  1. They can work out a trade with Miami if they want to send him to the minors.
  2. I don't disagree with any of that. I'm not trying to argue if it was the right selection or not, or even why they took him. I'm simply suggesting that, IMO, not one thing has changed since his selection. And therefore, whatever their plan for him was shortly after the draft, it's unlikely that plan has changed at all in the months since. True, it's unlikely that they specifically targeted him before the draft (although entirely possible). But it's also unlikely that they decided to take him without some kind of plan for him. And I don't believe they took him in reaction to losing Burdi either. They had already cleared Burdi's spot before the draft. Keeping both, or neither, were options. I also don't believe that Reed, Rodney, and Duke were impulse buys that changed whatever plan Kinley fit into. Sure, they may not have known that they'd get those specific players. But I think it's likely that their plan included three guys for those roles. And I don't think Kinley was pegged for any of those three roles, so I fail to see, outside of an injury or poor throwing session that we're not aware of, what could have changed since shortly after the draft that would change how Kinley fit into their plans.
  3. I'm not saying he'll make the roster. None of us know what their plan was when they took him. What I do know, and what I'm trying to say, is that they had a plan, and i don't think anything has changed to alter that plan. If the plan is that he doesn't make the roster, then that was always the plan. These guys are at the top of their profession. They don't just randomly acqire guys without some kind of plan.
  4. But why would a player agree to that, when he knows he can just accept a guaranteed contract from a different team? That's the reason you don't, and never will see those types of contract become widespread. Any team making an offer like that knows they have no chance, because another team will just guarantee the same contract.
  5. But you said it didn't pan out. I don't think their plan for him (whatever it is) has changed since draft day. It's not like they weren't planning on signing guys when they drafted Kinley. Obviously we didn't know the names then, but I'd guess they planned on signing guys x,y, and z for roles x,y, and z before they drafted Kinley, so I just don't see what would have changed to make them change whatever they had planned for Kinley.
  6. What would they have seen from him since the draft to make them feel this way? Have they even watched him throw since the draft? Doubt it.
  7. He's already got 125 innings in AA. I'm guessing the FO expects him to be called up to the majors by then.
  8. They only need to stay down for about 3 weeks to get an extra year of service time. You might be thinking of the Super 2 cutoff, which saves a team money, it doesn't extend team control.
  9. You have to be inducted to be in. Induction does not just mean ceremony. Induction is the process of officially adding an electee to the hall. He's not in the Twins HOF.
  10. According to mlb.com, he's not. And according to twinstrivia.com, he was elected, but not inducted, and is not a member of the Twins HOF. Fox Sports and Strib says the same. Twinkie Town says this: Update: It's been confirmed that it's not just the ceremony, it's also his actual placement in the Twins Hall of Fame. Do you have a link or source for anything that says he's actually in?
  11. Why does it work just fine in football, but isn't viable in baseball?
  12. He combined for a 3.90 FIP over 373 innings across '14 and '15. He definitely teased us a few times over those two seasons.
  13. I'm not sure they'd have him pitch in Rochester in April if he's rehabbing. Ft. Myers or Chattanooga would be more likely.
  14. I guess it boils down to if a person thinks durability is an attribute, or just random luck. I feel it's an attribute, no different than a 95 mph fastball. Not everyone is capable of staying healthy, and I think Burdi is one of those guys. No loss, IMO.
  15. I'm glad they are trying to improve the bullpen. But, I'll believe that it's crowded when I see it on the field. For now, all of these guys, except Reed, have question marks. Including Hildy.
  16. That would be his 2nd best season, by a mile, at age 34. Aside from a steroid guy, has that ever happened? Just not realistic, IMO.
  17. Why do you say that if a team trades for Cole, they are immediately out on Darvish? You can never have too much pitching, and Cole is cost controlled. No reason, in my mind, that a team couldn't try to get both.
  18. I think Darvish says no to that. I don't think he'll sign less than 6 years guaranteed, and I can't see him agreeing to a vesting option that only pays $10 million.
  19. Very excited to follow Pearson. I predict we'll look back in a few years and be talking about the steal we got.
  20. Many dismiss it, but the poor baserunning is a concern for me. Hopefully the coaching staff can work with him on that this year.
  21. But can you replace them for equal salary as they make now? I believe that's league minimum (roughly) for both. Likely not. This article regards value, not just production.
  22. Did I miss something? Did baseball add a franchise tag? That's the second time I've heard it mentioned regarding Dozier.
