  1. The replay from the Gopher game was on at noon today, so this will probably get re-aired too.
  2. I honestly think we finish second in the division when it's all said and done. I don't think the pieces we trade away (Willingham, Morales, Correia) are enough to make the team worse. Now that we are back to playing in the division, we may actually get to .500. I don't see too many series within the division we aren't going to win because we tend to play well against Detroit. Sox, Indians, and Royals aren't any good. The only thing keeping them thinking they have a chance is because THEY also get to play so much in the division. But nobody dominates it enough to make a big difference when it comes to getting the second wild card.
  3. Ripken set a pretty high bar for anyone in the past few decades, and he's going to be very tough to beat for awhile. A-Rod should have, but he moved to third and well everything afterwards took him out of that discussion. Also thought Nomar was better than Jeter too, but obviously injuries left him completely forgotten and he wasn't on the Red Sox WS teams. Honus Wagner was pretty dominant though so he and Cal are too tough to call for myself.
  4. The new format was better, but the couple tiebreakers pretty much negated the time they saved by going to 7 outs per batter. With the new technology, maybe they should have the tiebreaker be longest home run or total distance so you can save that five to ten minutes on the spot. I also think if you bring your own pitcher, then you shouldn't have an excuse to take more than a couple pitches max. If you picked a bad pitcher that's your own fault.
  5. Bring back the trees at the batter's eye.
  6. So barring a disaster the rest of the way, KC will have as many quality starts on the season as Phil Hughes, and one ahead of Gibson (who both do have one less start at this point). Funny what a little patience will do if you let things play out instead of overreacting. Wish we'd score him a couple runs here though.
  7. The Nolasco deal is currently making the Pelfrey re-signing look like a steal. If you are going to get a near 6.00 ERA, don't overpay for it.
  8. Teams with a short season A (A- for sake of discussion) don't have a second Rookie League team. Teams with a second Rookie team (Twins have Elizabethton), won't have the A- team. But they are pretty much the same level.
  9. Burton seems to me like a guy that thrives under more pressure than not. It's the worthless, blow out games where he'll have a bad inning to bloat his ERA when in reality, those games are just "eating innings" anyway. But that's generally the case for all relievers and why they try not to use closers in non-save situations.
  10. More like unlucky Correia from April. He had an outfielder play a single into a triple, and he wouldn't have scored on Abreu's hit IMO. And Escobar's error has now led to a run and about 15-20 extra pitches thrown. An ugly 15-20 pitches, yes, but they shouldn't have been needed.
  11. Joe with his first RBI since May 27th! But don't set your expectations too high, the next one shouldn't come until after the All-Star game.
  12. Both Hicks and Gardy pretty much acknowledged when he made the switch to just hitting right handed that it was best to do so at AAA, but there simply weren't any other options in center at that time. Santana seems to be doing better by the day and Fuld returning give them the opportunity to do that.
  13. Agreed. It's between now and the All-Star game that we have to stay close, and thankfully the Tigers have come back to the rest of the division. Get past that and we'll see if we are buyers or sellers.
  14. Not sure where he ranks, but he's never shown up in the top five results for first baseman voting. The funny part is if he was still at catcher, even putting up his terrible numbers, he probably would be the "undeserving" guy that was going to get voted in ala Jeter. Then again in 1993, Kirby got voted in despite a slow start and won the All-Star game MVP, so sometimes the fans still get it right.
  15. I think Perkins, Hughes and Suzuki are almost automatic. Suzuki should start, especially being at home and the manager's getting to pick the starter with Weiters out. It's either him or Derek Norris as long as McCann doesn't slide in to win the vote. Dozier is finally starting to get some respect, but the Twins need to finish this month strong as Cano will probably start and Kinsler will make it even though Dozier has kind of become a "rich man's" version of Kinsler with solid homer and SB totals, but a lower batting average. Maybe Dozier will be one the of the final five vote guys for the fans to pick if he doesn't make it. With the web gems and 30/30 potential, the media could definitely push the fans to vote that way.
  16. Looks safe to me. Pretty big call here.
  17. Does it seem Santana gets nearly picked off on every single throw over? He may break Span's record for getting picked off on a regular basis. I noticed his SB percentage was pretty poor in the minors, but I wonder how many of those were spinning his wheels and getting picked off where he wasn't really attempting a steal.
  18. Maybe he only hits a double if he hits it over the fence and has to stop at second because he is tired.
  19. Kind of thought the Astros would be the perfect team for Deduno, but when he did throw good pitches, he couldn't miss any bats. Probably doesn't matter today as the offense doesn't look like it's going to score anyway. The one problem of having a good bench today is that all the bench players are in the lineup at once. But still early if Swarzak can hold them to one or zero here.
  20. Knew it had to be coming with Morales signing. I was so glad to see him get off to a hot start, but I think playing everyday in the outfield took it's toll on him. He wasn't really brought here to have to do that. Looks like he was 0 for his last 26, which is a tough way to end things. I was actually hoping he'd get to hit yesterday late, and maybe get one last hit.
  21. So despite Guerrier's 1.59 ERA over the past four weeks, people still want him gone, no questions asked? The guys been pretty great after his first two appearances.
  22. And Dick just said they sent Correia out for the sixth because we don't have 13 pitchers anymore? I miss the days with only 11 pitchers.
  23. Not at all like Marquis. Correia has pitched better than Nolasco and probably better than Gibson the last six weeks.
  24. One terrible missed pitch by the umpire, to the biggest villain in the game at that, and now it's turned into a game again. He can hold them the rest of the way though.
  25. Not bad for starting the inning with two outs and nobody on. Arcia reminds me a lot of Kubel ten years ago. Potential to hit .300, the balls jump off his bat for lots of extra base hits, about the same in the outfield speed and arm-wise, and you know you'll have to see a few clutch strikeouts along the way, but boy when he comes up big with runners on base it's worth it!
