  1. I never would have "given" him a spot in the rotation to begin with but at this point, maybe 2 more starts and if its more of the same. Maybe we can trade him to the Korean team for Albers back.
  2. I have no problem letting Meyer start in AAA and taking over for an innefective Deduno or Corriea.
  3. Mike Pelfrey 2013 5-13 W-L - 5.19 ERA - 1.55 WHIP - 10.8 H/9 - 3.1 BB/9 - 6 K/9 etc... Mike Pelfrey 2014 0-2 W-L - 7.84 ERA - 1.82 WHIP - 12 hits - 9 runs - 4 HR's - 6 SO - 7 Walks in 10 IP Wow, it's a good thing "we arent in the business of rehabilitating players for other teams", what a silly quote Twins FO. Yes its only 2 starts but its 2 starts exactly like the previous year. A straight as an arrow 94 mph fastball thrown 80% of the time. OMG I don't undrstand how Pelf is getting rocked with that combination. Deduno has had a couple real head scratching moments out of the pen (about as expected as Bartletts start as a SuperUte) for a player of his type coming out of the bullpen. There is no legitimate arguement against Pelfreys rotation spot should being given up to Deduno very very very soon. How long or how long of a leash should Pelfrey be getting? Im confused as to how he earned this leash to even begin with.
  4. While I think both Drew's offense & defense are slightly overrated, he is still a massive upgrade over Florimon & Santana is likely atleast 2 years away & Ploanco/Goodrum likely 3 makin g a 2-3 year deal fairly optimal. At this point though, I think a better plan of attack would be to let Escobar be the full time SS until May & evaluate how much of an upgrade Drew would be over Escobar. If Escobar is no better than Florimon then make the move on Drew after the draft.
  5. Kuuuuuuuubbbbbbbbb cred!
  6. I'd always hoped there was some way the Twins could snag him for an OF prospect to play SS. Imagine a future of #9 Hamilton, #1 Buxton, #2 Hicks. That speed would be insanely fun to watch. While I was higher on Revere than most I still understood his shortcomings but dang was he fun to watch in the same way.
  7. I think he'd be a better defender & hit better than Hicks did last year. That said he needs to play & do well in AA still. My thoughts are just that they think he's a lot closer than the fan perception of how fast the team will promote him. If he can bat 250-270 while playing good D & not be overmatched he's already better than 1/3 the starting lineup.
  8. I'm not going to freak out about Deduno throwing a wild pitch in his 1st appearance when it's 30 degrees out. However, this is exactly why he is not a great bullpen option. He belongs in the rotation & Pelfrey in AAA.
  9. Byron Buston & Alex Meyer are much closer to joining the team & will both make their MLB debuts this season. Alex Presley being DFA'd leaving Jason Bartlett as the 4th OF & only backup CF. Byron Buxton is only a injury away from being the starting CF. Barring another Hicks struggle, Hicks & Buxton are the starting LF/CF come September with Arcia in RF . Presley was not good enough to play CF regularly defensively. They have confidence in their corner OF options in Kubel, Collabello, & Parmelee in AAA & didnt need Presley there. Buxton is also about to bump Hicks over in 2015. Kyle Gibson being named the 5th SP with Deduno going to the pen. Gibson did pitch well in ST & earned it but no more than Deduno had earned a spot. Correia will surely be moved in a deadline deal if Deduno stays healthy & continues to pitch well in relief. Alex Meyer is the 2nd SP reinforcement (behind Deduno) in the case of injury/performance. He could very well force a Pelfrey trade if Pelfrey pitches well enough to not be banished to the pen or AAA on his own.
  10. This is where the top 3 round misses from the 2007-2012 drafts really hurt. 2012 1st JO Berrios & Luke Bard; 2nd Mason Melotakis & JT Chargois 2011 1st Hudson Boyd 2nd Madison Boer 3rd Cory Williams 2010 1st Alex Wimmers 3rd Pat Dean 2009 1st Kyle Gibson & Matt Bashore; 2nd Billy Bullock 3rd Ben Tootle 2008 1st Carlos Guiterez & Shooter Hunt 3rd Bobby Lanigan 2007 No pitchers taken in top 3 rounds Pitchers are always much harder to project & every team has misses but this is truly bad consectutive run of misses in the top rounds. Only Gibson is in the majors & Berrios has #2 starter potential. Dean, Boyd, Boer, & Melotakis could develop into solid mid to back of the rotation starters. Wimmers, Chargois, Bard, & Williams are all basically off the prospect map due to TJ injuries.
  11. I don't quite understand the false choice wording but if no other team is even willing to claim him & he's not good enough to make the Twins roster. What value does he have? Not enough to take up a roster spot & continue to get scorched by AAA hitters even. Honestly it seems somewhat obvious they wanted to put him in AAA & he was going to have to earn a starting spot there even & he had no interest so he asked to be traded/released. Otherwise why even try to reassign him after he cleared waivers over just outright cutting him.
  12. This is where "scouting" comes into play. Gibson has good movement & sink on his pitches, Worley throws the straightest fastball Ive ever seen. I have no idea how he had almost 2 solid debut seasons with the Phillies. Gibson missed 1.5 years on TJ, also which the first year back also widely considered to be a throw away year. He was still much more effective than Worley was in the minors last year. I have 0 issues with letting Worley walk for nothing, obviously if a single other team thought so they would have moved even a C level prospect for him.
  13. Im like Shane, I'd trade the likes of Corriea, Pelfrey, Duensing, Burton, Willingham, & Kubel as soon as possible for best propsect available. Specifically looking for 3B, C, & corner OF higher minor league depth. Starters/lineup: 2B-Dozier, LF-Presley, 1B-Mauer, 3B-Plouffe, RF-Arcia, DH-Collabelo/Parmelee, C-Pinto, CF-Hicks, SS-Escobar Bench: Suzuki, Mastroianni, Parmelee, & Florimon Starters: Nolasco, Hughes, Deduno, Gibson, Meyer Bullpen: Perkins, Fien, Swarzak, Pressly, Theilbar, K. Johnson, Tonkin Say Parmelee, Collabello, or even the new comers at the bottom of the pen flounder badly. You can find replacements players for them all year long from non contenders for C level prospects at most. Plenty of which you should have from the previous trades of those middling end of the career vets.
  14. Im very happy with this but how in the heck did Pelfrey earn a spot over Deduno.
  15. I still stand by my statement that Deduno will be the best starting pitcher on the staff this year.
  16. I haven't given up on signing Garza & moving Corriea. My dream off season season scenario still is. Signing Garza & Drew while trading Corriea, Burton, May, &or both Diamond/Worley for Dominic Brown & Papelbon's contract. 1) Garza 2) Nolasco 3) Hughes 4) Deduno 5) Gibson/Meyer CL) Perkins SU) Papelbon RHP) Fien, Swarzak, Tonkin LHP) Thielbar, Albers 1) Dozier 2) Drew 3) Mauer 4) Willingham/Kubel 5) Brown 6) Arcia 7) Plouffe/Sano 8) Pinto 9) Presley/Hicks
  17. I've thought for awhile Swarzak earned another chance to start. Deduno if healthy deserves to start the year in the rotation. With how well he pitched until his shoulder flared up it would be silly to just discount him completely. This means moving Corriea is a real possibility come ST, also they have little to no belief in Diamond & Worley. Duesning does get a little more heat than he deserves, he is pretty good against lefties and can get out the occasional righty. However at 2mill a year his value is diminished. Diamond is not a good candidate to replace him but Theilbar was pretty good last year & Albers can easily be a the 2nd loogy/long relief pitcher.
  18. Im sorry, Florimon is pretty good defensively but he is not in Simmons or Iglesias level. He has a good arm, very good range but misses to many gimme's. The consistency just isnt there to be at their elite level. its probably 1) Simmons 2) Simmons 3) Simmons 4) Simmons 5) Simmons 6) Simmons 7) Simmons 8) Iglesias 9) Iglesias 10) Igleasias . . . . 15) Florimon Simmons is that good.
  19. Bailey IP 109/132/208/209 ERA+ 91/89/112/110 WAR 0.4/0.4/2.5/3.2 Masterson IP 180/216/206/193 ERA+ 84/122/79/109 WAR 0.0/4.1/0.3/3.4 Lester IP 208/191/205/213 ERA+ 134/124/87/109 WAR 5.2/4.4/0.7/3.0 Shields IP 203/249/227/228 ERA+ 75/134/109/131 WAR -1.5/5.2/2.7/4.1 Garza 165-107-1.8 -------------------------------- Lester 204-113-3.3 Shields 227-112-2.6 Masterson 199-98-1.9 Bailey 165-101-1.6 Garza probably fits right in the middle of that group, Im not saying that he is surely better than the group, he isnt very far behind. When factoring in the extra contract cost & the 1st round pick. I think it's pretty safe to say those other available FA SP in 2015 likely won't be much of an upgrade over Garza if at all.
  20. Next years FA SP isn't really something worth waiting for.... All these top guys will be tendered and require a 1st rnd pick. Im assuming Sherzer & Kershaw are resigned. Bailey - There won't be a Tanaka to distract the big spenders. Masterson - A fairly equal comparison to Garza Lester - A nice #2 & close to Garza albeit a year older Shields - Can't see KC not resigning after giving up Myers for him -------------------------------------------------------------- Won't require a 1st round pick Gallardo - Maybe available if the Brewers buyout his 13 mill option which seems likely at this point. Peavy - Hurt way to much Considering the draft pick compensation, none of those pitchers are a true upgrade over Garza.
  21. I still would like to see if TR can get the Phillies to bite on an offer of Corriea, Burton, & May for Dominic Brown & Papelbon's contract opening a roster spot for Garza. They are desperate for cheap young SP & payroll space to sign a #5 & replacemetn closer.
  22. The problem is this also assumes that these rates are consistent throughout the season which obviously doesn't happen. With stretches of 2-3 straight weeks of starters crapping out early and Gardy going to the pen excessively. When that is followed by the pen getting crushed on flat pitches with depressed speeds. It can be obvious the pen is overworked even if it adds up to league average usage rates over the course of a season.
  23. I think it's pretty much a guarantee Hicks, Sano, & Meyer all start in AAA. Counting on them for a successful 2014 is being very optimistic. I just don't see any chance for this improved staff to improve with Willingham, Kubel, & Arcia manning the corners. Pressley doesn't have the range to make up for it. The BABIP is going to be atrocious on fly balls. 2015 can't come quick enough for this pitching staff to have a chance.
  24. If I was Boston, I would outbid the Yankees on Tanaka who want him desperately. Then flip both Lester & Lackey who are in their final years to teams other than the Yankees who need a SP & lost out on Tanaka.
  25. Any HS/College player from the US is eligible to be drafted. IF they are undrafted they are free to sign any FA deal. IF the draftee fails to sign that year they can play over seas or in independent leagues & re-enter the draft next season. The team then gets a comp pick for not signing the player. I believe that if that process plays out a 2nd year in a row they would be a FA going into the 3rd year. Im not positive about that rule.
