  1. Hahaha. Billions of people will watch the World Cup. But whatever.
  2. If the goal is really championships.... They need to sell. This is not a team one or two players from a championship this year.
  3. I'd reverse that trade all day. But I think everyone questioned that one at the time.
  4. People want a team under .500 to deal top prospects, and even current young starters? Speechless.
  5. It's silly to say that a fan, who doesn't have data, should ignore all the rankings. Which is the posts we are discussing. Obviously if they think their players suck, and can trade them, they should. Lots of teams have traded guys that turned into all stars....I really don't get your point.
  6. I think if they are around .500, the owner will have them do something I don't like., like trade legit prospects for a run that doesn't come.
  7. You'd give up two top fifty to seventy prospects and a borderline top hundred guy? Glad you aren't the GM.
  8. None. I think you missed the point. I agree with you. I was disagreeing with the person who said they'll never spend like the dodgers....
  9. People constantly throwing out the straw man the twins will never spend the most money in baseball shows a lot about their weak arguments.
  10. EmRod is all about health, as I still think he can play, but I admit being less confident.
  11. Ya. A definite weakness of the stat. The play greatly increased the odds of the twins winning, so someone has to get credit..... But I'm not in love with how this works. But it's really hard to build models to measure every possible play in a sport.
  12. There are definite issues with the stat. It cannot measure that baserunning, for example. It only knows the outcome of the play, not why it came that way. It really is meant to measure how clutch a player was in the moment. For example, if the Twins score 8 runs in the first, but Lewis makes two outs that inning, and then hits four home runs later, he likely has zero wpa. But he has lots of positive war. Wpa figures what he did didn't matter that game, war measures value independent of the context, because it's trying to measure seasonal value.
  13. It's explained online, if you are interested. You don't get much value if you do stuff while your team is already ahead or behind by a lot. War is about what to do independent of that context. They measure different things.
  14. That and age and money. Some people will root for anyone.... Some won't.
  15. The argument that a playoff run is more valuable than a prospect might be true. That's why I think they don't sell.
