    Kubel & Collabello gave the lineup some really great depth to start the season when it was desperately needed. Great stories that unfortunately didn't last. Arcia and Willingham have come back at the perfect time, hopefully Hammer doesn't fade as these two have.

    Such a great instinctive play by Dozier. No way he is ever moving off 2nd, the guy just continues to amaze the way he has transformed his game.

    Hicks barely played let alone dominated AAA like May has. That's what makes the way they promote players so confounding. They force feed others who show haven't showed they are ready yet coddle and hold back others who dominate at the highest level.

    The point was not showing physical emotion doesn't mean you don't care & it sounds awfully like wife nagging when guys dont wear it on their sleeve. Yes if you equate Mauer not showing it to meaning he doesnt care your acting just like that nagging wife.

    A player not showing emotion being equated to not caring. Let me lay out a little example here of the person your behaving like. Its your kids first day at school, your wife/gf is pacing the floor full of anxiety in omg what if this or this or this happens blah blah blah. Basically just freaking out all day & here you are, the calm father understanding this is normal & yes anything can happen but your not going to allow a normal situation rule your emotion. Then you get the "how can you not be freaking out too, whats wrong with you, why don't you care!?!?!?!?!" You care, your just not freaking crazy. Those who are so hellbent on assuming Mauer not wearing his emotion on the sleeve = not caring. Yes your being that person, you've officially become your crazy significant other.

    Nola's upside is being downplayed. People are so afraid of the word safe given the FO history there's overreaction to Nola being tagged with the term "safe". I'd put his upside higher than Gibson who I view as a solid 2 in the future. How great would it be if they took Nola & Hoffman fell to their 2nd pick.

    Nice article. good read. It had to be known when the OF was going to consist of Willinham/Hicks/Arcia & Kubel it was going to be much harder on the pitchers. That defense is terrible. Hicks has all the tools but is a very average CF at best right now. Thats a brutal defense and not even considering the parade of AAAA middle infielders manning so much OF time. It really makes you have to look at some of these stats that don't account for the atrocious "Twins baseball" defense.

    These type of remarks smack of just wanting to assign general blame with out any real evidence or statistical analysis. It's probably pretty hard to be a fiery team when the pitching staff your GM acquired is one of the worst in all of baseball 3 straight years. Come on guys, we're only down 8 runs in the 3rd inning, let's get fired up!

    Mauer needs to be better but where do people get that this is Mauer's team? Because he did a Head & Shoulders commercial with Troy Polamaulu. Mauer hasn't been much of a contributor but offense is what top 10 in baseball in runs scored. The problem hasn't been Mauer. It's been Nolasco, Pukefrey, Crappiea, Burton. The offense is coming more into concern with Collabello & Kubel turning back into pumpkins but Arcia & Hammer are back.

    These are the days I wish sports gambling was legal here. I'd be dropping Hundos on the Twins after hearing about MoonshotScott was taking Darvish's place.

    Perkins doesn't even make that. Burton, Duensing, & their combined 5 mill will def be off the books next year.

    While his hot start isnt going to last, he's still valuable. If you can strike now and ensure he returns next season to catch 60-80 games to get a little more team friendly extension that's more than worthwhile. He isnt going to fetch a prospect to contribute more than the value he will give. With the way catching every day wears down players & saps power. Having Pinto catch 80-100 games and DH another 20-40 would be ideal for the next year or 2 in my opinion.

    I can't see Corriea having no trade value, as much as I hated the signing he has for the most part been pretty solid for a #4-5 & not just a decent month & a half at the end of the year in garbage time like Pelfrey. I don't think your going to get enough value prospect wise for him to make a move worthwhile. That said, it would sure be nice if there was a way to find a team desperate for pitching due to injuries (Hello Rangers) and see if you can simply find a team to take on Pelfrey's contract for Corriea & Willingham. Clearing up some 40 man roster space. Maybe the Dbacks or any other needy pen would bite on taking Burton if offered with Duensing for a guy like Tony Campana to be a another backup CF option this team is suddenly very lacking in. Meyer, May, Darnell, Tonkin, Parmelee all should be on the MLB roster by July. They could be the shot in the arm the team needs to stay above 500 and at least put a little scare into the Tigers while the team is learning to win together.

    Love Posnanski's work, one of the best writers in baseball. Not a fan of the intentional walk either. Unless your Rick Vaughn walking to face Jack Parkman there are few situations it really makes sense.

    No problem with Arcia being optioned for 2-3 weeks. he's missed enough games where it will do him some good for a short time. It's very likely the situation will sort itself out with a a OF getting hurt or remaining unproductive not being able to break out of a slump. Just DFA Hammer and be done with it. Hicks stays until Fuld is healthy then is sent down. Santana goes down once Arcia is called back up. I like Nunez as the 25th guy with Parm, Kubel, Arcia eventually being the other OF on the roster. Can TR not find a team needing a reliever & flip one for a backup CF? I hope by July they are moving or straight up DFA guys like Corriea, Burton, Duensing, Willingham so we can see Meyer, May, Darnell, Escobar, & Parm in the second half & not just in September. May especialy really seems to be putting himself back on the top prospect radar.

    This is the beauty of Baseball & long seasons. Its always a balance pitchers adjusting to the hitters and the hitters making adjustments to those adjustments in how they are pitched to. With the new approach this was fully expected, the challenge will be for Bruno to help these guys adjust to the new approaches they are seeing. This is why talent + hard work always wins out.

    Yes, much much too early. He is by far their best chance at a 2 way SS in the system & not a terrible one.
