You mentioned - in passing - something I would suggest that you add - how about the Twins fielder of the month. Let's look at some good gloves to balance out the Cesar's that make this hitting list.

Article: HOU 11, MIN 0: Completely Dominated
mikelink45 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Bring back Baltimore. I believe the HR rate is dropping, but the real concern is not that a very good pitcher stymied the lineup, but rather the trend of Pineda's starts, Magill looking back in consecutive games and Mejia continuing a season where he looks like he should be in AAA. Those three are keys for us going forward unless we have more magic we can use to rescue the BP. I continue to hope Pineda gets this turned around because I know the team is going to give him a long leash. Is Magill doing something different from last year? Who is next for the call up to the pen?- 46 replies

Article: Is Royce Lewis Baseball's Best Prospect?
mikelink45 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I do not have an opinion on this because I do not value that ranking - I am pleased that he is a good prospect. Buxton was our number one and how long has it taken for him to be productive and starting to move towards stardom? What bothers me is that our top two (that ranking I do care about) have not produced. I am very anxious for Kiriloff to be back on the field. After losing one year already we really need to see him stay healthy and hopefully a Twin sometime in 2020. I had hoped that Lewis would be one of those professional teens - we have seen that in DC and Atlanta and other young guys are making their mark now too - like Tatis. But Lewis is not knocking the door down and that is what I would be expecting if he was really the number one prospect for all of MLB. -

This was the most satisfying game of the year for me. Being old school a 1 - 0 game was significant. No late inning collapse, tight games are the ones that lead to championships. The bombs in Baltimore series was fun, but lets build off this one - two good teams playing toe to toe.- 87 replies

No argument, but it the Orioles are not the team we should be judged by.

This is so fun. But I had to curb some of my enthusiasm when I realize we are 10 - 9 against the rest of the league. We are a good club and we have a chance. But after tomorrow - no more Baltimore this season. So lets say good bye with five more dingers.

The Twins move to drop Cave and go with the three person bench has to be discouraging to players like Wade and others looking for a chance at the big leagues. This is one reason I am happy to have the teams pull up lots of players in September. They all deserve to have a chance. I do hope something changes to create a bench again.

I hope we do not do anymore starter to reliever moves like we did with Romero - I consider it to be the Sano to RF move among pitchers and I hope he can get things straightened out Meanwhile keep the starters starting and getting lots of innings. We seem to have some interesting starters and it will be good to see them moving up.

I am not sure how we can complain after the last 5 - 6 years. I agree with Yarnivek1972. It is up to us to prove relevancy. We just got done playing the Orioles and the Blue Jays who have a combined record of 19 - 27 and we have also played the Royals and Tigers who are 17 - 25. We have played 19 games and 12 of them have come against these juggernauts. I love the enthusiasm, but after Berrios who do you believe in? After Hildy and Rogers who do you trust? Those four teams have a run differential of (- 72) so we are not the only ones to hit the ball against them. Lets wait until June and if we are still pushing first the National Press will start to notice.

My concern is the bullpen overuse. Yes Rogers and Hildenberg look really good, but the season is young and already we are seeing them accumulate more than their fair share of innings and appearances. It is what Molitor was condemned for, but I understand - when you have only a couple you really trust there is a real tendency to keep going to them. But there is a bench coach and a pitching coach that need to help put the brakes on. We need them at the end of the season with live arms.

I hardly recognize anyone in the Oriole's lineup, of course that was true of the Blue Jays too. I liked the way our bats played, but not our pitching. Romero disappointed and Perez against that lineup did not look good either. He made innings, but again - look at their lineup. But our bats really made noise and that is so fun. Sano must be chomping at the bit to get back with the team.

Our team offensive WAR is 3.0 fWAR, Polanco has 1.2 and Garver and Rosario 0.6. Cleveland has -0.6 fWAR lead by Santana with 0.9 Royals 2.6 fWAR (and a lot of people laughed at their speedy lineup) Alex Gordon leads with 1.0 WAR Tigers -0.3 fWAR with Niko Goodrum 0.4 the leader. White Sox 1.6 WAR - Tim Anderson is 1.2 So yes - our lineup is the best in our division (no comparisons with other divisions!) Pitching fWAR White Sox = 1.1 Twins = 2.6 Tigers = 2.6 Who would have thought! Royals = 0.5 Indians = 3.6 We have a decent lineup - and our pitching is holding up, but the Indians pitching is the difference. In the full MLB rankings by positions we are 17 in starting pitching and we are low at every IF spot except SS where Polanco ranks first and we rank #18 overall in OF. It is easy to root for our hometown players, but on the big screen we are looking like a middle of the pack - .500 team at this point.

My issue with Rocco is when he sits Cruz. Down the line maybe Cruz will need a day off, but his job is simply to swing the bat and at this point in the season Cruz should always be in the mix. Somehow he had a day off and we lost, we pinch hit Ehire and not Cruz and we lost. Coincidence? He is the big bopper and we should not be using his spot to give other players a start.

Dozier has a -0.5 war and 193 average with one HR. When you look at what he did last year we are lucky we got anything for him.

Article: A Twins Mainstay Dying Before Our Eyes?
mikelink45 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They do not worry about launch angle screwing up their swings. We used to have teams with players who got on base, players who moved them forward and players who drove them in. Are we now at a point where all players are supposed to do the same thing?- 26 replies

Article: NYM 9, MIN 6: Forever of a 5th Inning
mikelink45 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Did I miss something? Why Adrianza as PH instead of Nelson Cruz? Help me understand. Does Cruz have an allergy towards NL parks? Is Adrianza developing a new reputation despite his 125 BA? Yes a HR would not have given us the lead, but it would have made us a lot closer and the top of the lineup was coming up. -
Article: Hello? Rochester... Please Send Help
mikelink45 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lots of strange decisions. I feel like the Romero experiment is like the Sano to the OF experiment. Let Romero start and get him up here. Odorizzi is now in his second year of proving he cannot go more than 4 innings. Rookie relievers need to get settled and DeJong and Vasquez got crushed instead. Then there is the Ehire pinch hit with Nelson Cruz on the bench. So much to confuse this old brain.- 96 replies

Article: MIN 14, NYM 8: Beating the Best
mikelink45 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As another old timer on this site I have to speak for Gibson - he might be the best pitcher I ever saw and I attended a number of Koufax games. Give me Gibson, Spahn, Marichal and Koufax and we would settle for 150 wins - in the old 154 game seasons. Gibson dominated, intimidated and caused MLB to lower the mound because they did not think it was fair to the hitters when he was out there. -
Article: Tyler Austin Traded to San Francisco
mikelink45 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not really a very significant move, but at least we have another live body in the system. This is the kind of non-event that fills the fringe of mlb. I feel bad for Austin, he really needs a chance and I am not sure this is where he will get it. But from the Twins standpoint it really does not matter. We are set at the only places he could have contributed. -
I know we want to play all our players, but Polanco on the bench? Give me a break - don't give Philadelphia a break. Get our bats in the lineup.

Good report, but I am in a fog of confusion - Not Littell, but DeJong? The result is Austin is DFA'd. The team is left with a bullpen game and in the bullpen is Fernando Romero who might have given them a good start, but we are intent on taking a good starting pitcher, messing with him and forcing him to the pen.
