  1. Yes. I was a single parent of two daughters. Hardest thing I've every done.
  2. Puppies? Kittens? Puppies and kittens?
  3. My kids are all in their mid-thirties. And no, it doesn't get any easier. I keep thinking it will, some day. Maybe.
  4. If you get a chance, look up Rosalyn playing Calvinball with Calvin. It's a hoot.
  5. I'm not sure what my expectations should be for the Twins after the break. I'm leaning toward the Twins going on a tear and putting the hurt on all of the contenders.
  6. Good on Molitor leaving Duffey in the game to work through his struggles.
  7. I love a well pitched well played baseball game....however, this is not one of them.
  8. As far as sharks are concerned, we ARE raw meat swimming.
  9. Funny story about Chuck Norris: Two guys tried to rob Norris at knife point. After Mr. Norris busted them both up, the cops asked the robbers why they thought it was a good idea to rob Chuck Norris. Evidently, one of the the robbers said they thought all the karate stuff done by Norris was fake.
  10. Considering how Sally Struthers has bulked up over the years, she might very well be the biggest star in Hollywood.
  11. "3. Fireworks – 4th of July 2013… Our Neighbor purchased about $2,000 worth of fireworks. He got drunk and set them off all night long. I believe he finally passed out about 5AM because that’s when all the bang and sizzling sounds stopped. The next morning he is upset with ME because I woke him up when I was mowing my lawn at 10AM. I suppose I could have mowed around him but it would have left a strange outline in my grass." Our neighbors decided to practice last night in preparation for tonight. As you are probably aware, dogs don't really like loud explosions and our dogs are no exception. On top of that, there are probably as many dogs as there are people in our neighborhood. Our neighbors suck on a good day. Today is not going to be a good day. And it won't matter that a lot of us need to be up at 4 to 5 am to get to work. The neighbors will probably set off fireworks until midnight anyway.
  12. Okay, that was odd. Dozier hit two home runs, one with men on base. A Twins starting pitcher pitched into the 7th without giving up any runs after the Twins scored. Heck, the Twins starter didn't allow any runs. The bullpen did the job. I was watching the Twins, right?
  13. You have opened brand new vistas of ways to deal with telemarketers.
  14. I have to admit, as a computer guy, I love it when the "you've got a problem with your computer" guys call. If I'm in a good mood, I'll play along. It amuses me when they tell me to hit the "window" key to bring up the "run" box...mainly because I run Linux at home. Mom always asks the scammers to tell her what the problem is so she can discuss it with her son, the IT guy. Those calls end quickly.
  15. 5. The Story Arc – The Middle is very important to the structure and flow of the story. Writers have a strict formula that they follow that is referred to as a Story Arc. A beginning that shows the world before it changes… an inciting incident that compels the hero to action. The middle or mid-point is very important because that is where the tables turn. The back half of the story is usually the Antagonist looking like he is going to win which leads to the Climax… and that’s the deciding battle between the hero and the villain and finally… “The End” which is usually a big graphic in a unique font that says “The End. It should be obvious to all that our General Manager Terry Ryan does not follow this Arc when building the Twins because our hero is still looking out his office window waiting for the inciting incident to force him into action. It should also be obvious to all that I do not follow this established arc when I write because that would require actual thought and this is how it ends… You forgot a very important part of the Story Arc: The big reveal. There's always a climactic "reveal" designed to explain who, what or where. For instance: "Luke, I am your father!"
  16. I seem to recall Hrbek saying that "He wanted to remain a Twin and if that costs him a few bucks, so be it" when he signed a new contract with the Twins. It always seemed to me, and Hrbek may have even said it, that Kent Hrbek was going to play the game as long as it was fun and when it stopped being fun, he was done.
  17. Arcia is a victim of poor management of the 40 man roster. I think Arcia was further victimized by poor lineup management by Paul Morlitor. I wish Arcia nothing but the best. Gad, could we be looking at Ortiz 2.0?
  18. I'm responsible for the next three game threads. So far, I've seen absolutely no reason to change anything I've written. And I wrote the openers a while ago.
  19. After living in MN for so many years, I laugh when people complain about the cold here. A cold night during the winter is 28 f. (roughly -2 Celsius for those who use those weird metric units, not that there's anything wrong with that..) I see people bundled up in winter coats suitable for the frozen north. Meanwhile, I'm wearing a sweatshirt. (yeah, I've become a cold weather wimp, relatively speaking)
  20. I thought it was more like "time some things were left in the past." Just like this season needs to be in the rear view mirror ASAP.
  21. This is a new one, a discussion about golf in a baseball thread.
