  1. Mid-West Player of the Week Follow this link to Seth's summary, comment #6 http://twinsdaily.com/topic/25599-2017-twins-minor-league-awards/
  2. Jermaine Palacios: SS Cedar Rapids Kernels Born: July 19, 1996 Barquisimeto Venezuela Signed: International Free Agent in 2013 out of Venezuela Palacios played in the DSL in 2014 after signing as 17 year old international free agent. His signing bonus is a mystery waiting to be solved. Palacios Split 2015 between the GCL Twins and Elizabethton. He played in 26 and 31 games respectively hitting a combined 370/398/540 for a 939 OPS. He had 23 doubles, 4 triples, 3 home runs, and 9 stolen bases in 235 at bats. His bat opened eyes early pushing him up prospect charts rapidly but 16 errors in Elizabethton (20 combined on the season) also left a lot of people concerned about his ability to stay at short. He finished the year with a 918 FPCT. In 2016 Palacios was a little snake bitten. He began the year slowly in CR but just when his bat picked up and just as his numbers began to rise, he went on the DL and lost much of the rest of the season. He finished 222/276/287 with a 564 OPS in 261 at bats. His FPCT rose to 952 on 14 errors so while his bat was disappointing, hope grew that the glove might come around. 2017 has been a year to redeem himself at the same level and Palacios is doing just that so far. In his first 68 at bats, he has hit 397/438/574 with a 1012 OPS. This year he has two errors with a FPCT of 972. He has already tied last years 3 triples and 3 home runs. It is early but if he can keep up this pace, I would predict a mid-season promotion to the Miracle right after his appearance in the Midwest league all star game.
  3. I am going to adopt Palacios as well because he needs to be adopted.
  4. I looked up the MLB P/PA leaderboard for last year. If he maintained that at the MLB level, he would be around top 20%.
  5. 340/365/400 with 3 doubles. 6 of his last 10 games he had multi hit games. Vielma has been quite the contact guy as he has only walked once this year and has 6 strike outs in 50 at bats. That made me wonder about pitches per plate appearances so I looked it up. he's taking and he is averaging 3.31 P/PA
  6. Haley is on the 10 day DL with shoulder tendenitis
  7. While 6 strikeouts in 2.2 innings is a nice stat, 5 hits and 3 walks will get you sent down. From what I've seen, Mejia has some nasty stuff but needs to work on a few things as well. I believe he will be back.
  8. Nice! Welcome aboard DFTGGuy.
  9. Instead of negatively criticizing someone's post for what it lacks, how about adding to it to improve the discussion? That is what I was hoping for. More numbers discussion instead of basing things off what we were hoping people would develop into. I wasn't trying to and did not say who should be recalled, but 3 of the 7 previously mentioned guys have been in less than half the at bats. That was the biggest number I saw yet they are being discussed for recall. I do not believe management will be looking at guys they are playing less than half the time this early in the season. As for triple slash, they do show something but as you said not the whole picture. Triple slash is used all the time on TD and OPS is highly emphasized. If you feel there are better numbers that show a better picture, feel free to add them. Please do actually. That is what I hoped someone would do.
  10. Park has appeared in 4 games and 16 at bats. He's not coming up yet Garver has 22 at bats in 8 games. He's not coming up either. Schuck 234/308/404 712 OPS (47 at bats) Vargas 227/346/432 778 OPS (44 at bats) Murphy 136/240/182 422 OPS (22 at bats) Hague 345/419/436 856 OPS (55 at bats) Palka 296/345/611 956 OPS (54 at bats) Numbers...
  11. Corcino, Palacios, and Perez I believe are all available in the AAP thread as well!
  12. His big concern last year was K%. He has 14 strike outs to 4 walks in 50 plate appearances according to baseball reference which is 28%. That is down from 33% last year (if my Math is correct).
  13. April 6, 2017 Rochester Red Wings placed RHP Jake Reed on the 7-day disabled list. Right shoulder strain.
  14. You are making way too much sense...
  15. With my scenario, you have 3 open spots on the 40. Not a big deal to add Park back on the 40 man for a call up. Both of them are above .800 OPS at Rochester (And so is Paulsen) so either is fine. It is fair to point out that Vargas has double the at bats, I just think long term, Park will pan out and I have lost confidence in Vargas ever panning out.
  16. One big move... Call up Palka, Park and Berrios Gibson moves to the Pen Cut Breslow, Tonkin, and Dan San
  17. And before the inning is even over, DanSan and Tonkin are sent down with Palka and Park coming up...
  18. Holy wow... DanSan for Rosario... Genius!
  19. Vielma has a triple slash 297/333/351 through 10 games and 37 plate appearances. He has two doubles which is the full measure of his power so far this year. He has 1 walk with 5 strike outs. Defensively, he has 42/43 innings at SS/2B this year with one error at each position.
  20. How many games have we played this year? Oh, week three? Ok, deep breaths...
  21. I believe the philosophy of throwing strikes to get ahead in the count and then winning the at bat whether by strike out or bad contact is and should be every pitchers goal. I think the problem is more that the fans perception of "pitch to contact" has been sullied by pitchers that did not have enough talent to be top end MLB pitchers, bad defense, and losing records. The best players and the best teams in any sport examine the opponent and use the best strategy for that guy. Danny Santana up to bat? Make him hit into a ground ball double play. Big Papi? Maybe we will pitch around him...
  22. Question thoroughly answered, thank you!
  23. Where is he? I would think he would have made an appearance by now if he's healthy. Anyone know something I missed?
  24. 3 games, no holds, 1 save, 8 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 4.50 ERA, 2 HRs, 8 Ks, no walks, 1.00 WHIP, .250 BAA. Despite being a rule V, he doesn't appear too buried in the bullpen.
  25. Mejia has made two appearances pitching 6 2/3 innings. He has allowed 4 runs, 3 earned for a 4.05 ERA. The opposing teams batting average Is a reasonable .250 but he has allowed 5 walks and 6 hits for a 1.65 WHIP, an opposing OPS of .845 and a short leash with Molitor. His next scheduled start is Wednesday.
