  1. Twins definitely had the advantage of being familar with Sims. Especially Jeffers, who probally knows him inside out. IMO, Sims has to be going through some mental hurdles, after being traded, doing well & still be DFAed & then demoted to AAA
  2. Maybe long relief (hybrid) isn't as glamourous as being a SP or a high leverage RP, but IMO, it's just as important. Overextending our SPs & burning out our short RPs is a recipe for going 20 some years w/o a play-off win & not going as far as we could have; because our pitching have been shot, come playoffs, There are many great SPs that started out in the pen. Put Raya in the MLB pen. Let him get a feel of the MLB, strengthen his arm while not overdoing it. IMO, he'll become a very good SP but keep him in the pen as long relief & some spot starts where we need him. I'm a firm believer in having our young SPs pitch long relief in the MLB & give them as many innings as they can take & not waste their bullets in AAA. This one thing I like the CWS are doing, they are pitching their young SPs in the pen & winning. They are surprising many pundits but not me.
  3. I've been more excited about Lackey than any other draft prospect for as long as I can remember, because Lackey is the real deal, he could come up fairly soon & fits a real need. My fear is that TB will take him before he gets to the Twins' selection. If Twins land Lackey, IMO, it'd be a successful draft.
  4. I'm not crazy about trading for prospects unless they fit a need & are MLB-ready. I'm ok about trading prospects & or MLB players that are redundant to fill our immediate need that is where the focus has to be. My hope is Zoll can be a good trader but he needs to break away & find himself.
  5. Twins has been a shipwreck. It has been very frustrating with no anchor. They're still bad but they're are showing some promise with Gomez, Morris & Pareda; I'd like Rojas, Pareda & Morris in long relief spot start. With hope that Raya can step up & Fiesta & Sands return from the IL & be effective. We still desperately need an anchor, JD mentioned Paddock, he could be great in short relief role.
  6. At the deadline, Taj Bradley was the only trade that I really approved of. Happy he's proving me right. Twins seems to use too many of our best RPs in low-leverage situations & too many poorer RPs in higher-leverage situations. Why use Gomes & Morris in basically a mop up condition? I know Lawyerson made us worry a little but still I'd used lower-leverage RPs here, to save Morris & Gomes for NYY.
  7. Past philosophy of big bats is everything while striking out, fundamentals & defense isn't important, have really hurt the Twins. Besides losing a ton of games, the games became more boring. Playing the game the way it should be played with spectacular defense, there's nothing more entertaining.
  8. Good job, Cody. I like his bat but his defense still is lacking which costs us runs
  9. I'd love for the Twins to trade for a good RP or 2. So we can see what this team can do with a somewhat decent BP. Please no more prospects especially those who are a long way away. We still need a promising young MLB-ready catcher, I'd love to finally pick one up.
  10. TOR saw SWR needed rest, so they gave it to him & he rewarded them with some scoreless innings. They needed someone who could pitch more often & he got crowded out. Our BP is still a big mess so yeah, I'd take SWR back w/o a doubt, IMO, he'll be back with pitching more often & even could pitch in the rotation eventually if needed. I didn't like how the Twins handled SWR. Will Twins admit their mistake & take him back? I hope so but doubt it.
  11. What I mean by eating innings, is not a mop up situation, but having a few quality innings in a game. .
  12. Patience is the key with those who are good hitters, they usually adapt & come around. Some have a lot of patience with those who aren't & not enough with those who are.
  13. With the condition of the pen, there shouldn't be any question of Morris staying up with the club. But our greatest need for Morris is to pitch long relief, not short. We need a RP or 2, who can eat innings, Morris can do that.
  14. Twins past bad philosophy of hiding poor fielders at 2B has hurt the team. The bar is much lower in RF, so yeah Keaschal is a better RFer than 2Bman. They should have started Keaschal at 1B last year & ease him at RFer this year.
  15. The sell-off was very disappointing, it never really met our needs, while completely reduce the BP to rubble. You could debate the trades were fair but for the deadline I'd expect a killing. The main headliner for the Varland trade was Rodon (like we needed another LH hitting cOFer). If we kept Varland, we'd have won the good majority of our close games we lost & be leading the division. You can't expect to do anything with a BP with no foundation. Throwing crap against the wall isn't a valid solution to our big problem. Our INF defense was our 2nd worst problem. They moved Lee off SS, Lee & Lewis have done much better defensively & offensively since being moved off their original position, Finally they moved Keaschal off 2B, which was their biggest improve. They are still far from great but they're much better than they were. I like this team but letting Falvey go after the offseason was too late to make any move to make up for the blunders. I'd like the Twins to sell & buy. I'd like to keep all our veterans, but it doesn't make much sense to keep Jeffers under his circumstances. I'd love the Twins go after Chapman as soon as possible, Peralta is also on my list as well as a promising MLB-ready catcher.
  16. Bradley pitched a great game, it's a shame that the BP blew the win for him. They should never put Banda in with runners on base, but they still do & we suffer for it!? I've stated that we need more clutch hitting & I'm rebutted with Twins good BA with runners in scoring position. IMO, clutch hitting is more than that, it's hitting when the game is on the line. It amazes than last night was the 1st walk off hit of the season, with the season almost 1/2 over.
  17. Brian Dozier Played Through a Severe Bone Bruise in 2018 In 2018, Brian Dozier — acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline — was widely reported to have played through a severe bone bruise in his right knee for the entire season Dodgers Nation+1. The injury, sustained earlier in the year while with the Minnesota Twins, was confirmed by Jon Heyman of Fancred and later cited by multiple outlets as a factor in Dozier’s uncharacteristic performance Dodgers Nation+2. How the injury affected his season Performance drop: Dozier hit just .218/.306/.391 with 21 home runs and 12 steals over parts of the season, his lowest OPS (.696) in any full season to date Dodgers Nation+1. Swing adjustments: He admitted to developing “bad habits” at the plate while compensating for the knee soreness, which limited his power and consistency MLB Trade Rumors+1. Both Polanco & Dozier suffered from a bruised bone in their knees the last year they played for the Twins. A bruised bone isn't necessarily serious, when taken cared of immediately with weeks of complete rest & treatment. But is serious if neglected. Both played regularly for many weeks while it was obvious by their performance that they should be on the IL. Neither fully came back. True Polanco played 2 yrs at SS with bad ankles but bounced back w/o going on the IL. Polanco never landed on the IL in the MLB until he hurt back in '22 but bounced back. Then he bruised his knee & didn't go on the IL until he could hardly take the field & the season was over.
  18. Houston has MLB GG defense that translates very well; any hitting is gravy. I like where he's at & Twins future at SS.
  19. When you trade away a player who has a lot of heart for the team, it's almost always a lose/ lose proposition. Both Dozier & Polanco played hurt, to their detriment. They should have been better managed.
  20. Some players make easy plays look difficult. I wasn't surprised by the results. For years the Twins focused only on big bats & ignored defense. especially 2B. Dozier was great but 2B has been terrible since with Arraez, Julien & Keaschal. They got nothing for Dozier in trade, Dozier loved MN, they could have extended him easily, he could have played 2B until Polanco would take his place, he'd then moved to 1B. Twins never took good care of them, they abused their heart for the team & ended up wrecking them. When Martin was ready, he could have started to hone his skill at 2B. Dozier could have moved to DH after Cruz, Polanco could be extended & move to 1B. Instead of the Twins being disappointing at 2B, 1B & DH, they could be at the top, w/o dipping into expensive FA. Twins do not value heart & are quick to trade it away & have suffered for it.
  21. The play that threw out Martin at home, Martin did nothing wrong. Odds were that Martin should have scored, but Edman made an excellent play, getting rid of the ball to the rushing cut-off man, that made a good throw home. Martin's back was toward the play, it's the 3rd coach responsibility to stop him. Many varibles are involved to make that play. Any one of the them that would have delayed a split second, Martin would have been safe.
  22. Agree, There is no doubt that Wallner can hit AAA. I'm afraid he'll be stewing there longer until he gets really angry & start to be a MLBer or he'll get frustrated & lose it. I hope for the prior. Being an INFer converted to OFer, Martin has gone through a lot with MN, from at the plate & in the field yet he keeps bouncing back. He has character, is a good hitter with a good eye & athletic. I don't get fans so quick to give up on him. He probably won't be a star but his character, bat & glove could always be an asset. He'll adjust; just be patient.
  23. Zebby pitched a fine 6 innings game, the BP kept the LAD scoreless for 3 innings. Twins needed their offense to step up but only got 3 hits by Buxton (HR), Lewis & Martin. LAD had their superb defense going, so Twins shouldn't hang their heads on this one. Good game Twins, we just came up short.
  24. Very true, it's a small sample size. Even though he got a breather & was converted to the BP (where he should've placed there sooner with the Twins), I didn't expect him to do as well as he has. It's very unlikely that Sims can maintain this performance but he has proven himself as a pitcher that adjusts during the game & can get batters out without great stuff. It was just a matter of time before he'd get back in sinc again when managed properly. It saddens me that both Varland & SWR were sold short, both would have fit nicely in this crippled BP. TOR did a good job in helping both to adjust to a new organization & they could very likely found something to improve their pitching.
