    He was fooled by a Sale slider and tried to check his swing, but the pitch hit him in the knee/shin/thigh (didn't see where). Umps gave him the base instead of ringing him up on strikeout.

    It's the old... "Slow, poor hitting catchers cannot bat 9th" rule of thumb. Because slow, poor hitting catchers are always clogging the bases with their OBP and causing all the fast runners behind them to gain fewer bases. So that's why you bat them 8th.

    The owner calls his own franchise a "total system failure." When was the last time a team with total system failure made a deep postseason run?

    The Twins would never shop Mauer, and Mauer is a 10/5 guy who can refuse a trade. Mauer has been really good this year, both at the plate and in the field. Otherwise yes. Time to sell.

    You make a really good point about the prospects who have won championships in the minors. I don't think guys like that care about having veterans around or feel a veteran will teach them to win. I disagree with some of your conclusions on personnel (like Pressly) but agree that fixing this shouldn't be that complicated. Just play the best guys and play them in their positions. Unfortunately the Twins are needlessly making this look complicated.

    You are vastly overstating Meyer's struggles and ignoring times he has been very good.

    This only shows me that Meyer handles a demotion more maturely than a Pelfrey or Nolasco. May and Milone have handled demotions well, too. Is it time to think about a demotion for Hughes?

    Honestly that is what I hate so much about this. Not seeing the game tonight but I know Houston has taken some pretty bush league at bats this series, and we just continue to let them.

    Fifth inning and we're on our fourth pitcher. In all seriousness, I hope O'Rourke doesn't get marked unfavorably for this appearance. We could develop a very good skill in him as a left handed specialist, instead of using him as a fifth inning garbage guy who is needed to eat up innings.
