  1. Seth, It won't let me reply directly on my mobile . But the two international signings that matter (Sano and Kepler) were under Bill Smith. The free agent guys Terry targeted were very different than Cleveland. They targeted guys with upside and they platoon them to maximize their value. So those things and the big flips are a pretty drastic difference IMO.
  2. Great article Nick. Terry never seemed to take that all of the above strategy. It was roughly the same approach year after year. The guys we signed on the international front, free agency had low ceilings.
  3. Dozier has to be traded. Stick Jorge at 2b.
  4. We need a 2-3 year plan. It involves a LOT of pitching prospects. I agree in principle, players over 27 Hold little value to us right now
  5. Also quite disturbing how involved St Peter seemed in all of this.
  6. Very nice to hear Antony is no longer in the running
  7. So middle of the pack. Oh.....these are just AL.
  8. I don't know how on earth anyone could bring Allen back. Same for Molly but I think that boat has sailed
  9. 103 losses and we get to keep the manager.
  10. This would be a classic move though. This guy was the number two over a period where we lost 90 games four times and 100 once, five of the last six years. Then you promote him two levels.
  11. I think we can close our eyes and pick any two of these external people and have a huge, enormous upgrade.
  12. I was hoping to see Ervin and Ervin alone penciled in. I get that we aren't going to release Gibson, but i just don't think anyone else can be penciled in this early when they have been that bad.
  13. Yeah. I can only imagine the morale of playing under this development staff, GM, and coach I am not naive enough to think we would be a ton better. But I am not dumb enough to think it had no impact I have been in organizations where leadership is clueless. There is a hopeless feeling that exists among the ranks. When you see Kurt Suzuki DH. Or Sano in RF. Or Polanco exclusively play 2b and then SS in the majors. I can't help but think that same feeling exists. Behind closed doors those conversations happen between players.
  14. Maybe the only conclusion is Molitor doesn't know what he is doing.
  15. He turned down a five year extension in Toronto because his job parameters shrunk. I am not sure why this job would appeal to him when he is being told before an interview he can't fire the manager. I am starting to believe Jim has been pulling more strings than we thought and TR was always the mouth piece. If TR was here for example, he would be the one who communicating that Paul will be back and we would think it doesn't make any sense. Now it does.
  16. Here is my analysis of the trade. The Vikes felt like they could have make a deep playoff run. Add to that that AP is getting older and this could be his last year here. Shaun Hill diminishes the likelihood of that. Bradford was available and the best and really only option. Dallas was in the same position so the price went through the roof. In addition, Bradford has two years left and nobody is certain Teddy can be back for next year. The Vikings won 10 games last year and should have won a playoff game. That was with Teddy throwing 200 yards a game and passing for just 14 TD’s in 16 games. Bradford is actually a step forward in that regard. He has averaged 230+ yards a game over his career and almost 260 per game last year. He has also never had a top 14 running game. When healthy and on the field, he has been better than Teddy. So the price was high but I think it almost needed to be done.
  17. Exactly. If we found an organization that has done more with less or more with the same than I would be more inclined. The Cardinals, according to this list have topped out on payroll about where the Twins did. In the $115-120m range. They have consistently been outside the top 8 and have a ton to show for it. http://www.stevetheump.com/Payrolls.htm#2013_payroll
  18. I would not have any concerns about a new approach. But he has had a payroll in the $135m range in Toronto. In 2013 and 2014 his payroll was $20m more than the league average. I don't think the Twins are in a position to move prospects for veterans, if they do they can't do it multiple times over a five year stretch. I think we would be tapped out relatively quickly.
  19. Let me first say that AA would be a huge talent upgrade over the rest of the front office. Part of me wonders if he is the absolute right fit given the way in which he went about himself in Toronto may not work here, the big splashy trades for veterans. The trade where he took on the contracts of Reyes and Mark B. for example just would not fly here. But the guy had the following win totals in the AL East, 85, 81, 73, 74, 83, and 93. The reality is he is probably smart enough to realize what worked there might not work here. The devil is going to be in the details. I hope during the interview process, the candidates get a look under the hood and some assurances from the Pohlad’s that they have the budget to make the necessary changes. He added 26 scouts to the payroll in Toronto (almost a 100% increase). Would the Pohlad’s be on board with that? What about doubling the analytics department and the front office? That is going to be the key. Someone posted the relative size of some of the front offices out there based on their team websites and compared to the Twins. It looks like a look under the hood will conclude for a new GM that this franchise has been running bare bones for a while now. That is probably as important of a change as if we land on AA vs. Cherington.
  20. These guys have literally no idea what they are doing. It is comical on the one hand but sad to watch guys like Buxton get jerked around at will. Look at his games played by league, up and down from league to league ever 100 at bats or so. They tinker with his swing but really don't know what to recommend or what he should work on. It is beyond sad.
  21. I agree with Brock's theme. We really need to wait this out. Had someone asked me on May 15th what needs to happen it would have started with: 1 - Fire Terry Ryan 2 - Put a third party in charge of the search and to provide general feedback 3 - Hire a baseball operations head They can still screw this up a few ways. They could hire an external adult supervision type and promote Antony to GM. Or they could promote St Peter to manage an external GM so the boat does not rock enough. Or simply make a bad hire or two. But let's wait and get mad IF one of those things happen.
  22. Agree Glunn. I would zero in on about 5-6 organizations and they would be top of the list.
