  6. Trying to change the subject to why Berrios isn't up instead of Tonkin or Fien, I see
  7. The increased injury risk of trying to do something at full speed that you've never done before should be a foregone conclusion. People spend lifetimes trying to get better at the skill they already know how to do well. Sano has never learned to play outfield now he's being asked to play it at full speed at the highest level but without any training or learning. It's much more likely than not that something will go wrong eventually as a direct result of that. Hopefully whatever happens to Sano isn't as bad as what happened to Schwarber.
  8. Yes. There is much more to playing outfield than just shagging flies in batting practice. Another way to think about it would be shooting baskets around a gym with a couple buddies, and then expecting that that's all it takes to go out and excel in a final four game.
  9. There is much more to it than that.
  10. somebody get on it (and by "somebody"........)
  11. That was the real stunner to me. Why pull Sano and then Mauer too? In a one run game? List of guys who have been pulled for pinch runners in first four games: Sano Mauer Dozier Supposedly all these guys are either fast, smart base runners, or both. Mauer and Dozier are All Stars. Sano will be. It makes no sense. Literally makes no sense. The extra split second a pinch runner *might* get to home plate *if* there's a close play isn't worth the cost of losing those players when their spots come up after another couple innings. Not in a regular season game, anyway. JMO. It's just not worth pulling those guys from a close game in April.
  12. Thanks for putting a smile on my face tonight

  15. The previous poster said it better than I could. I grant you there are differences. Even as pinch runners, you might see Plouffe replaced only with Nunez, who can stay in the game to play 3B, and Santana can enter a game in CF if Buxton comes out of a game, which ironically is not likely given the construction of the bench and Molitor's tendency not to use pinch hitters. I would call Nunez third string 3B behind Plouffe and Sano, and Santana as third string CF behind Buxton and Rosario, maybe even behind Mastroianni. We already have backups at those positions. If a middle infielder went on the DL, I would like to see Polanco called up, though I suppose either Nunez or Santana could fill in or trade off for a couple weeks.
  16. This reads more like a post about prejudice than ethnic diversity! Plenty of white people live in north Minneapolis though I can't speak for whatever street you live on.
  17. I admit it's a tricky subject. And if Sano gets hurt in right field, I expect everyone to take the same sides. I guess my issue with it is that guys like Schwarber and Sano are so far below average in some people's eyes, and learning on the fly, that some people question whether it's even worth the trouble putting them in the outfield at all. Same offseason debate was going on with the Cubs as here.
  18. Weren't you the one who started a thread about things to do in Minneapolis because you knew nothing about it?
  19. Sano? Because he made a running catch with his eyes closed Wednesday night?
  20. Meh, Mpls-St Paul area does have more melting pot stuff going on than you might think.
  21. I really like the Punto-Sano hitting-fielding comparison, by the way.
