Twins Get Austin Martin Back for the Stretch Run
MikeNC replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Fantastic! Now we have 3 leadoff hitters! I sure hope he regains peak form, this team can use the speed and small ball threat. -
Very good glove and pivot at 2B and .240 with 30 HRs, that's solid MLB production from a 2B. Or move to 1B if Lewis continues to underperform. Gotta keep Kreidler as very good D backup who at least has some competence at the plate (RE: See All of Fedko ABs, Most of Outman's=painful to watch). Move Keash to LF where his below-average arm has shorter throws, move now-the-stats-prove-his-dimnished-range Buxton to RF. CF is up for grabs, hopefully Jenkins hitting will come around, the skinny has it that Gonzo not D good enough, maybe ERod a shot? The Lee man is a key man a 3B. Peppa at SS. Caratini is under contract for 2027, but it sure would be nice to upgrade that bat. Jackson has a +arm, 29% throw out rate (vs 12% and 13% for Jeffers and Caratini). But until this year's small sample he's been dreadful vs MLB pitching so likely not the answer. Gomez is 22 for 22 as a closer. $22mm Lopez will be back, as will Ryan. There are about 10 legit starting candidates, some will wind up improving the bullpen. I am very optimistic about the 2027 team. I think there's a chance!

Just to be clear here, I watch every single Twins game. I thought Rocco was an idiot in his managing decisions. I love Shelty. I think he has done a brilliant job with the mess he was handed. If he had been the manager in 2025, the Twins would have won the division and we wouldn't be in any of the mess that the owner decided to create. I couldn't understand why it took them so long to ditch Rocco.

The Twins Are Giving Their All, But It's Not Enough

The Twins Are Giving Their All, But It's Not Enough
MikeNC replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Totally agree. The standard for MLB is 100% effort, every day. This is Professional grade, and the fans are paying real money and deserve some entertainment for their $$. At $780,000 to $21.75MM I think they all s/b trying real real hard. Or go back to bartending. Next! -

Yep. That's why we need Jenkins, even if he's only hitting a buck 50 for awhile. -
Joe Ryan Returns to Twins, Garrett Acton Optioned
MikeNC replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Optimistic for 2027 that is. We have at least 10 starter candidates, a couple of which will help rebuild the bullpen. Biggest hole will be trying to replace Jeffers bat, and overall get some HR production. -
Fellow Twins Fans, I'm Begging You ... Make Tom Pohlad Earn It
MikeNC commented on LastOnePicked's blog entry in Blog LastOnePicked
When was that one, right after the sweep of the Braves? I have voted in that one a number of times this year and never seen Twins owner approval that high. It's usually in the 10%-20% range. -
BREAKING: Twins to Call Up Top Prospect Walker Jenkins
MikeNC replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So . . was . ..Kirby. Buckle up!! -
Goodness no don't blame either of those guys! They play their hearts out! It is MANAGEMENT's job to assess player strengths and weaknesses and put them into position to succeed. I love the Keash! Finally the leadoff hitter we've been looking for so long. And sure we get frustrated when Buck is out, but that's becuase he's soooo damn good when healthy. He just plays all out, always has.

Emmanuel Rodriguez Has Waited Long Enough
MikeNC replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
There is a part of me that wonders if the Twins, (after somehow actually sensing the fans ballistic negative reactions to LY trade deadline debacle), decided something like "gee we don't want that again" and so were buyers this year, buying into the mirage of "contention". News Flash: The fans were not upset at the Twins for being sellers, we were/are upset at the Twins being STUPID sellers. -
I think that our farm system is absolutely working to fully develope hitters. Unfortunately, when you are trying to cobble together an effective lineup from Bargain Basement world, you get 1/4 to 1/2 the total skills sets. So you look to platoon hitting, and have late inning D specialists. I said it LY when it happened, and I'll say it for a long time: Trading away 800k/yr Varland was the dumbest Twins trade I can ever remember. (And I'm talking 2025 Varland, not 20/20 hindsight of NowSuperVarland).

What to add to all this chum? How about this: Let's pretent that YOU are the manager of the Twins. Your star player, (not kidding, when he is playing well is your best player, bar none) has said he is ready to play. So you play him and cross your fingers and hope he soon goes into ByronBeast mode! Because if he does, you are IN the playoffs, badda-bing! It is nonsensical to think that you can take a prospect, who's never even had a cup of coffee in MLB, and thrust him into that position and say "Ok, Rook, go carry this team to the playoffs". If Buck plays poorly that will be apparant and then you may indeed have a decision to make. But you gotta give it a full run first.

Another convert!! We're winning! Hey, I know, if just 17,000 of us get together and pitch in $100k we can buy the team! Who's with me??!!?? Gotta go now, trying to track down a baseball reportedly seen rolling towards the Wisconsin border . . .

If Jenkins fails at MLB so bad that he spends all of next year in AAA, then we will have officially decended into baseball Hell.

1. No. That stat is 7 of 40, 18%, 9th worst in MLB. LY was 11%, 3rd worst. He is decent as pitcher handler, framer, blocker and decent if somewhat inconsistent hitter. We hope he is the backup or at least a mentor to a youngster with talent. 2. No. His BA is some kind of miracle that is likely not sustainable, if the Twins thought so he'd be the DH. His career BA over a bunch of years is sub .200. 3. Yes. His option for next year is waaaay too much money. He will be missed but there are replacement candidates. 4. Yes, if they could actually get anything. He is in a terrible slump and even when doing well was strictly a platoon hitter vs RHP as well as a substandard defensive player. 5. When Buck is healthy he is amazing. Aye, there's the rub! His range is diminshing and it would make sense to move him to RF which, they say, will prolong his career. Bring on the Walker!! 6. Maybe, hard to say what Ober-wan will come up with. I can easily count at least 10 starter candidates for next spring. 7. We are really counting on him to come back and lead our young starters. Would be nice if he and Ryan would be 1&2 aces to take the pressure off. 8. Certainly a miracle. He is my current exhibit A that Maki is a genious! Reminds me of Rick Aguillera, didn't blow everybody away, but somehow got the job done. I miss DuranDuran. 9., Abel looked really really good before he got hurt, great stuff that's hard to hit. I'm not quite as sold on Festa but he will likely be in the mix next year. Zebby has had some great games, and some bad games, he needs to gain consistency to avoid being the swing guy. 10. I think they are done with Wally. Despite his rocket arm, teams run on him becasue 2/3 of throws are inaccurate. His SO% isn't getting better. No idea where Fedko really is, was a total deer in the headlights at the plate during his cup of coffee. Gonzo is gonna have to hit like a maniac because he's not quite as good at D, however, he is out of options and so may get a now or never shot. 11. Why in the world is a LHB who is hitting .196 vs RHP still on the roster!!!!!

I love the kid! Am just as excited as when Lewis came up. Newsflash: very very few step onto the MLB field and instantly have star skills at all facets of play. A few growing pains comes with the territory. But OMG say can you see the potential!!! Unlike some other recent rookies/acquisitions he does not look like a deer in the headlights at the plate. The DuranDuran at bat being a very obvious example: that at bat looked like something you'd see from Jeffers, or Clemens, or Lee. I'm a pepper!! Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?!

Wow. What remarkable resiliency this team shows! After the Philly debacle I was hoping they'd win 1 vs the MLB elite Braves. So glad I didn't bet the farm against the sweep! But don't be too upset with comments about calling a bush play for what it is. That is just truth. This is MLB and it's ok to expect MLB performance and to call it out when it isn't. Bring up the new guys because we might upgrade to complete ballplayers who can hit AND play defense? Like we used to, remember? Look at our new SS! I rest my case.

I first noticed in 2023 that the Twins were successfully revamping castoff pitchers. This was new, for so long Twins were good hit, no pitch team-except for 2 great starters (twice) that won them WS. Sure enough Pete Maki joined the team in summer of 2022. I think the guy is a pitching genius.

On a team LY that suddenly had ALL LH OF and two more such top prospects in AAA it made no sense whatsoever to pick up The Rodent. I believe he was just a throw in they wanted to get rid of. He has often looked competely lost at the plate. I'd rather see one of our prospects learning that way than a guy who has no demostrated upside.
