under Dennis Green, all the money is on the other side of the ball. Plus, the GOP worked hard to conflate religion with politics. Minnesotans might not be able to fathom that in the South, liberals/Democrats are equated to satan. This is not hyperbole. There is a belief that any Republican is better than any Democrat because of this. I don't know how this mindset could possibly be broken, esp. in any reasonable time frame and in an era of FoxNews.
  12. Lots of great memories of listening to the Twins on WCCO. It seemed wrong when they moved on.
  13. I'm talking about the D grade, obviously. If the criteria is "The current players can get them into the playoffs" -- is that a D to you? Clearly they did not understand the team, though none of us expected a playoff berth we knew a big swing would come if Buxton started to perform as expected.
  14. "What can Minnesota offer Shohei Otani?" Nearly everything he is looking for. A job playing baseball and cash. He can take care of the friend base and spouse himself.
  15. Franken. :/ Regarding privatization of prisons ... politicians in the mid 90s ran on a platform of being tougher on crime. The three strikes rules, etc. More prisons were built nationwide. And then ... the prisons were empty. Laws were changed to fill them, which unfortunately meant people of color were imprisoned for things that whites were not. Yeah, this is backwards, broken thinking which will be difficult to reverse.
  16. It's what we all knew ... if Buxton blossomed, the Twins were in for a huge change of fortune. I can't expect SI or Fox to have had an understanding of that....

  18. Shop smart ... shop Jelfrey Marte.
  19. Well deserved. Last year was successful ... now the real challenge begins to take the team to the next level.
  20. No point. The Twins will want the outfielders to learn from Buxton, not from Ichiro.
  21. I expect Vargas won't have a good career until he finds an organization that doesn't think he is broken and is unrealistically negative about his defense. For Vargas's own good, the Twins should just rip the band aid off quickly and let him blossom elsewhere. If they keep him, they have to stop treating him like he's a 12 year old version of Refrigerator Perry and give him the space to sink or swim. I don't see that happening under Molitor.
  22. Why should the Democrats blow everything up when they won the popular vote? The GOP is imploding, all the Democrats have to do is work and keep their mouths shut for the next year.
  23. I read his apology and I think it is sincere. He knows he hurt people.
  24. I don't envy their task to try to build up pitching during the offseason. Best of luck to them ... let's see how this lands in a couple of months.
  25. I read a LOOONG time ago that he was like this ... like late 90s or early 00s. I purposely paid no attention to him over the years and was mildly surprised he became so popular. But then, it seems all history of whatever I read back then was deleted a long time ago.....
