    You can't deny that he was WAY over hyped as a prospect. Not only was his velocity greatly exaggerated (throws upper 80's and low 90's at best), but the strikeouts have not materialized. This does not bode well for a #4 draft pick and the expectations when he was drafted by Minnesota. So yeah his floor is possible bust given where he was drafted and maybe #3 starter at best, unless things radically change. I HOPE he does well this season, but he certainly hasn't made a big splash yet compared to a guy named Berrios who was drafted 32! This year we'll know more.

    I hate to say it but i think your right. Given how Stewart has pitched so far, the lack of velocity and strikeouts i see his floor as total bust. I think he was way over-hyped as a prospect and the Twins took him hook line and sinker.

    I don't buy it. It's been 2+ years since his "concussion." Not sure when it became multiple concussions per the linked article but that's a story for a different day. By the way, Joe is off to an early start with the excuses for 2016. Not a good sign. I'm so sick and tired of Mauer's "aw shucks golly gee" routine. If your STILLLLl struggling with post concussion symptoms then it's time to retire already and stop whining to the fans and media about it. Stop wasting our time and walk away with your health intact. And as far as the strikeouts and pitch recognition go... maybe you would have significantly less k's if he you didn't STARE at the first pitch 100% of the time as it comes straight down broadway for strike one. Blurred is not isolated to post concussion symptoms. It can be linked to a change in your vision as you get older, starring at bright lights (the sun) too often and many other causes. Seems to me like this is all being carefully orchestrated to justify his decline in production. I just don't buy it, I just don't.

    The real travesty here is that Trevor May won't be starting for the Twins in 2016 if all the reports play out. That is sad. Duffey throws a two seam and four seam fastball, a killer curve and changeup. He rarely uses the changeup (less than 2%). Some people also say he throws a cutter but I couldn't find evidence oft that.

    Agreed. I hate this move, absolutely HATE it. Even if it's only a minor league signing with invite to ST this still means that he will be taking valuable playing time away from the prospects because he's a WISE AND WEATHERED veteran who happens to suck. I mean come on Terry! We have Kepler, Walker, Arcia, Buxton, all of whom have more talent and potential than this has been. Enough of the dumpster diving this is just stupid IMO.

    Congratulations on the birth of your son. That is one of the very few things that would make me walk away from MLB and the Twins; to be able to have kids of my own. Something my wife and I will never experience (due to health problems). What inspires me is on the field results. All of this happy talk is meaningless if the Twins don't win. Hopefully over the next couple of years enough of the prospects will succeed and come to fruition.

    Agreed Buxton is a TOTAL sucker for off-speed breaking ball pitches. Unless he develops an eye for recognizing those offerings he's going to continue to flail at those pitches and will not develop into the five tool savior everyone thinks he will. Sure he might steal some bases and make fantastic defensive plays in the outfield, but he will not be much more than a 4th outfielder at most. Sano on the other hand can knock the living snot out of the ball but has blown up to 270 lbs and is now expected to roam the outfield like a gazelle even though he's realistically 40-50 pounds overweight (which is a lot even for a man his size). Rosario or Buxton are going to have to cover a TON of ground in CF. Will be very interesting watching these two develop.

    I agree that if Nolasco is healthy in spring training that Ryan WILL trade him to someone. The question is how much salary will they have to cover. Unfortunately, i have to agree on Milone over May. As much as Trevor deserves a full season of starts it looks like Molitor has his heart set on May being a RP which is a bloody shame if you ask me. I'm not so sure Berrios debuts before fall. In my opinion there are too many guys in front of him for that to happen unless injuries decimate the rotation.

    Agreed. Duffey's curveball is straight up nasty and he can throw it for strikes if he wants to. He's also capable of throwing a good to plus changeup. And while his fastball only averages 91 it does top out at 94 with good movement. Tyler was known as a two pitch reliever at Rice University and with scouts, but in reality he's a four pitch pitcher (2seam FB, 4 seam FB, changeup & curveball). Good find on the Twins part. I think he'll get better and better with more experience. Great command for a pitcher his age.

    Someone is bound to step up this season from that group of bullpen prospects. Last season was an anomaly. There is way too much talent in AAA and AA for that to happen again this season unless the front office grows impatient and splurges on several rusty over the hill RP's.

    I'd rather see the club more or less sit tight for a couple of years so that we can shed some of the monstrous contracts (Mauer, Nolasco, Santana, Hughes) and be able to splurge in 3 to 4 years.. That said, if you see a integral piece in the meantime grab it.

    Okay, what you are saying makes sense. But if the Twins assign him to AAA and he refuses, he would still be on the 40 man roster and collecting his salary.

    Nolasco doesn't want to be here. He's made that abundantly clear. He hates Minnesota and the Twins and wants to return to California. He's basically said so without saying so via twitter. Can't the Twins outright him to AAA? He then has the right to either refuse the assignment and elect to become a free agent and forfeit his remaining contract or accept the assignment and stay with the Twins while they continue to pay him his remanding salary? Is that correct? Seems like both parties could choose to go their separate ways if they both are unhappy with this situation. Sure Ricky might be holding out for the remainder of his contract, but sheesh he holds all the cards. If your that unhappy GO! In no way shape or form should he be taking starts away from Duffey, May and eventually Berrios.

    Agreed, but neither did Morneau or Cuddyer when they were first called up. Sometimes it takes time for these guys to adjust. I think it would be a shame to let him walk away unless they see something fundamentally wrong with his game.

    I find it frustrating that the Twins seemingly have given up on Vargas. Sure he may be 25 and only one option left, but man the guy can club the ball.

    Agreed. With ALL of the relievers drafted the last two years, the Twins are bound to have a success story soon (preferably this season). We have a long list of names to choose from (Reed, Melotakis, Chargois, Burdii, Rogers, Darnell, Meyer, Berrios, etc.). Would it be a good idea to start Berrios and Meyer in the bullpen allowing them to gain experience at the major league level?

    "Twins are RUINING Meyer" Please provide proof of this statement. Alex Meyer has ALWAYS been wildly inconsistent in his minor league career with the Twins and Washington. Blanket statements like this are factually inaccurate. That said, his flameout last season shouldn't be a surprise to anyone given he was walking 4+ guys a game on a fairly consistent basis. It does not bode well for him that he has taken a big step backwards with his control and part of the reason he's fallen so far off the radar for the Twins. 2016 is a HUGE year for Alex. If he doesn't make a big turnaround this season he will have very little chance of ever being a starter with this franchise given he's 26 and counting. I think that there might be promise for him as a power reliever but that would be a big disappointment given how highly he was touted in the past. As of right now he shouldn't even be in the conversation for a major league rotation spot this year over Berrios, Duffey and May. I don't think the Twins had anything to do with that.     I don't think it's unreasonable thinking. My opinion is that Santana Hughes & Gibson are locks and solid starters. Hughes will be better this season there is no question in my mind. Nolasco is on the block. He might have a chance in ST to redeem himself if Ryan can't move him immediately, but I have a feeling that if Duffey, May & Milone out perform him, he's in the back of the pen. Meyer is off the radar IMO. He will have to fight his way back in AAA before having a shot at a rotation spot. Earliest I see that happening is mid 2017 with a solid full season at Rochester. That leads me to Milone and Gibson. Both are cost controlled and solid mid to back rotation starters. I would be listening to trade offers and offering them as potential chips. I am also of the opinion that Milone has value as a left hand bullpen specialist that we are searching for, assuming he will accept the assignment. We don't HAVE to have a lefty starter. That opens the way for May who should be a starter and Berrios. If either one falters you still have Milone and Rogers who by all accounts is a solid prospect.

    I don't see why the Twins can't go with option 2 to start the season with Milone in the pen as the lefty specialist. However, knowing he was unwilling to accept that role with Oakland it's probably best the Twins trade him when Berrios is ready. What would also be interesting is starting the season with May in the rotation and Berrios starting in the pen in a similar fashion to Johan Santana.

    Then the title should be changed to say "May should be bullpen bound" ....then he can advocate xyz.

    10% body fat?!? Really? No way! No disrespect and all but he's like 20-25% maybe more. There is no way he's 10% body fat. He'd have a well defined six pack at 10% and wouldn't be carrying around extra junk in the trunk (butt & thighs).

    If Duffey is relegated to the pen behind Nolasco and Milone after last season I think I'm gonna puke. It’s time to take the training wheels off and let the better pitchers pitch. That means Duffey & May start and Berrios is on standby for the next opportunity. If Tommy Milone is not willing to accept a BP role then it’s time to move on from him as well. Nolasco will not pitch anymore games as a starter for the Twins. The rest of your assessment seems pretty spot on. I cringe at the thought of a Sano, Rosario, Arcia outfield. Rosario will have to cover a TON of ground playing alongside two substantially slower outfielders, one of whom has very poor defensive instincts (Arcia).

    Yes, at age 22 and already 270lbs.? Yes, he's in trouble. I'm 6'-5" and 215. I didn't hit 200+ consistenly until I was around 30. I also played 3 sports (Football, soccer and tennis). If he can't control his weight at that age he's going to balloon to well over 300 by the time he's 30, if he's lucky. Now that would be okay if he was an offensive lineman possibly a tight end, but outfielder.....no way. I can tell right now that he isn't all muscle judging by the video. He's carrying around quite a bit of junk in the trunk and has a bit of a flat tire going. Twins need to sit him down and have a talk before this gets out of control.
