  1. Sessions was just making the morning news rounds defending Trump's statement. Somehow Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III with his less than stellar history in race relations (and yet he is AG) making a statement defending your white supremacy stance rings a little hollow. Trump's tweets today so far are completely avoiding Charlottesville and the fact that people are upset with his tepid, equivocal statement, but he can rant about obstructionist Democrats and how he can fix things.
  2. I alaways thought the media was way too silent on what Steven Bannon stood for when he joined Trump's campaign. This man is the alt-right and he is in Trump's inner circle. Two of Trump's three tweets today are retweets of someone saying how great he is an how is better than Obama. His third retweet was a simple statement about the DOJ opening a civil rights investigation. Even with everything going on - Trump is most concerned about himself being viewed as the greatest ruler ever.
  3. I agree with Vanimal's original points, but I also like this statement above. The NFL as an organization bothers me in how they try to steam roll everything and Goodell acting like he is some omniscient leader who should never be questioned or defied. It really bothered me how they hardballed Minneapolis into giving them a tax exemption in order to host the Super Bowl (not that they could not have simply said -forget it). Everything is about milking out every penny they can, and then pretending they care when something goes wrong. Their non-profit status is a whole other story. I do still watch the Vikings partly out of habit and family tradition. It does get harder with the health concerns for the players, the greed and hubris of the organization, and them games not being as enjoyable to watch.
  4. Yes, I don't see him playing anywhere else if a deal does not get made. I saw a post that somewhere implied he really did not care (the no heart argument), but I think it means a lot to him to be a Twin, and while he might not be doing what some people want him to be doing, I think his heart is still in the game and with the team. He seems to enjoy being on the field. If he does continue, it will be even more part time, so I don't think he will necessarily be blocking any talent, and it won't be a huge financial burden with whatever the new contract price will be. While he is not the vocal leader that people want, I suspect he is still a pretty good example in the locker room (I am a homer that maybe foolishly gives him the benefit of the doubt of having a good work ethic, gets along with teammates etc) . I suspect he will be around one or two more years. That said, it would not shock me if next year was it due to a combination a deal not working out, his body telling him it is time to quit (who knows how his legs, knees, back etc. really are due to the years of catching), or his daughters reaching the age where he wants to see more of their activities.
  5. Not exactly Trump related, but you could argue his rhetoric has made people more comfortable attending a white power rally. This was at the U of VA last night (not the people from the town). They were shouting Blood and Soil which has some history in Nazi Germany. It is the kick-off to a alt-white rally scheduled today. They are protesting the taking down of a Civil War Monument. I am sure Trump will have a thoughtful statement about this soon -- speaking out against racist and anti-semantic slogans. Or, one of the alt-right protesters will get hurt in a confrontation and his statement will be how violet the left is and how they are trying to suppress free speech.
  6. Nice series.... It helps that the division is pretty mediocre this year. Things could remain intersting into September.
  7. Even though he has not caught for awhile, I suppose the ten years crouching behind the plate has helped the aging process for the legs. I remember playing kickball in my mid-30s after not having played kickball or softball for a few years. I was running regularly at the time, so it is not like I was sedentary, but it was a rude awakening at how much more difficult the base running was. I remember Souhan really did not like Slowey - and had some comments (I think early tweets) that were really personal and mean-girl that seemed unprofessional even if Slowey was the biggest jerk on the team. Not that you can really judge a person by the fact that Souhan doesn't like you.... I have somewhat low standards and fall back on the bandwagon fairly easily, but I will be happy if they finish the season at or about 500.
  8. I am not sure he is doing a good job of unwinding and relaxing over his vacation. I heard the folders discussed on the radio this morning. Supposedly, if they don't find enough they are supposed to include pictures where he looks good -- insert easy joke here.... Meanwhile, on a more serious note, he is the worst possible person to be in his position with all that is going on world-wide. His advisers are Fox & Friends and maybe Game of Thrones.
  9. I am still waiting for him to make some sort of statement of the Marine deaths off of Australia and the attack at the Islamic center in Bloomington. They must not be discussing these things on Fox and Friends, Ah - he just sent another set of tweets, he must have finished his round of golf. Good to know he is busy prepping for his big meeting on the opioid crisis...
  10. I heard someone reading this on the radio this morning, and sadly while I thought it was probably a satire, I was not 100% sure until the person clarified that it was. This is not that far from something which he actually would say - which is a bit scary and "sad!".
  11. I guess the governor of WVa is going to announce at Trump's rally tonight that he is switching parties to the GOP (the GOP really has a strong hold on the governorships). He actually was a Republican until 2015, so I am guessing he was Democrat in name only from 2015 to 2017. I should not stereotype, but looking at his picture and knowing he is from WVa, I would have guessed he was Republican in the first place. http://mediad.publicbroadcasting.net/p/wvpn/files/styles/medium/public/201707/JusticeFairmont14.jpg
  12. It is like Trump was created by taking Ed Bundy, Archie Bunker,Gilligan,Frank Burns and Barney Fife and blending them into one person, then lowered his IQ by an additional 75 points. I can only imagine how much foaming at the mouth is going to be occurring at the West Virginia rally tonight.
  13. I guess this means Golf Digest is also fake news -- or it might mean Trump is lying in his tweet, which seems unlikely. Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 19m19 minutes ago I love the White House, one of the most beautiful buildings (homes) I have ever seen. But Fake News said I called it a dump - TOTALLY UNTRUE Think of all the predictions people were making in September and even October 2016.
  14. Easy for someone to say when he is not the leader of their country....
  15. I agree about Murkowski - red state and had some implied threats of losing Federal funding, but she held her own. Then there was Lindsey, who admitted the bill was bad and only voted for it on hopes it would fail down the line. It will be interesting in a lord of the flies sort of way how Trump reacts as he does not seem to care who the person is when he is slighted. The more things go against him the more violet his rhetoric seems to get and the less he seems to care. He is really going to keep trying to amp up the fear. From a speech to Long Island police today: “And when you see these towns, and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon—you just see them thrown in, rough,” he said. “I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice.’ Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head—the way you put the hand over, like don’t hit their head, and they’ve just killed somebody. Don’t hit their head. I said, ‘You can take the hand away, okay?'” The police probably did not win PR points when they roared with laughter and approval. I am guessing Trump was not thinking about Freddie Gray when he made the statement.
  16. This would be comedy gold if it were not real life - the Senate is just seeing the skinny repeal now - it was largely written over lunch today - and are going to vote on it tonight. Sounds like it might pass, largely ushering out the pre-existing condition protection etc. People like Lindsey Graham are trying to get guarantees from Ryan that it won't pass the conciliation process with the house, because they don't really want it to become law, because they know how bad it is, but do not have enough of a spine to vote against it. So this horrible bill might go to the next step, because no one can admit they never came up with an alternative and want to keep the ruse going because they have been talking about repealing this law for 7 years, while not really doing anything about it but posture and bluster. This entire week has been some sort of comedy of errors of a rather tragic nature.
  17. Now we just need whatever divine or cosmic source that created him to apologize and fix its mistake.
  18. They are now occasionally going to add some fan letters as part of the press conferences. I am sure the media appreciated being read the answers to Pickle's thoughtful questions. I am not sure you could make this stuff up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AxxWnjhWQQ Oh - then also in the last 24 hours, transgender statement/policy as an impulse, telling stories of illegal immigrants dicing young women, attacking even his most loyal cabinet members, musing about Mt. Rushmore, being second only to Lincoln in presidential demeanor. Even for him, he seems to be piling on extra crazy lately. At least nine year old Pickle seems to be happy.
  19. Funny -- in more of a sad, tragic way -- I was thinking about finding that clip when I made my post.
  20. Sigh....how long before he somehow incorporates his name into the organization. Nice to know there is no event that he cannot be petty against his enemies and make it all about himself. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/07/24/speaking-boy-scouts-trump-attacks-media-and-demands-obamacare-repeal/506688001/ Highlights included encouraging the kids to boo Obama Talking about healthcare including threatening to fire someone Talking about his great victory and implying if you are successful you can buy a yacht and do "interesting" things on it.
  21. I don't think Nixon was indicted before Ford pardoned him. At the very least he had not been convicted. Trump seems very centered and grounded this morning, dispensing words of wisdom that are reassuring. Truly the right leader for a troubled times. Plus, his party has the morals and conviction to take any necessary steps in putting the countries needs above their own.
  22. If I remember correctly, at Twinsfest this year, he had Seth on for about 30 seconds when some player showed up and Seth was suddenly gone. I will never forgive him for robbing us of that interview. He does have a good rapport with these guys.
  23. That would make it not only an appropriate victory dinner, but it would also then be heart healthy.
  24. It sounds like it was a bone-headed move by the runner, but the team is so much better defensively this year. Not that that has not been said 100 times already, but it is fun to watch them on the field this year not just at bat.
