  1. If the Twin's were to pass on Collins I'd be pissed. I'm not as worried about him sticking at catcher though. They probably will not get the chance to draft him anyways. Outside of that I'd take the pitcher with the highest ceiling. At fifteen they're not going to be a perfect prospect, but that's fine with me. Even if it's another reliever.
  2. Who did you ask? Personally I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to sign someone. If you fail you have the 16th pick next year with likely a top 3 pick. Not a bad position to be in. I appreciate your draft coverage by the way.
  3. Well worth the risk if you ask me. Is it harder to develop hitting skills or receiving skills? Worst case scenario he takes over for Mauer when his contract is up. Or maybe DH/back up catcher.
  4. St. Peter didn't get a very good TV deal. It's the most important part of his job. Considering he failed at that he would have to be excellent at everything else to be considered a good president. I'd give the Red Sox more credit for the improvements at Hammond than the Twins, so I'm not willing to count that. He did help fleece Minnesota tax payers which would be seen as a positive to ownership though. From a fans perspective there's little to like about the front office these days.
  5. The right move here was to leave Buxton in AAA and work out his issues while gaining a year of team control. This is another stupid decision. Sure it's possible it doesn't completely blow up in their faces, but why take the risk?
  6. This group doesn't look to promising. Anything can happen, but there's no one to be too excited about. Hopefully the Twins get luck and Zack Collins falls to them in the draft.
  7. This is really not the roster you want to have in what should be year 5 of the rebuild. Molitor doesn't seem to realize what kind of team he is managing. Normally I'd never expect the Twins to fire a manager mid-season, but they may not have a choice. Unless the front office is on board with his decisions. That would be even more concerning.
  8. When you use quotation marks you need to be accurate. The entire argument you just made isn't even based on what I wrote. Which is basically, signing players after a career year is bad practice. I tried to use examples that showed the Twins doing that where it was not necessary. They could of waited on any of those contracts. Of course people could disagree with my premise. Perhaps Mauer and Dozier would of ended up with similar money anyways. It really doesn't matter though.
  9. I agree that they should shut him down. Might as well have him healthy next year. This is really the product of a much bigger problem though. The Twins seem to like to sign contracts with players after career years. Mauer, Suzuki, Hughes, and Dozier come to mind. That's just bad business. Hell, I avoid taking players in fantasy baseball after they have a career year. The Twins are not a team that can afford to overpay for players.
  10. Thank you. It all seems worth it now. We probably should of made sure Ryan's phone works while we were at it. Maybe he spent the offseason trying to get through to the operator.
  11. I like the line up with Buxton at the bottom since you can get his speed on base for the top of the lineup. Still though, it has to be humbling to go from being the top prospect in baseball to batting after the pitcher.
  12. Glad to have him back. He knows baseball and has a ton of credibility. I'm sure young players will love working with him.
  13. I was resigned to Joe being the hitter we've seen the last couple of years. It is great to see him hitting like this again. Maybe the weight training in the offseason and another year away from the concussions did the trick? The best part is seeing that Joe is coming up to bat and being happy about it. Just like old times. Not to mention it's a huge boon to the team. I just hope we're not jinxing it
  14. I'd agree with your assessment of Stewart's last year and that the Twins have been aggressive with promotions lately. Starting him in A+ ball is not unreasonable, it's just not where I think he should of started. What I was saying is that dominating A+ ball in your second year through it isn't as impressive as doing it the first year. It's still a good thing of course. It just doesn't scream ace to me. The title of this report is "Kohl Stewart looks like an ace".
  15. Glad to see Stewart doing well. The only problem is that he's repeating the level. Takes a bit of the shine off the performance. I really don't see why they didn't start him in AA this year. Doesn't really matter much when looking at the bigger picture I guess.
  16. Yay! Hardest win out of the way. Same goes for Vanimal
  17. I like these reports quite a bit. It's nice to see how are prospects are doing and I appreciate the work. If you want to improve them you could give the players random nicknames for fun. Kohl "Texas Toast" Stewart?
  18. Interesting opening day. Yay, the rains over, let's watch some baseball. Watch Tillman look unhittable and Santana look very hittable for two innings. Yay rain delay.
  19. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOlasco. I was rooting against you this spring, but you pulled it out with a 4.05 era and an impressive 1.43 WHIP. I'm sure that will lead to a successful regular season
  20. Luckily the Twins noticed this problem 3 years ago and drafted guys that can strike people out. We should start seeing them this year and I'm excited to see it. Not that they couldn't of signed one more during the offseason, but it's not the end of the world. I'm a lot more worried about the future rotation.
  21. If history has taught us anything he will be claimed by another team and then put back on waivers. He should go through about 3 or 4 teams and be pitching by the all star break. My money is on him ending up on the Toronto AAA affiliate.
  22. Not quite. There's 3 things that can happen if he refuses assignment. You're right about the first one. The second is if he go's unclaimed he can just not play. He get's paid to not play, but the Twins still control his rights. The third is that Nolasco can choose free agency. He forfeits his contract if he does that, so it would never happen.
  23. That's the kind of thinking that caused the Russians all their problems Nolasco has never done anything worth rooting for. He signed a big contract and has pitched badly since day 1. I seem to remember him complaining a little along the way as well. Really I mean play well in spring training. If by some kind of miracle he were to actually have a good season I would not be mad about it
  24. Am I the only one who doesn't want to see Nolasco do well? I'd hate for him to win the 5th starter job and then have to watch him pitch 100 innings before the Twins give up on him again.
