  1. Gerrit Cole's contract is fully guaranteed. He could never pitch another inning and still get the full amount.
  2. Why are the Rockies trading Gray for Sano? If they don't think they can compete this year, they'll want guys with 6+ years of control. If they think they can compete, they aren't trading Gray.
  3. I have about 95% confidence that Sano will outperform Cron over the next 2 seasons, which is how long Sano is under team control. So, yes.
  4. 3.1 bWAR for $6.25M (Sano) seems like a better value than 1.2 bWAR for $6.1M (Cron) to me.
  5. That also wouldn't be a ringing endorsement of the Gophers program.
  6. I'm as disappointed as anyone in the offseason so far, but there were 2 aces available in free agency, and it wasn't realistic to expect the Twins to be in on either of them.
  7. I'm just saying, that's what treading water looks like. I have no problem with someone who enjoys the regular season ride, and doesn't worry about the postseason. That's fine, I know many feel that way. That ain't me though. To me the ONLY purpose of the regular season is seeding for the games that matter. To me zero postseason wins is the exact same outcome whether it came after 101 or 41 regular season wins. Again, not saying my view is better or right, but that's how I feel.
  8. Does anyone know how contracts work for the assistant coaches? Is the bowl season technically in next year's contract period? I'm confused on how our OC is able to leave on a lateral move before the Bowl game.
  9. Didn't you want them to sign Wheeler?
  10. Not to nitpick too much, but Alcala made his Twins debut last season.
  11. He can't simultaneously be thankful for his time here, AND be ready to move on? Why not? I've said the same thing to employers when I've moved on, and meant it, even while being ready to move on. He turned down their attempts to negotiate an extension.
  12. But it WAS reported that they offered him an extension, and they were rebuffed. Amounts were never leaked, but he signed for such a reasonable amount with ARI that I can't imagine even this FO could have offered much less. I can imagine they might have only been willing to go two years, and perhaps that was the sticking point.
  13. Why limit your options though? We can always fall back on those guys if the FA's don't pan out. But if those guys are plan A, then you're stuck until the trade deadline if they fail. And that's assuming the FO isn't as afraid of deadline trade prices as they are of FA prices.
  14. Perhaps he just didn't want to stay here. I can't imagine the Twins offer could have been much less than that very reasonable amount. I remember a snowy game in April one year where Escobar was dressed for a 10 day trek across Antarctica. Perhaps he wanted to go somewhere warm, and it wasn't about the money.
  15. If they tried to sign Ryu, then it's clear they just aren't willing to play in that end of the pool, as IMO the price tag ended up being very reasonable.
  16. I think he means because Dozier won a ring, not because he's been good since.
  17. Escobar was a free agent, and declined the team's attempts at an extension. The alternative of trading him wasn't to keep him, it was letting him walk for nothing.
  18. They're linked in the OP. Hint: Daniel Palka was our projected DH for this year.
  19. Ok, but then they aren't serious about acquiring impact arms. Someone is always going to be willing to go that 4th or 5th year, it's a tax on getting them in years 1 and 2. Yes, going 4 years for a guy like Ryu is a risk. But inaction is also a risk. If they want impact pitchers via trade, they'll also have to "overpay" on that route. At some point you have to be willing to eat that extra year at the end of the contract, or include a better prospect, or whatever it takes. You won't find any posts of me asking them to make unreasonable signings or trades. But I don't think 4/80 for Ryu is at all unreasonable.
  20. Do you have any evidence that the Twins would have needed to outbid the Jays by 40 million in order to get Ryu?
  21. Polanco already signed an extension last year.
  22. Where are you seeing any criticism of Arraez in this article or thread of comments?
  23. MLB Pipeline disagrees with you. They have Kay/Woods with the exact same FV as Thorpe/Duran. Fangraphs actually had Kay/Woods with a slightly higher FV. I'll update when Fangraphs updates their Blue Jay rankings for 2020. As for Kluber, you can't possibly know that they traded him at his lowest point. If he's cooked, as I believe he might be, then he'd have negative value at the deadline, and the Indians would need to include a prospect just to dump his salary.
