  1. I will give four to one odds that short of paying all but 2.5 million of his salary and getting very little in return, the deadline comes and goes without a Nolasco trade.
  2. I wish we could move past any hope for trading Nolasco. Even "if we can't trade Nolasco"..... We can't trade him. My guess is we have tried for 18 months. He has the worst ERA of any qualified starter over 2.5 years and it isn't close. And he makes more than all but 33 starters in the league. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/rankings/starting-pitcher/
  3. Good update Nick I love that we have an outside search firm. It is nice to see the last two hires being external and from Houston and Cleveland If you expand Ricky's numbers back to 2014 he has the highest ERA among qualified starters by more than a half a run. So I think you just might be right. Nobody will be trading for him.
  4. Clean house. My god. These guys are so far out of their depth it isn't funny. This would be just great if this was another team in the division we could ridicule for years. But it isn't. If they hire an internal GM, keep most of the staff around, or make a Mike Tice type cheapest and least qualified hire I have to start following another team. I mean, what is the point?
  5. An awful pen and we all knew it was going to be. And they took one of the best asetts from the starters to boot.
  6. There were some moves that over the first half look good. But let’s take a step back. Almost all these guys listed here are placeholders and many could be traded in the next six days for a minimal return (Abad, Kintzler, Boshers, and Nunez).
  7. I found Antony's quote during the game that "we aren't going to give guys away to cut payroll" to be interesting. It was about the second comment he made if I remember right. Terry seemed to go out of his way and force comments about how much support he has from the Pohlads regarding budget. It seems like the Pohlad's are aware of their reputation and it is possible they tell their GM to say these things.
  8. If you are speaking about the Twins job, I think $2m is quite a bit high. I think Terry was making around $500k and my guess is the new GM does not sniff much more than that. Salary will likely be the biggest issue with us attracting top talent, moreso than weather, roster, etc. Cashman was the highest paid GM at $2m for some time. Now Epstein signed a 5 year, $18m deal and then Friedman signed a huge 5 year, $35m deal. I believe those guys may all have two titles though.
  9. Outside of an unlimited payroll, the next best thing I would expect a GM would want is good, cost controlled young starters. Between AA and AAA, we have Berrios, Jay, Jorge, and Stewart. That has to be somewhat appealing. Santana is a mid level starter and Gibson should be able to be a back end starter. We could be looking at a June 2017 rotation that consists of a few talented arms and outside of Ervin, nobody would be making any money at all.
  10. This is just my opinion and it obviously varies from yours. But I don’t think the Terry Ryan tree is going to yield any offers for Rob Antony. This organization has had a terrible run here and he was the #2 for quite some time. And our reputation around the league is that of a front office that lags behind the rest of the league on many fronts. You have #2’s and #3’s at about 25 other organizations that would be more sought after than him. In fact, he has never been publicly even rumored elsewhere as a GM. Could he find a job in another organization as a scout or something? Sure. But if he is relieved of his duties here his next role will almost certainly be a demotion.
  11. I agree that this is not an audition. But if they were to give the job to Antony, they would have to run a charade of lookng outside first. I mean that would be the worst PR ever if they just handed the job to Antony without even looking, interviewing, publicly leaking the external candidates, etc.
  12. I am in the Ruesse camp too. I would be curious Nick what you think. Assuming his moves are received well by the Pohlad's, do you think he has a shot? No shot? Outside shot? Legitimate contender?
  13. That is fair. I wasn't thinking just Gleeman. The ESPN analytic rankings for example.
  14. Earlier in the year Smalley said the Twins were just unlucky. When they score 7 runs they lose 8-7. When they get a good pitching performance they lose 2-1.
  15. They were both 22 when they debuted. Berrios was the 15th best prospect before the season. I don't think draft position means a lot here given all of that They just haven't let their guys struggle at all.
  16. I will have to respectfully disagree with you. It was four starts. At some point these guys have to take lumps and battle through it. Carlos Rodon walked 19 batters in his first 22 innings and they let him throw 139 innings last year. It may just inspire confidence in a player that their team believes in them despite a bad outing or two.
  17. Berrios is listed as the AAA starter tomorrow. If I was the number two I would have been pounding the table for him to have never have been demoted after four starts. After the demotion for him to be back. And that would have been a day 1 priority as interim GM
  18. We have a ton of players that won't be on the next good team and they are blocking players that might be. So there is a ton of value in clearing spots. Hopefully the issue (TR) has been removed and we can get on with it
  19. Yeah. Nolasco is the definition of negative value. He is putting up worse than replacement level numbers and also owed a fair amount of money.
  20. Yes. You are spot on. Nobody is going to see 60 starts out if Nolasco at a 5.50 ERA and want him after two shut outs.
  21. Berrios now has 165 innings in AAA (after 130 in AA). He has an ERA around 2.50, a WHIP at 1.00, and a k rate of 9.7. There is no reason why he needs 300+ innings in AA and AAA.
  22. It sorta comes back to what DSP actually does. He is the best person in the front office at communicating to the press (low bar). So if he hasn't been involved in the baseball decisions it maybe hard to fire him. I would also find it bizarre to publicly communicate that DSP will be involved in the GM hiring process if he too knows his days are limited. But bizarre, peculiar, etc is sort of par for the course right now
  23. Here is the article from Gleeman. Your comment was more or less spot on. “Antony was the second-loudest voice at the Twins’ table for all the bad moves. He doesn’t come from a scouting background like Ryan, instead climbing up the organizational ladder after starting in media relations, but Antony has a similarly old-school approach. In fact, as of 2010 he showed a shocking lack of familiarity with basic analytics and touted the importance of RBIs and wins. I was once invited into Antony’s office after writing about some of his old-school quotes and the in-person follow-up further convinced me he hadn’t even progressed to entry-level sabermetrics.” My personal take, contrary to complimenting Antony on improving. I think it says a lot about the Twins that their #2 had been rising the ranks, a heart beat away (and now in his second interim stint) with knowing so little about sabermetrics. Look, these guys will always say they are not behind (like Antony did in the strib interview), but when you have so many unbiased people reaching the same conclusion and such terrible results, you have to lean that way. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=29862
  24. It was time on May 15th for Berrios and Chargios. Every day they are not promoted is confirmation that Rob Antony should not be the next GM.
