  1. Ah, cool, the Super Bowl is here. Which means baseball season is just around the corner. Which matters far more than the Super Bowl.
  2. Trends are all well and good when it comes to pitching but, in the end, on any given day, a pitcher may have better command of one pitch over another, which will change the percentages. Hitters should know the tendencies of a pitcher going in to the at bat, but that has to be coupled with observing what the pitcher is doing on any given day.
  3. That would be the MN Twins.
  4. meanwhile, and this was a couple of decades ago in MN, a guy I knew flooded his kitchen by letting his faucet drip. The kitchen sink drain froze...
  5. I work in the school system in CA. What I see on a daily basis tends to leave me jaded, though I know it's a small sample size. Still no excuse for such a generalization, however.
  6. Sorry about that, sort of stuck my keyboard in my mouth with that comment.
  7. The same Torii that got into a fight with Justin Morneau because Hunter thought Morneau lacked the appropriate work ethic? Torii Hunter is known for his work ethic. That's a given. Hunter played for a long time at a high level. He was also known as a clubhouse guy. I suspect Hunter just might have something to offer.
  8. Cuddyer made an astute observation when he pointed out that when he rehabbed he caught too much "III" and "are we there yet?" We have a younger generation that has absolutely no clue about working toward a goal because they've always got what they wanted when they wanted. We know the Twins have a problem moving players at the right pace through the minors, but, we also don't if there is a problem with an "I" before "team" attitude that is holding back players. It's very possible that's something that has been identified as a problem organization wide and these guys may be part of the answer.
  9. I was against a 3 year deal for someone like Castro simply due to the age factor. However, now that I think about it, signing Castro says the front office does not believe there is anything in the pipeline close to MLB ready. Signing Castro also tells me a lot about the Murphy trade. It's looking like an interesting off-season.
  10. Hey, I'm with you on signing great guys and all. But with how bad the pitching staff has been, it's hard for me to see a way to justify the money. I hate it when reality intrudes on what I'd like to have happen. And I was only half kidding when I suggested Drew Butera. I took a peek at his contract numbers and his last contract was around $1.5 million. I in no way shape or form think Drew Butera is a starting catcher. He might, however, make a decent platoon catcher with one of the rookies.
  11. Not sure that's what I said, but, your point does stand when it comes to veteran players. However, I am cautioning against signing a player like Castro as "the guy" that will set things right when the reality is that it's a fair amount of money for a catcher that will be working with a questionable pitching staff. If all you're after is a veteran guy that works well with pitchers, might as well sign Drew Butera.
  12. Who the Twins sign as catcher should reflect where they think they are as an organization. There is absolutely no reason to spend a lot of money on a catcher if the Twins are a couple of years away from competing. Castro is what, 29? if the Twins plan on being competitive in 2018, that means Castro will be pushing 31, an age when most players skills are on the decline. The best framing catcher in the world cannot help a staff that cannot get hitters out.
  13. Hmm, new pitching coach and Allen becomes the new pitching coordinator for the Twins organization? (if there is such a thing)* *sheesh, need reading comprehension lessons. Right there in the article "pitching coordinator" is mentioned.
  14. Any chance we can bring Tom Kelly back as bullpen manager?
  15. The 87 Twins were a raucous bunch that played with a chip on their shoulder and won it all. The 91 Twins were a professional team through and through, took care of business and won it all. Be nice to see one or the other show up in the near future with Twins teams.
  16. I think baseball is a much more nuanced game than football. Hitting the cut-off man, a player not properly covering a base, loafing while getting into position, all of these factors can affect the outcome of a baseball game. Football, at least the last time I watched, was about pass, pass again and then pass some more....with the hopes of getting a "completion" via a phantom "pass interference" call. I find football to be boring and predictable. Plus, the players and the on field celebrations for making a first down have become reminiscent of the touchdown celebrations of a decade ago. However, with baseball, I can safely say that even with the hundreds of games I've watched, there will always be something that happens that I've never seen before.
  17. My then wife and I went to the Metrodome for the welcome home party. The people at the Metrodome later told me (I did some contract work at the Metrodome for a while and got to know a few of the people who worked there) they were stunned at the crowd that showed up to welcome the Twins back from Detroit.
  18. Yeah, I had the same thought also. Too many people in the ear of Berrios can't have been a good thing. Bring in Mike Maddux!
  19. Careful, you'll be writing game threads next.
  20. Wow, I lose things all the time, due to my advancing age, but I've never lost a whole job before! Did you check under the bed? The closet? Trunk of the car? * *truly sorry to hear that. Hopefully, I got a faint grin.
  21. I thought this was how reservations are normally handled. Learn something new every day.
  22. I'm not sure if you're offering opportunity or punishment.....
  23. The image shown not only shows the ball basically in the palm of the hand, the glove is pointed at the center of the catcher versus the glove pointing at the knee of the catcher.
