  1. I would love to disagree on this topic because it is really, really hard to watch for the time being. But unfortunately where the franchise is right now, I think they have to wait. In 2-4 months, a lot of this gets sorted out and we are not winning the world series this year anyway. One of the main things that helps is I doubt both Arcia and Vargas prove to be MLB caliber DH and LF. If one gets sent down, then the other becomes the DH and it opens up some better defensive options. Given they are both young, we need more reps to see which one. You would hate to choose before you need to. Buxton at some point fixes CF, but he has a ton of rust to shake off first. No need to stunt his development to get better CF play for a short period of time. And if LF opens up, it may be Hicks vs. Rosario and we need time to pick who. Or if Sano sticks at 3B, can Plouffe play there? Has to be an upgrade over Arcia. But Sano has rust to shake off too. The only thing I could really get behind right now is swapping Hunter for Arcia. If Arcia has a future in the OF, it is in right IMO. So why not keep him there. From what I have seen, a 39 year old Hunter is at least a wash with Arcia.
  2. I usually look at these reports to see how Sano and Buxton did. Any way you could add their stats regardless of if they were a highlight of the game? Would others find this valuable?
  3. My understanding is MLB puts together a comprehensive list of every major drug out there and determines which has a banned substance in it. I think you would see guys fighting these. Ervin's reaction for example was everyone else's. I didn't knowingly take it but I will serve my sentence.
  4. My guess is the four are linked to the same guy, who sold them stanzanol and said he altered it in a way to fool the test, a la Bosch and Conte. Three of the four are from the Dominican....
  5. I agree. think it is really important to bring guys up, even for a little period of time. Get the jitter out and see how they stack up an what they need to work on. The 10 games May had for example, I think that is really great for his development going into the off-season.
  6. I completely agree. But they love breaking camp with veterans and hold their breathe that we are in this thing in July. That just hasn't happened.
  7. I meant only new of prospects that reach this year
  8. The good news is the only two guys that maybe new prospects that get to the big's this year are buxton and Rosario. Buxton is as gifted defensively as you will find and Rosario, a former cf has to be miles better than Arcia and hunter.
  9. I have a dream of the July/August Twins having two good outfielders in it. In the meantime, it may be tough to watch.
  10. Certain things can improve and others can't. Oswaldo Arcia is really, really slow. He has a lot going on and he tries really, really hard when going after a ball. Case and point, the ball that went off his glove (pop up he came in and towards the line). Gordon easily gets there. Most LF's really book after it and get to it. He sort of gets there and is so out of control when he does he can't locate the ball enough to catch it. To the point about FIP and ERA. That was not an error. We somehow only had credit for two errors. But the difference between 70 wins and 90 wins is a few plays a game that you either make or don't make. With the current roster, we are going to rank dead last in making the borderline plays.
  11. This is what needs to happen by July/August. Buxton is in CF. Rosario or HIcks is in LF. Buxton shades whoever is in RF between Hunter and Arcia. I honestly think this makes our team 50 runs better just on defense. If either Arcia or Vargas flounders at the plate, the other is the DH and we have an actual outfield.
  12. River, We need to change the definition of routine this year.
  13. We gave the royals 7 additional outs in his first five innings. The royals consistently made the borderline plays. I count us at 0 for 7 and them 5 for 5. That is the difference.
  14. If the stars and moon align and buxton and Rosario are up this year, our pitching staff will look light years better.
  15. Twins miscues. Some were not errors, but plays that should be made 80 percent of the time 1 Ball under doziers glove 2 the double play where santana took his foot off the bag 3 the same dp. Mauer failed to scoop the ball 4 the other missed dp where dozier back handed and under handed it 40 feet 5 the pop up that went off arcia's glove. When moving forward and a pop up goes off your glove, that should be an error 6 torii misses the cut off man 7 arcia going back to his left. Tough play, but he was clueless amd gave himself no chance On the other hand, gordon made a tough play. Rios made two. And escobar made one. Btw, I am on replay and am only at the 7th inning stretch. Thus is so embarrasing.
  16. I completely agree. We rushed him to the big show because we desparately needed him to show we got something for the Santana deal. Span was a better player at that age and should have made the team over Gomez.
  17. It is rare that I defend the Twins owners. But after going 63-99 with an payroll near $110M (filled with a bunch of old players).....my understanding is Bill Smith's plan was to effectively double down and re-sign all the veterans, like Cuddy, Nathan, Kubel, etc. Hard to knock the Twins for wanting to go in another direction.
  18. I will take garza's cockiness over delmons laziness any day The kicker is smith was convinced delmon was better than garza so he threw in our starting ss too
  19. I meant to say you can't blame the yohan and hunter situation on smith.
  20. Agreed. Can't blame Johan and garza deals on smith. I will say that part of go go's issue was that he was brought up way too soon an that is on the gm. I feel like we really rushed that to show we got something for yohan. The garza thing was irritating. You never trade a really good, controlled pitcher for a corner outfielder. You just don't.
  21. SD, it appears from your profile pic that you pulled a Benjamin Button.
  22. I think the NBA would be more competitive than you think as well. Wiggins is averaging 16.5 points a game. Jabari Parker was averaging 13. Nerlins Noel is averging 10 points and almost 2 steals and 2 blocks a game. These guys are all rookies. So you put Towns, Okafor, and Kaminskey on the front line and I think they are somewhat competitive against the Timberwolves or Knicks. They don't win a 7 game series, but i think they sneak a win here or there and play competitive games.
  23. 16-4 seems off to me. That would mean the Twins win 128-34 over the course of a season. If a "replacement player" is a player from AA, that would mean the Twins current roster has 94 WAR on it (without adjusting for this being a really good AA team).
  24. This year is not going to be fair. This is essentially an all-star team.
  25. We don't know. No doubt about that. My statement was based on the course of the next year. But I think you are underestimating how low the bar is in certain instances. Like Jordan Schafer. He has had 1,225 at bats across six years and has racked up an OPS of .621. The consensus top 1-2 prospect in the game who is sitting in AA should be able to exceed that production right now. If he can't exceed that production, he is wildly over-rated. Plouffe vs. Sano. The last three years tells me Plouffe is a .250, 15-20 HR, 40-50 BB guy. His OPS should be around .700 to .750 (career .722). I think Sano would hit .230 and likely end up with more HR's and BB's given his profile, so I think his OPS ends up higher than Plouffe's. Defensively, no doubt Plouffe is better. And I think you will see over the course of the year, 1-2 starters from AAA bump guys off the rotation and 2-4 bullpen guys as well.
