  1. That is probably true, as a matter of fact. And Bartolo Colon signed a minor league deal for 2018.
  2. On the other hand, Kepler is part of the chemistry of this team, and he could make a jump in how he hits lefties this year. As for Cobb, I just see him as the next best FA to Darvish. Lynn would not be a fit here except maybe a short 1-2 year deal and Arrieta is toast. Cobb is not a difference maker, no, but he would be 1 of our top 3 starters.
  3. It would seem a little desperate at this point to overpay in a trade, i.e., give up Kepler
  4. The Twins can still salvage their rotation woes. The whole Darvish thing feels like a con. 5/126 would have been a fair offer. Instead he signs for the same money but an additional year. How serious were they about signing him? I vote Cobb at 4/64 or a trade, but Orodizzi doesn't do mch for me; Archer does, but I'd really like to keep Kepler at this late point in the offseason with players reporting next week (or maybe already there)
  5. Very possible. With the OC moving on, the spell might have worn off this season.
  6. Nothing against Cousins, but I'm kind of liking Keenum, though. Keenum has that gunslinger quality like Farve did, that even some of the great quarterbacks don't have.
  7. 6/160 was my pain tolerance, but 5/140 works too. Might even work better for Darvish to get to free agency sooner?
  8. I think the Twins need to be prepared to offer that sixth year, if that's what is needed. The team will look so different by then that Darvishes last couple years will be an after thought (hopefully). It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  9. 5/85 or the Twins look elsewhere
  10. I expect something this week
  11. I'm thinking a Napoli contract is valued at one year, mid single digits, and I wonder if the Twins are prepared to offer that sixth year to Darvish. Getting him for five years would seem almost too good to be true.
  12. oh I am with you on that. But if that's the little extra it will take, you gotta do it.
  13. Yankees acquire Russell Wilson Yes, that Russell Wilson. Not for gimmicky reasons IMO, but nevertheless not likely to lead to anything other than some appearances during spring training. But the Twins play the Yankees a lot during ST so maybe we'll all get a look. (edit: only once in Ft Myers this spring)
  14. I think Duffey is a lock to start the season in the rotation now. He might surprise like he did in 2015.
  15. If someone is interested in this issue, I highly recommend an old Ben Lindbergh story from Grantland (he might have said or written something in the meantime, don't know). Not likely to persuade anyone whose mind is set. However I think it has aged well. http://grantland.com/features/ben-lindbergh-possibility-machines-replacing-umpires/ Shorter Lindbergh: We need home plate umpires to call the balls and strikes, but home plate umpires need the technology to do a better job. (or vice versa?) Also, I think we need fewer Jerry Crawfords in MLB (or anywhere else): Twenty minutes after each game, Crawford said, somebody would knock on the umpires room door and hand him a CD with the pitch video on it. "I threw it in the trash," Crawford said. http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/gil-lebreton/article105378146.html
  16. It's even good news from Santana's point of view, as his arm will be fresher later into the season and he will reach free agency a year soon than planned
  17. Hopefully the Twins new pitching analytics guys are working overtime.
  18. And for Gibson, I would write "Gib." in very light pencil Losing 6-10 starts is a bummer but could be worse
  19. Biden - we are talking about the former VPOTUS, correct? he does nothing for me. I guess Bernie fit my description, but he does nothing for me anymore either. (to Bernies credit he has still campaigned on issues across the US - at least as of this past summer he was) What do you think of Biden? How would he be kryptonite for Trump?
